I am really confused and scared when I found out that my Tzu, 9 months old (still doubting on his age though) currently has only one testis showing out. It was 'out' for 1 month ++. Yesterday, I found another lump just right beside his ..erm... shee shee thingy. Right testis is out, left is still hiding. Is it alright? I mean for his age, it will come out later right?
I am trying to gather more profesional information from sifu(s) out there before I bring him to the vet. Of course I need to make sure whether its really the other testiscle or a lump. Pretty scary to find out this.
Descend of Testicles should complete latest by by 10th week of age of the puppy. At the age of nine month, it unlikely that the other testicle will ever descend again. Dog with such problem is suffering from cryptorchidism or 'retained testicles'. As there is a high chance that the restrained testicle will develop cancer or torsion, it is strongly recommended that all of these individuals be neutered.
While dog with only one testicle will still be able to impregnate other bitch, such dog should not be used for any breeding program as such problem will pass from generation to generation.
Since dog of such nature is not suitable for breeding, it will be wise to remove both testicles if you decide to neuter your dog. Neutered dog tend to have the following medical advantages :-
No testicular tumor
Fewer hernias
Improved genetics among breed
Fewer prostate problem
As for cost of performing such procedure, I will have to check my VET for a reasonable cost.
i've adviced my vet..he suggested to remove both tecticle for the dog's sake...and the price is around 370 AUD. since one of the dog's testicle in the body it's more expensive for the surgery.
Thanks! Anyway, the vet did not advice yet to spay him as its difficult to find for the other 'part' in order to perform the surgery. So he advice me to actually massage down the part and see how.
Told me that the cheapest fee mayb RM200 or RM350 depends on that hidden part.
