Dog Obedience Trial  

Pre - Novice

  • Heel On Lead
    Dog and handler are to work as a team. Handlers will not be penalized for encouragement or extra commands.

    Commands and Exercises : Forward – Right turn – Left turn – About turn – Halt – Stand – Figure Eight – Lead Out – Finished. Order from the Judges and Calling Stewards may be given in any sequence and repeated.
       

  • Stand Stay
    The dog is to stand steadily beside the handler on a loose lead until the completion of the exercise and not show undue resentment or shyness.
     
    Commands and Exercises : Forward – Stand your dog – Exercise finished.
     

  • Recall
    The dog is to sit where left, at the end of a 2 metre lead and promptly obey the handler's command to come and sit in front of the handler.

Commands and Exercises :Forward – Halt – Leave your dog – About turn – Call your dog – Finish – Exercise finished.

  • Sit Stay (30 Seconds)
    The dog is to stay off the lead of ½ minute in the sit position until the completion of the exercise.

Commands and Exercises : Leave your dogs – About turn – Halt – Return to your dogs – Exercise Finished.

  • Down Stay (One Minute)
    The dog is to stay off the lead for 1 minute in the down position until the completion of the exercise.

Commands and Exercises : Down your dogs – Leave your dogs – About turn – Halt – Return to your dogs – Exercise finished.
 

Novice

  • Heel On Lead
    The dog and handler are to work as a team. Handlers will not be penalized for encouragement or extra commands.

Commands and Exercises : Forward – Right turn – Left turn – About turn – Fast pace – Slow pace – Normal pace – Halt – Down – Stand – Figure Eight – Lead out – Finished. These orders may be given in any sequence and repeated.

  • Heel Free
    The dog and handler are to work as a team without the use of a lead. Handlers will not be penalized for encouragement or extra commands.

Commands and Exercises : Forward – Right turn – Left turn – About turn – Fast pace – Slow pace – Halt – Down – Stand – Figure Eight – Lead out – Exercise finished. These orders may be given in any sequence and repeated.

  • Stand Stay
