question about new puppy Can't Post

is it normal for a puppy to dig at its drinking water?

like pawing at it and splashing water all over and making its paws wet?

Yes, it is normal, this behaviour. errmmm.... I'm not so sure what the pup finds interesting about the water but my dogs did it and after they reached adulthood, no more water splashing... it is really normal, an act of play I guess......

btw my pup had a little blood in her pee

I read the other thread but it changed topic should i bring it to the vet straightaway? she is very active and seems to be nothing wrong with her

some say dont let her eat for 1 day

some say give glucose/100 plus + a lot of water

what should I do the nearest vet is quite far away and i dont have access to my car today:(

Errr ... would you panic if you found blood in your urine? ...

I would ... and I would see the doctor at once ... same same for your dog.

Cheers

Yes, bring to a vet!!!! My old dog once had blood in his pee and the vet said it was nothing and just gave some antibiotics....

This can be a sign that got some internal stuff going on, maybe in the liver of kidneys..... better check, she is a puppy so don't starve the poor thing, just give very lil food to make her feel not so hungry, give lots of water too....

Oh dear!!!!Shocked Really? I've not heard of this virus yet.....

Oh, better treat your pup ASAP then, look after her yah...... I don't think it'll be the virus if she has not been mixing with other dogs... anyway, be cautious too....

Hi

Hope your pup's alright. Can you perhaps share with us more information about this virus thingy? We can then dig up some information and be better prepared, as is sounds quite serious.

well, sort of cs almost everytime many puppies go scratching here n there at their drinking water side. My puppy always scratch the bowl after finishing it. Luckily it is metal. If i were u i would go take some water n splash the water all over the dogs body.Sly

Hi,

Could it be deworm? When was the last you deworm? Mine also has this problem before. Eat regularly, drink lots of water but after giving a dewom pill, the bleeding goes of slowly.

Get your vet to do a test on the poo's blood.

Re: [Pops] question about new puppy [In reply to] Can't Post

hi

last time, when my doggie refuses to eat, and her stools turned a darker shade. she also drank a lot of water. when i took her to the vet, he asked me to look out for the following signs:
  1. pants a lot
  2. can't lie down too much, have to sit and go heh heh heh.. (coz painful to lie down)
  3. drink a lot of water (a sign that the tummy is painful, so need to put in fluid to ease the pain)

All these show that the doggie is not well and the problems could be as serious as viral infection or tummy ache or even worse. whatever it is, have u considered taking your pup to a second vet opinion? how come the vet didn't tell u the diagnosis?

hope your furkid is well

I m putting this scenario in a case of Human..When we human have blood in urine (usually not noticeable)..It is usually renal problem..Or even kidney stones..

But what about in dogs..Are they the same? I think u better try another vet. Just my two cents..

Is the blood fresh red or dull red in colour? Is his stools very hard? If you are feeding her dry puppy food, did you soften the kibbles first?

EDIT: In reply to Pops (mistake again click the wrong reply button)

Not to scare you,

i got a rotti male puppy (died) who act the same like your pup.

splashing water all over its place wet, drink a lot of water, poo with blood.

and also a lot of saliva arround his chin.

but nevermind next year I gonna get my own new male rotti to replace what I lost.Frown And I & my bro gonna take all the responsibility on him and make sure he grow up healty. since I got all my experience from books and my other rotti female dog.

my advise change another vet, that vet might be inexperience. I recommend ask a vet to come to your house. I won't mind paying extra few dollars. Bringing a healthly puppy to vet clinics might get him infected with virus, as because that kind of place is full of sick dogs. Frown

u can bring ur pup out after he/she finsihed her jabs, and do keep an eye on what he pick up from the road side, dig it out if its dangerous. make sure he don't get chock or eat something sharp..
