Hi all , recently my mum has decided to get a beagle (yes, i'm only 14 =P) . Today we visited a pet shop and saw this beagle . It seemed quite active and was really friendly to us , his coat was also nice and shiny too . My mum managed to get the price down to $1350 . My question is , do you think we should get the beagle ? and How would we identify a good healthy beagle ? The beagle is about 2 months old , microchipped and has a MKA cert.

Yes Shinn, I agree with you. Not all pet shop have sick puppies. But you need to get some people opinion first regarding that particular pet shop before purchasing. The pet shop you mention is reliable.

i agree with the rest, most petshop puppies have died of distemper. if u feel that this petshop is reliable, then get the pup. you can have some pre-caution, bring the pup to the vet as soon as you buy him. have a check up. ask the petshop if there is such thing as warranty.
have u done research on this breed? you are a student. would the dog be in the house with ur parents most of the day? they can be quite an active breed, so be prepared. remember, beagles are bred to hunt rabbits..

Yes i have done my research , ive read 3 books about beagles . Most of the time as a pup he'll be in the house and we'll take him for walks in the evening. I was initially thinking of a golden retriever since i heard they were easier to handle , but my mum said they had too much hair.

I've just recently bought a Beagle from the pet shop next to the Ming Tien hawker stalls at Taman Megah (The Pet Family). I've previously owned a terrier mixed, cocker spaniel and am now helping my fiance take care of 2 German Shepherds. By comparison, the Beagle is a really active dog. Make sure that someone's at home with the dog at all times if you're planning to keep it indoors. We have her in an apartment and she hardly sits still for one moment! I'm having a bit of a difficulty with potty training and she hates being restrained in any way (leash / cage / room) and she shows that by barking incessantly. She has a great temperament though and will get along very well with kids. My advice? Get a Beagle (or any puppy for that matter) only if someone's at home at all times to take care of it. It's hyperactive and doesn't like to be left indoors alone.

i went there on saturday afternoon, decide to get new some dogs stuff for my henry, and as usual, always would check out the puppies first before buying dogs stuff, and see one by one, and saw this beagle, full payment. and saw a lady carry a beagle away.

Wow! And I'll say it again, small world!! By the way, have named my pup "Sherry"
Gosh! Maybe you can spare some useful advice on how to deal with Beagles. Sherry is sooooooooooooooo naughty! And extremely curious! All she does is sniff, poo, pee, bite and sleep. How's Henry like?
