Mr Khoo
I am Julie (Pipimom) the one who spoke to you at the training last week re car stickers. Today I ordered 2 t -shirts with Ms Cheong and hope to get it also by this sunday.
Q: I would like to know if you can give us many more stickers - we want to give the one car sticker to every person that adopt our puppies from the sunway pet rescue volunteer club. Your kind gesture would be much appreciated.

Have d agility sessions started or is this just a performance or preliminary training 2 get use 2 d equipment? R there any preliminary open informal sessions coz Groovy (JRT) has signed up for d March session n is itching 2 have a go at d agility course, whenever possible.

HI,
The agility training will only commence in the month of March 2005. There will be no informal training for student before March 13, 2005. From now till March 13, only trainers and a few junior trainers will continue to practise with some of the equipments at site.

Mr Khoo
The stickers are not enough. We now have 30 pups re-home, we got to give to those people when we visit the foster homes.
Furthermore, it is an on going long term thing, esp. after CNY, we are going to rescue more pups. we intend to give to the new adopter for every pup that is re-home. Would appreciate your kindness to give some more...(since you mention you got lots leh... tkns again) and pse do bring along my three T-shirts that I ordered. 2M and 1 L size.

Cant wait 4 training 2 begin. 4 d time being, guess Groovy will hv 2 stick 2 his makeshift agility equipment which comprise of shoe racks, bamboo poles, planks n child’s play tunnel. Not quite d real thing but close enof.
Also read bout d agility trials/agility dog of d yr in d same site. Will this b 4 real n if so, when n how often will d trials take place?

Yes, the Agility Trial Rules are now in place and will be refined further. Our aim is to train as many dogs for agility as possible and from there we will organize agility trial. How many trials will there be in one year is yet to be decided. We will post that up when we have further confirmation.

In the previous meeting among trainers, it was decided that only dogs that has completed the pre novice training be allowed to join the agility training. Nevertheless, we will be also be accepting students that train their dogs else where or either by themselves. In such cases, the handler of the dog will be accessed by our trainer to prove that he/she is able to control the said dog with various commands before he/she is accepted for the agility class.
Mr Khoo, just trying 2 figure out wat d actual contact zone is 4 d dog walk, A-frame n teeter. Hv read n seen agility runs made in d following manner:
1. FCI World Agility Championships rules - contact is 1 paw on white section of plank, white section being 3 ft from each end.
2. Puppycom Trial rules - contact is 1 paw on white section of plank, white section being 2 ft (mini) or 3 ft (large) from each end.
3. Training - contact is 1 paw on d last step at d end of d plank.
Can understand dat 4 training sessions, contact at d end of plank is desirable 4 safety reasons n building a sound platform 2 d contact obstacles. However 4 agility trials/ competition where speed n control is of d essence, is 1 paw on d white section of plank sufficient n considered proper contact?
Will appreciate any thots. __________________________________________________
Hello! It's actually this thread that brough me to your forum. I did an internet search regarding agility training and discovered your forum and the exciting news that agility is growing in your country. I say "your" because I'm from the U.S. I would like to offer any information or sources of information to get this sport going for you! Especially interested in small dog owners who are interested in training in agility as my focus are my Yorkies!
Agility has been in the U.S. since the late 80's/early 90's. We have six different agility venues to choose from. I wrote an article on the sport for the Yorkshire Terrier Magazine which I will gladly post here if anyone would like to read it to learn more about the sport in the U.S. I've been training for four years in agility and have trained dogs, more generally, since I was able to walk! Would love to chat with you and exchange ideas!
I interested on training my Silky in agility but don't really know where to start. Hope you can give me some tips on this. Is small breed suitable for agility training? Cause when I see there are some jumping over a bar can they do that?
Absolutely. A lot depends on the rules your “Sanctioning” organization adopts ( I see a connection with Purina?). In the U.S. there are many agility venues to choose from, the biggest are the United States Dog Agility Association (“USDAA”), North American Dog Agility Council (“NADAC”) and the American Kennel Club (“AKC”). There’s also an organization that sponsors agility trials JUST for little dogs, the Teacup Dog Agility Association (“TDAA”). I find that AKC, NADAC and Teacup are more favorable to little dogs than USDAA. The reason being, jump and A-Frame height as well as time on course. In agility, the judge sets a “Standard Course time” based on the yardage of the course and a time in yards per second, that each jump height is expected to run. This standard course time is the minimum speed a dog must run in order to qualify for points towards a title. Some organizations, like USDAA, and to a lesser extent NADAC have faster course times, so a little dog has to be FAST to qualify. But what’s more in USDAA, a little dog, running in the regular class, must jump 12 inches. So naturally, the dog will be that much slower to compenstate for the hight. In AKC, that same little dog, could be jumping only 8 inchs. You can see the difference that would make! So, as you make the rules for agility in your country, consider these differences. There’s no reason why a little dog can’t run. I would argue that most little dogs are a lot more althetic than big dogs! They just need half a chance!
Like most everything else, it depends on who you talk to. Most people agree that a dog should have a confident manner and that a more zippy outgoing dog will do better (that sounds like the typical terrier to me!). Here's a poll we did on that topic:
As you can see, though, some people put physical soundness over attitude. I do know of a few very shy dogs who came "out of their shells" while doing agility. A lot can be done with postivie training methods. Still, it's easier if your dog is excited about it and enjoys it as much, if not more, than you do. The way I look at it, I'd only do agility with a dog who loves agility, otherwise its not fun for either of you and why do it at all?
Good day, V r still in d infant stages in Malaysia n only beginning 2 c some schools offering agility training classes with proper equipment. No real trials as yet. D humid weather, lack of facilities n dog friendly parks doesnt help. Most of d work n training hv 2 b done on our own. Really hope 2 c it growing here coz its an exciting dog sport. Guess v really envy u guys in d US, with d abundance of dog sports available each weekend, ranging from agility trials 2 flyball 2 earth dog trials. Cool. V havent reached d stage where u hv many different class sizes 4 different dogs n at d moment its only small or large.
I hv a JRT with lots of energy 2 burn so he’s pretty keen on agility. Yup dun b fooled by d size. Hv seen a tiny Silky who can run d pants off most dogs (S-L) n he seems suited 4 agility as well. 4 agility, I wld go 4 dogs with a never say die attitude n plenty of play/ work drive, as u’ve said…typical terriers or dose from d pastoral group.
R dose ur Yorkies on d avatar? Dey look pretty neat. Do u only run Yorkies on d agility course? Nice 2 hear from d other side of d world. __________________________________________________
Thank for the much info. Don't think my silkies have the quality for agility. They all to pamper by me. Hahaha Do you think my silky that is 5 year old can be train for agility?
