Not So New Member

Hi there everyone,

I am really not new, having signed up in mid-June, a natural progression (?) from membership in the Koi forum; its webmaster is also Mr. B. G. Khoo. Thanks, Mr. Khoo.

I do not have a dog yet, and have been accessing the forum for tips on proper dog ownership (the last time I had a dog was decades ago!) and the various breeds available. I have had also enquired at the for the contacts of the local breeders, having decided not to buy from the petshops, after reading the horror stories on the same. Breeds on my shortlist (small to medium build) includes the Beagle, the Miniature Pinscher, and the Jack Russel.

I attended the event at Central Park last Sunday with my wife and son, and we were impressed with the organisation and the turnout; congratulations to the organising committee.

I met a former colleague of mine, Mr. C. D. Moo (yes, that "cdmoo") and his lovely Labrador, and shall be contacting him for more tips before acquiring a dog.

I also met a very helpful couple with 2 lovely Beagles at the "Meet-the-Breed" tent, and enquired on their experience with their dogs; in my moment of exuberance, I forgot to ask for their names (the owners, I meant) - a thousand pardons to them for my ill manners.

Cheerio for now.SlyLaugh

Re: [cdmoo] Not So New Member

Morning CD,

Yup, I am in Risk Management, and I have indeed assessed the risk of putting up the invitation-to-treat to the members.

The bottom line:

The rest of the forum are only too eager to know your secrets, so they are all on my side and do not pose a threat to me.LaughLaugh

On the other side, we have "uncle" Moo and his Lab. Now we all know that "uncle" Moo, being a responsible dog-owner and lover, shall NEVER turn his Lab against me.LaughLaugh Thus, at best, the only way the "uncle" can get at me may be to try to "muzzle" me, but then again, they don't make muzzles large enough to contain my fat face!LaughLaughLaughSly

So there, I am quite safe from any retaliation from the "uncle". In risk management jargon, this risk has been assessed as being unlikely to occur, with minor impact, and with a low residual rating.CoolCoolCool

But wait a minute, "uncle" is in the IT business! Waaah, he is going to TRON me away!!!!!!!!BlushBlushBlush

Hi ccm,

Welcome to the forum!! I have a lhasa apso of 2.5 years and she is adorable. Beagles are very very active, I had one for a night.. LaughHe dropped by to play with Salsa and just refused to go home!! He was a neighbour's dog. The poor owner was so distressed not being to find him was so relieved when he knew that his little doggie was just next door!! Crazy

I have a GR too, but he is a little skinny and he is imported all the way from Perth. No.. it is not because I don't feed him, but I think his genes are as such. Anyway, bug CDMoo for all the info you need on dogs!! TongueWink

Have fun at the forum! Smile

Thanks, Derrick, Geraldine and Henry for your kind words, and yes, I am already having fun partipating in the banter in this forum.

Geraldine, thanks for the info on Beagles; I have also checked around with owners on the exploits of Beagles in general, and have concluded that I may not fit in with this breed, lovable as they are - yes, "I do not fit", not the other way around; guess it is easier to train a Beagle pup than this Old Dog here!

Cheerio to all.

Re: [ccm] Not So New Member

hi uncle,

Pls. tell us your preferences..

1. Are u going to keep him indoor?

2. Good with children?

3. Size? No large breed right?

4. Double up watch dog as well?

5. Are u going to train the dog?

6. If u r going to keep the dog as outdoor, how much space there? Got garden or plain tiled floor?

7. U need an active dog?

8. Barky dog?

9. Is constant shedding a problem to you?

10. Are u going to groom your dog?

11. Long / short coat?

12. Any estimated budget to spend on the dog per month?

That's all I can think of at the moment.. should be more than this..

Re: [cdmoo] Not So New Member

Hi there, CD.

1. Outdoors, in a proper dog house, probably timber

2. Good with children of all ages (includes me, too)

3. Small to medium breed

4. Full-time pet, part-time security officer

5. Yes, training shall be in the plans.

6. Semi-detached with garden a mix of tiled and lawn

7. Yes, only active furkids need apply

8. Barky, but only when justified - ie, hungry, wants a walk, presence of strangers, etc.

9. Preferably does not shred much, i.e. easier to maintain

10. Yes on grooming

11. Preferably short coat (see #9)

12. As long as it does not send me to the poor-house!

<a 12-pointer questionaire - surely I deserve a token for this>

Thanks, CD. I viewed Mr. Henry Lee's 3 JRT puppies on Saturday at his house in Taman Desa Jaya, but have not yet made up my mind on the breed, JRT, Mini Pinscher, etc.- any suggestions?

Warmest regards,

CCM

Thanks for your mail, and sorry for the late reply as I was away in Kuching last week; and no, I was not there for cats!

I am mulling on your suggestion of getting a Boxer - great idea though, as I could surely win the next "look-alike" contest, what with my Frown face and all!SlySlyLaugh

Re: [cdmoo] Not So New Member

Hi cdmoo & everybody,

Glad to inform you that I have finally made the plunge - I have decided on the Thai Ridgeback which fits to a "T" the attributes which I had set for the dog; guard-dog ability, small to medium build, short coat, etc.

The "Thai Ridgeback puppies for sale" placement in the forum yesterday prompted immediate searches on the various search engines on the species, and I was impressed on its majestic looks and its 350 years' heritage (by the way, I am hooked on things Thai - the Tom-Yam, the Kerabu, the fine arts, and oooh la la, the girls.....).

Anyway, back to reality - a call to Mr. Johan Tung (the breeder) shortly after cumulated in a visit to his house in the evening, and finally, the decision on a cute black female; I was informed that the dam is a Malaysian show champion (both the sire and the dam were at the premises for viewing).

As I needed time to assemble the necessary accomodations, I shall collect Countess (that is its MKA's registration) latest Monday evening.

Regards, & have a pleasant weekend.

Hi cd,

"hey, uncle, Saturday-tea-dance only available in the late 70's till mid 80's.."

No fooling here, it just shows how OLD this uncle is CoolLaughSly.

"How old is the pup now? If she's old enuf, .. and taken all the jabs.. then bring her to the gathering in Kota Kemuning"

The puppy was amongst a litter of 4 males and 2 females born on 9 August 2003, and has had the first jab done, so no tea-dance, or what ever they have now, just yet!SlySlySlySly.

Re: [ccm] Not So New Member

Hi everyone,

Wish to update you guys on the progress.

I have collected the puppy (and just when I arrived there, the proud owners of a male puppy were driving off with their new acquisition) last Saturday evening (could not wait until Monday!) in order that we have enough time during the weekend to familarise her with her new surroundings. This was done after quick dash to StatePets in Bandar Menjalara (guess what? K H Low, the owner, has a silver Thai Ridgeback which he had bought as a puppy in Thailand over 3 years ago; speak about co-incidences!) to obtain a 3'X3'X3' cage and a stainless-steel feeding bowl.

Johan Tung, the breeder, has also very kindly given me a starter-kit consisting of the following items to jump-start me:

-1 week's supply of what has been described (see MarnYook's posting of 28 May 2003 under "Our experience on different types of dog food" thread) as a premium brand (brand-name intentionally withheld here to avoid any conflict with the sponsors of this website) dog food,

-1 bag of milk powder (sans lactose),

-Deworming and Heartworm tablets,

-Medication for sores (just in case), and

-A complete set of CDs on Dog training and Bite Training.

As Bubbles (that is our new name for the bubbly puppy) is still very young, we decided not to wean her off her present feed so that it would be less traumatic for her, what with the changes in her environment, etc.; Johan (he called a day later to check on the puppy; now, that is real after-sales service!)has offered to get me a 16kg bag of the feed at wholesale price, and I have gratefully accepted this help. Thanks, Johan.

I am in the process of joining the and registering the change in ownership of Bubbles.

Cheerio.
