Sent puppies to SPCA

I found 2 small stray dog puppies in front of my old house in the morning yesterday. My father told me that the puppies were there for the past whole night already. I made the decision to send the puppies to SPCA penang after work.
In SPCA, a lady told me that the puppies look less than 8 weeks old. For them, if the puppy below 8 weeks old, they will put the puppy to sleep. She asked me to take the puppies home and keep until 8 weeks old, than send back to SPCA. But where can I find place to keep the puppies.
The purpose I send the puppies to SPCA is I hope that SPCA can find a new home for the pity little puppies. I feel sad that when i heard that they will put the little puppies to sleep.
I am now worrying about the puppies, but I cannot do anything, I cann't afford to adopt the puppies. And I no place and no time to take care of the puppies.
I would like to ask, is it true that they will put the little puppies to sleep? What else can I do instead of send these kind little puppies to SPCA in the future. I am curious that, am i wrong to send the puppies to SPCA?

Re: [elizatye] Sent puppies to SPCA

Hi Eliza,

I am a volunteer at the Penang S.P.C.A and can answer your worries. Noting the date you posted I can tell you that we were way overcrowded at that stage (actually for most of last year) and sadly to fit in new puppies were putting down the females that came on heat as opposed to spaying and keeping up for adoption. We had puppies living in the cattery, 3-4 kennel sharing and all out foster families were full and we were pushing to have kennels available for them(I myself had 5 at home with me). We will try and squeeze them in if they are healthy but we also try and get any people that find tiny puppies to hang on to them for a bit to give them a better chance. Thankfully now, thanks to the writeup in the Star Newspaper we have had alot of adoptions this month, making room for new puppies, we are still full, just luckily they are going out as well. You have to remember we only have a small amount of room and if we can't kennel them or foster them we have to put them down. We are desperate for foster families as puppies under the age of 8 weeks need that extra attention and care that a kennel environment can't offer. It is not the S.P.C.A's fault if they have to put down animals, it is the irresponsible humans that don't desex their dog, don't confine their dog and allow it to roanm around the streets mating and creating strays. We are always looking for more helpers to socialise with the dogs (they love to be loved) and welcome any animal lovers (the cats need love too)

Re: [carinmanfong] Sent puppies to SPCA

Hi,

I'm very interested on adopting 1 of ur pup. I'm from Penang but working at KL currently. I am looking for a medium size pup for my auntie who stay at Penang. She was asking for my pup which is shih tzu mixed with white spitz but they all are too adorable to give away so I keep them all then I have to look for her.

Pls do let me know when ur female dog gave birth, I can come back to Penang to get the pup, thanks.....

Re: [maxaus] Sent puppies to SPCA

Dear Bec,

So nice to hear that you are volunteering at SPCA. I do visit SPCA Ampang to help out. It is so nice to be with the dogs.

Thank you for enlightening us on the situation at SPCA. I think the public is ignorant of SPCA putting down puppies and pregnant dogs in the event that there is no space. That's why they keep catching strays and leave them at SPCA thinking that SPCA can find homes for them. Or they keep complaining to SPCA of abandoned puppies/kittens. The other day when I was at SPCA, a man who had just caught a stray puppy came to leave it at SPCA. Two ladies came with a cat and a kitten also to be homed at SPCA. To them they have done a good deed. They said it is better than to let the animals fend for themselves in the streets. To me, it is rather a misdeed if the animals were to be put to sleep. It would be more cruel to deprive an animal of its right to live! The other day when I was at SPCA, the SPCA pick-up came back with a blind cat. She was send straight to that ROOM. I asked the man why she was caught. He said somebody reported. He said she's blind and she's pregnant and she won't be able to take care of her litter. I was so disturbed that day. Why? No matter how difficult life is, surely the blind cat has survival instincts to rough through life!

Maybe we, dog lovers, can help SPCA or PAWS find homes for the animals. Or we ourselves be Independent Pet Rescuers to nurse the sick and then find homes for them. Or if we can't, just spay and neuter them and then release them back into the streets.
