Hi,
I have a 10 month old male Labrador Retriever and I recently adopted a 7 month old female
Jack Russell from a friend who didn't have the time to care for her.
My Labrador Retriever is a little on the dominant side when it comes to humans,
where he only listens and respects my dad and bullies everyone else at home. However, he seemed to
have gotten along fine with our 8 year old cat, who completely ignores him even though the labrador
escorts the cat out of the house each time. (He got scratched by the cat once when he was a pup)
The new Jack Russell pup also seems to be on the dominant side. She is very good-natured to us but
is very aggressive towards the labrador and the cat. She barks at the labrador constantly and tries
to attack him. She also ALMOST bit his nose once. He too barks at her.
I would like to know a good/safe way to socialize them and get them to get along well.

You have to control her unwanted behavior and the situation. When the small dog is being a butt you need to stop it, separate the 2 and let them both calm down. Take a firm calm tone with them. Get them both down beside you and have a talk. No difference when dealing with 2 kids acting up. Once calm and being good-give treats.
When you see the play get rough stop it immediately. You can leash and separate, like doggie time- out. Be consistent about what you expect of them and what you will not allow. They do not get "good attention/treats" until they are calm and playing nice
Use a simple firm sharp vocal sound like 'shihh!!' or 'hey!'(instead of words and yelling) and then point your finger at the misbehaving dog. Stand in front of her and look at her eyes till she submits and lower her body. If she refuse and run away, call her nicely and ask her to come --->sit---> down. This will show her that she is being warned! The main thing is to stop/warn your dog unwanted behavior quickly. Little dog probably is just playing but it is getting on big dog's nerves. Ears and neck are tender yet sensitive area for some dogs. If you see your little dog 'kacau' your Lab or come near his neck, then immediately warn her- the little one.
Shouldn't be long before they will recognize the "sound" as your warning to stop what they are doing. Keep at it. Both have to learn the limits. The little dog should not hurt the big dog to cause a fight, but the big dog has to know the limits too. You be the referee.
Try to interact and play with both in a good way and reward and praise a lot. When they are acting up they do not get your attention instead they have been warned.
