hello steffy,

nice to hear that gizmo enjoyed himself!!!

ohh..is this the first time rascal is out with other dogs? bcoz sze ern behave the same way like rascal too....well..at least now, she lets other dogs sniff her d...when we first brought her out last time, she reacted exactly like rascal...

but of course, being a lazy lady she is, she will lie down n relax lo..like not interested to mix around..unlike sasha n sheena...sheena can mix with anybody and manja with them...guess sheena is very much like gizmo...as for sasha...she will mix but sometimes can even wan to fight with other dogs that snarl or snap at her....Pirate all 3 totally diff character...Unsure

guess u hv to bring rascal out to socialise more....from wat i read about rascal, how he behaves outside and when gizmo first arrived to your home, i would say he is very very much like sze ern...gentle, nice and only get close to ppl/dogs that he knows and comfortable withSmile

A huge success

But few things that I notice at the event that make me feel sickCrazy

1st - there are still alot of brainless & lazy dog owners don't even pick up after their dog poopoo 8am arrive at the park already saw many poopoo already kena boom & many human already kena step on itCrazy

2nd - When I was about to leave the place. If I not mistaken, I saw a aunty selling puppies at BU Park The puppies only few month old Are the breeder got brain or not!!! The pups also not yet get full vaccination already bring the pups out at the park and mix with human and other dogs. I think this is the same aunty I saw at MKA dog show selling her puppies at Sri Kembangan before.

Purina Puppycom K9 Olympic Champion

There will be 12 dog competitions that are open to all dog owners and their dogs to participate. Participation is totally free for all. For each competition, there will be first, second and third placing with prizes and points of 10, 8 and 6 respectively. The dog that have accumulated the most points after all the competition will be the Malaysia K9 Olympic Champion 2007 and prizes as below. Those who wish to participate can choose to join as many competition as they wish.

<< Malaysia K9 Olympic Champion >>
RM 500.00 cash, Trophy, Purina Dog Food and Biscuit, Dog Treats and a Human Hamper

<< Malaysia K9 Olympic Champion Reserved >>
RM 300.00 cash, TrophyPurina Dog Food and Biscuit, Dog Treats and a Human Hamper

Mr Khoo,

We wish to bring to your attention an unsavoury incident which happened at last Sunday’s Dog Olympic event during the determination of the results for the Olympic Champion and Reserve Champion. Our dog, Groovy the JRT, won 3 games (Ultimate Recall, Dog Walk and Longest Jump) and was 2nd in the Olympic Run giving him a total of 38 points which was more than enough to secure the Reserve Champion title.

However, we were shocked to find Groovy’s scores on the scoreboard being cancelled and amended to only 18 points, hence losing the title in the process. When queried on the change in scores, a committee member came out with the feeble excuse that Groovy’s score was halved because he was being handled by 2 owners, me and my girlfriend. Now, how lame is that? As far as we recall, there were many other dogs being handled by 2 or more owners and their scores weren’t diluted except for Groovy’s.

Besides, we refer to your rules on the K9 Olympic games and quote, The dog that have accumulated the most points after all the competition will be the Malaysia K9 Olympic Champion 2007 and prizes as below.’ Clearly, Groovy (a dog) has satisfied all the critieria in your rules and by accumulating 38 points, should rightfully be allowed to win his keep.

The incident has left a very bad taste in our mouths and we do hope that you will get to the bottom of this matter, as the mishandling of results does reflect very poorly on the games committee and the event as a whole.

Yours sincerely,

Fawn

The clarification from the Game Committee as follow :-

In all competitions in the Dog Olympic Day, the Name of the Handler and the Dog of the each winner team are recorded. Dog they themselves will not be able to complete those competition themselves. How well a dog will perform will depend on the handling skill and physical condition of each handler. For example, the Dog Olympic Run depend very much on the stamina of the handler. A fast dog with handler with poor stamina and speed will not win the race and vice versa. Other competitions also depend on the skill of the handler to give proper command so that the dog can perform and win each competition. Hence a direct comparison of the performance can only be based on the combination of Handler/Dog and points were awarded to each pair accordingly. Only in this way we are able to ensure fairness to all those participated. By the way, there are more than one dogs handled by multiple handlers. Result is being tabulated and will be posted in due course.

Why didn't include this rules & regulations at first place??? I go thru the Event info page, there is no mention about this matter and I think all result should remain.

How can after the competition you just add this kind of rules!!! Don't you think is unfair to the participants??? So unprofesional!!!

It's not just this event only. Previous K9 Olympic 2006, in the Ultimate Sit Stay event where the final 2 dogs are 2 JRTs and the eventual winner is not even determined yet, the committee member stop the whole game and named one JRT as the winner and the other one as 1st Runner up.

Where's the fair play that we always strive to achieve?

Yealor....i've brought him to friend's place to play with his other dogs. In fact brought Rascal to a few friend's place to play with other dogs liao, he doesnt seem interested to play with them. He just prefers to lie around, watch us humans doing our stuff than to play with his own friends. Crazy Of cos the other dogs too bz sniffing him and their guests lor and always will try to play with him. Rascal either ignores them totally or growls back at them like telling them "LEAVE ME ALONE!" Crazy He is perfectly ok with ppl, the merry, happy and jolly cocker spaniel is in him and will only be displayed to humans.

But rascal really HATES damp grass. I'll have to pull him like tarik lembu to get him on the grass sometimes.

Asked the vet bout this liao, vet says it's personality. Like humans wor, there are things which we absolutely hate and things that we love. So do dogs wor. Crazy

I've even thought of bringing rascal to the JT thing that is held every saturday, but on second thought better not lah. He already hates damp grass, somemore want him to walk in mud. Aiya.....rascal might be cursing me to death and the whole JT, I wouldnt be walking a dog, I'll be pulling a BULL! Crazy

I'll try again at the next gathering held by UPM. Gizmo would be bigger then and definitely looking forward to future events like that.

*Rascal's Philosophy "Will give the world up for a good nap"
Gizmo's Philosophy "Mine Mine Mine. All is MINE. Sharing is caring..? Whats that?"

Games committee,

Wow, that is a very convoluted and technical interpretation of a rule which nobody was aware of. As Chrisong has mentioned, with the rules being so specific and technical, why wasn’t it brought to the attention of all participants, and only mentioned days after the event has concluded.

Just reading your original published rule which states, ‘The dog that have accumulated the most points after all the competition will be the Malaysia K9 Olympic Champion 2007 and prizes as below’, any ordinary person would come to the conclusion that it is the dog’s performance that matters and the 2 dogs who have accumulated the most points from the games will then go on to win the titles of Champion and Reserve Champion. How the games committee has managed to interpret this sentence to be as convoluted and long winded as the ‘new technical rule’ above is beyond imagination.

Now just for argument sake, we will assume that you intended for these ‘new technical rules’ to apply which somehow was mistakenly left out from your event posting. The ‘new technical rules’ only make sense if all the 12 games require a certain skill or difficulty level which involve training and specific handling elements. As it is, the games on Olympic Day encompass Best Dressed, Fastest Eating, Best K9 Twin, Waggiest Tail and Simon Says which do not require any or much handling skills at all. So how do you justify diluting the scores should a dog win these 5 events under 2 different handlers? Under your ‘new technical rules’, the dog’s score of 50 would have to be divided by 2 handlers leaving him with only 25 points. As a result, the dog loses out on the Champion titles which is absurd and does not make sense at all. There is no specific handling skill being exhibited in all these events and it really does not matter if the dog was handled by the owner, gf, brother, sister or any member of the family for that matter.

In addition, certain games may require 2 handlers to be present eg. Ultimate Recall and Best Dressed (when dressing up the dog). How do you divide the score in this instance, 5 points each? The games committee should be extremely careful when conjuring up these ‘new technical rules’ after the event because they don’t really make any sense at all. The objective of casual doggie games is to encourage participation amongst all owners and dog lovers and your ‘1 dog 1 handler rule’ is in total contradiction.

Morever, you have also underestimated Groovy’s abilities as he can perform equally well with either of his 2 owners and it doesn’t really matter who handles him in the games. It is not like agility or tricks or OB trials where the individual handler really makes a difference. Most of the Olympic Day games do not require much handling elements or skill at all. At the other end of the leash, both me and my gf are also equally adept at handling him. Our intention in taking turns in handling him wasn’t designed to achieve any advantage in the games but more so to give both of us a chance to partake in the games. Unfortunately, we have been penalised for a non existence rule which the games committee has so handily conjured up after the event, and that no one was aware of in the first place.

It is certainly very convenient for the games committee to come up with the ‘new technical rules’ after the event has concluded just to justify their own agenda. The action itself doesn’t speak well of the committee and certainly reeks of unsporting and unfair elements, which is a great shame for everyone concerned.

Ps. thanks kien29, chrisong n nairud for your support and comments. Really appreciate it and am glad that you guys can see right through the ‘new rules’ that the committee is trying to impose on the participants after the event.
