hi,

ooh...English Mastiff is the largest among the mastiff family. Your avatar is a bit dark...cant really see clearly. Hav u seen the parents when u bought him?

wow...very clever and smart dog u hav...keep it up man. Yup, I train my danes too. The female(crystal) is very obedient and I usaully walk her w/o leash but the male(raven) is a bit naughty. My avatar is the naughty raven...he is only 10 months old.

do u hav cert for for mastiff?? just curious to know..

Just wondering is there any mastiff breeder around?wat i mean is English Mastiff....I may wanna buy another mastiff in the future..

So far I noticed mastiff is a clever and obedient creature especially after u had shown to him ur ownership...they could be stubborn sometimes. As for mine, after 8 mths with me she is really very obedient and a good guard dog at nite....

How old id your BM? How does it react to strangers who enter the hse? Is there anything that causes him to act more aggressive towards strangers when in the hse?

Ooh really , my BM is a about 4-5 years I guest. It was given to me by my friend who have shifted to an apartment. The BM is with me about a year. Very very friendly with stranger when only i'm around. If he's a lone , he's quite wild. First thing is get the smell of the person and if he doesnt recognise, thats it...he goes up..and he dont like other male dogs, with females he is ok. He's like small children very much. There is a big filed near my house which is surrounded with fences and gates, there's where I play with him mostly every evening.I have one problem with him, all the time there is lots of eye dirt although i clean it everyday, u have any idea why is it such away.Is it because of the weather?

So how's ur BM, tell me about ur's? It's a she or he?Friendly?

Re: [sk472001] MASTIFF!! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,Smile

I'm not sure abt the eye discharge..mine had it for a while. It was green. I washed his eyes with eyemo every day, twice a day.One in the morning, once at night. After abt a week,no more. Haven't happened since. Think there's a section in the forum abt that.

My BM's not exactly as friendly as urs. I mean,if ppl came up to us,he wouldn't wag his tail at all. He'd just study you. You can touch him. He's ok. He's alright with ppl. But he's getting more and more dominant and more aggresive towards other larger males. So now I'm taking him out more often to socialise.

He seems to really bark, growl and pull at ppl who act suspiciously. Hands in pockets,striding..or ppl walking in a different "way". Not exactly sure how to explain it. Another thing that gets him all riled up is when ppl hold up things. At one of the gatherings,he was growling at a guy who was holding up a camera to take a pic. As the guy came closer,he started getting more aggresive. Another example was when a guy came to deliver a large parcel and put it on his shoulder. Now that really got him going. Nvr seen him so aggressive before.

I wanna compare this aggression to other BM's..wondering if it was typical of the breed,y'know?Crazy

Thats for sure...

Basically...I think that a mastiff is not aggressive ...it scares pple by the way it barks n size...

for mine...they can be friendly with everyone when i m around..my friend can even feed her n ask her to roll over...

But when i was not there my friend came for the visit..she will bark at him...this i discover recently....and that makes me feel proud of her..:)

Hi,

Check out the local paper and you should see some home bred ones but do beware of pet shops. Cost..... to be honest all pedigrees do not have a value but what the market thinks it is worth. Your best bet is ring up M.K.A. and ask for breeders around your area. They do not give out full addresses as such but will give you their contact and then you have to work from there.

All the best.

I guess that you would spend a lot more on the food then the puppy could cost you. Cool

English mastiff needs a lot of it and especially when growing. Getting quite naughty during adolescence and without proper socialization and training becoming more then a handful. They are very prone to bloat and CHD.

Personally, I do not encourage anyone without experience to get that breed.

Between the two breeds, I would advise to settle for a b/m, they are smaller, have less health issues, are easier to train and need less food.

Ask MKA for breeder contact list.

Good luck.

CHD = Canine Hip DysplaciaEye problems and bloat are high risk too. If you are lucky, nothing shows up at your pet, but to be prepared to spend a lot more then for a smaller sized dog is advisable

Hi mccool,

Hi Billchin,

Your dog is really cute lar. Mine is also 1.5 year old, but he only play with his brother Bobby, and he makes a lot of noise at night.

Sorry for late reply. Didn't log in for quite sometime. Sad to hear that ur mastiff has gone missing. My another dog is vegetable dog. Haha... About 20% of his blood is BM too.

Sorry I have no idea to get BM breed in Klang Valley. I'd been to a pet shop at Tenang, Segamat. The shop owner might able to get imported BM puppy. But, it will takes about few months. They only breed only when there is demand.

Hi Sean. It's been a long time since I was online here. I just lost my Ranger. He was a Prince Among Dogs and I shall sorely miss him. There will be a hole in my heart for a long time.
