Re: [icezcream] Latest News From SPCA by Miss Pau-Lynn! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hai all, I came to know about the whereabout of SPCA from this forum. Since then, I had visited the place 5 times within the last 3 weeks. Being a visitor myself, this is what I observed.

In SPCA, it really shows from their faces the hard work, the stress and the commitment of the workers/volunteers who dedicates their work for the animals. However, on the other hand, visitors are usually first timer who goes there to look for something, may it be cheaper pet than pet shop or specific breed/characteristic etc. Thus a mismatch of perception arises. But in my opinion, if saving the animals life is our main concern, we therefore must take the time to match every visitor's expectation because every visitor is a potential adopter.

Frankly, for the first two visits, nobody asked me anything at all even though I was there for a hour. Of course I did asked for some information, but looking at the tired faces around me, I decided to learn quetly. I learn by observing and reading the notices at the board and eventually adopted a kitten last saturday. And I plan to adopt a puppy after Chinese New Year.

I think the public generally knows SPCA is an animal shelter, however PR is equally important in moderating the expectation as some visitors are animal lovers, some are curious lookers and some just want a bargain. Thats life.

They are pretty short handed and the volunteers are mostly helping out with cleaning the cages and searching for ticks etc. And I agree that a first time visitor there will be quite lostWink But then again, not having someone tailing you around gives you the space to check out the dogs/cats at your pace. True also. And imagine that you are busy with the dog, and there is this guy comes along and asking you where's the toiletLaugh Actually, I was asked last weekend coz I shown one family where is the cat's section. Tongue

But, seriously...maybe a FAQ notice board will be helpfull example: Question: Do SPCA has pure breed? Answer: Pls note SPCA is not a pet shop, but we do have some every now and then.

Can someone tells me how to be a volunteer and how many hours you need to serve or rules & regulations of being a volunteer?

Hey there, I’m definitely an animal lover/curious looker/bargain hunter all wrapped in one.

But, Henry honey….using basic common sense by asking or expecting the appropriate thing at the
appropriate place...well..THAT, is also life.

Nm, I've checked out "Distemper", now i understand why Paco has to be PTS. Just tht somethings are so unfair sometimes. Someone (even if it's just a dog to others) tht has suffered so much cant get another chance in the end. Do you thing he'd get a better chance where he's going, if he's going somewhere after PTS? Breaks hearts

Those who were wondering about distemper like me u can check out this link: http://www.animalhealthchannel.com/distemper/

and understand tht Paco must be PTS to put an end to own suffering and good of others.

Hi Gees,

Thanks for sharing the information about Distemper. In fact, i also wanted to ask what is this virus about...

Yes, when the dog is arranged to PTS, then the dog is pity. But, if we tried to think at the other way, actually it is good for the dog if he was suffering from any serious illness.

I hope Paco could have a better next and new life.

Hi Shlee,

I agree with u, if an animal is suffering from a illness should be put2sleep to end further suffering. Just tht i think its a pity tht most animals domesticated by humans do not get to experience our love but instead our unkindness, frankly put our cruelness. Felt so sad for Paco and others like the little fella

I already posted my message in the Missing/Stolen Dog forum. I can email my dog's pic to u if u r willing to keep an eye for my dog too. It happened about one month ago, from my house at Bandar Puchong Jaya. She is stolen, not walk away by herself. She is a mixed terrier, very small in size, golden brown colour, short and curly hair. She is only 11 months old now. I really miss her so much...it's really heart broken when losing her...sob sob...Frown

She might be resold to anywhere now. So, just wish somebody can come accross her and call me immediately. This is my Xmas and New Year Wish...

Hi Shlee, It's okay.I'm cool with that.Did u see an Orange head westerner volunteering around SPCA? He's my friend. He volunteer together and he was at the court case too.Not sure whether u manage to have a chat with him as he's really a darling. So what do u think of SPCA when u got there on sunday?I wanted to go on sunday as well but since i went on sunday and i'll be going on monday i thought i might as well take a day off as i was really really tired and needed a break.

hi henry,
thanks for your interest in SPCA and all.Not sure whether i've seen u in SPCA since u mentioned that u visited that place 5 times within the last 3 weeks.I've probably met u as i've been volunteering almost every day.Except on weekends though.Day off.

Oh gosh, now i'm not sure whether i was the one who talked to you as usually whenever i see visitors coming in, the first thing i do is i introduce myself as a volunteer and ask them whether they want me to show them around first or that i'll tell them to walk around have a look on their own and should they need me they can find me.Because some visitors are quite shy whenever i approach and offer them that's why for me i'll let them walk on their own first and then only i'll give them advises and all.Since u're interested do let me know when u plan to drop by SPCA i'll be more than glad to show u around :)

Re: [henry] Latest News From SPCA by Miss Pau-Lynn! [In reply to] Can't Post

hiya,
To be a volunteer, just hop into the office and let Chelvy the front desk cutey lady that u want to volunteer and tell her what should and should u not do.The reason i say is because (sorry to offend true malaysians but..) most malaysian volunteers who are first timers come in and volunteer, which is a good thing because they aren't much malaysian volunteers, but the problem is that when they volunteer they aren't prepared (one lady came in first time wearing heels and asked me to give her my SPORT SHOES!! CRAZY) and another one smarty pants whilst cleaning the cage it's either we tied them or put them in an empty cage (for pups). That smarty pants let the dog run out amok and we experienced ones were running like mad folks chasing after the dog! And the worst part? He gave us that smug look as if he was doing the right thing. And when we sort of lectured him on how to clean the cage and so on he bombed us striaght to the face"u think u guys are some hot shot?Volunteer more than me doesn't mean that u have the right to sound me" WHAT A PISSER off he was.

As for the volunteering hours, u can volunteer for 5 minutes till one whole day. It depends on how long u can manage to work there as it's not an easy task. One minute u're in B kennel another minute u're wnated by the workers to wash the floors. No rules or regulations..maybe one : U've gotta be a true animal lover and don't mind touching their eliminations. :)
Cheers.

Re: [paulynn] Results from Court Case. [In reply to] Can't Post

Guys and girls who have been following this thread since the first time i open, this is the result of the court case.We lost. the 15 dogs will be given back to the owner who's surprisingly a lady.eventhough she has to pay SPCA 4.5 k for the expenses and all , the spca staffs are more concern about the dogs than the money that they'll be receiving. But fret not, our darling animal inspector Sabrina will be peeping tom from time to time to check on them.I can't tell much now as my sis wants to use the pc but this is the result of the court case. For those who read Sin Chew, check out wednesday newspaper. It's covered as sin chew reporters were interviewing sabrina after the court case.

Re: [paulynn] Results from Court Case. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Paulynn,

I did read the newspapers and already knew the result. But, still surprisingly to hear that all the dogs will be given back to the owner!!!!! I dun think the owner will treat the dogs good. She might even abuse them more, becoz she needs to pay RM4.5K becoz of the dogs. Thus, she might be angry at the dogs now. Besides that, if she is a dog lover, she won't treat the dogs like this before. So, how can we return the dogs to her?????

One more question here, how can a lady to own more than 2 dogs? What is she doing? How can the court allow her to own so many dogs together?

I'm just pity all those poor doggie. I think they are reluctant to go back too. See, they are so scared of human now, i think they will be very scared when they are being returned to the same place, where they have been seriously abused last time. Maybe, they have just built up their confidence in SPCA here, but now they have to be returned back! I dun think it is a right choice for them. They should be kept in SPCA and adopted by a new loving master.

Oh sorry...i didn't manage to drop by at SPCA on last Sunday. I was not feeling well after taking bath for my 4 dogs. Maybe the weather on that day was too hot. Somemore, my bf reached my house was already 3:30pm. So, i dun think i can reach SPCA before it close. I heard SPCA will only open until 4pm, right?

I can't go to SPCA this weekend also. Will be busy for something else. But will try to drop by for next weekend. Anyway, i did visit SPCA about 3 times before (few months ago). I find that SPCA is a good shelter for animal and a lot of volunteer there, including some western people. Please keep the good work. Hopefully, one day later, i can settle my transportation problem, so i can join u guys as another volunteer.

Dang!!! How the hell could they win the case? Anyway, the only assurance is that the SPCA will be doing spotchecks on them. I don't know about you but I have this gut feeling that the dogs that are returned are going to suffer even more. Unsure

Sigh....

Thanks for the update, Paulynn.
