eat her own stool

Dear All,

Anyone of you know why my Pug (6months Old) has been eating her own stool, since 3 weeks ago.

Lately, she's been treated with antibiotic for some infection in her urine passage, suspected by Vet, due to some blood in her urine. That's seems cured already, I've not seen any blood in her urine for about a week.

Can anyone tell me how to stop my Puggy from eating her own stool? Many Thanks.

Re: [tengy] eat her own stool

Im no expert, but I did read that when an animal eats its own stool it could be because her stool contains undigested food. is that the case here? is she having any stomach discomfort?

maybe you should call the vet and ask him. how old was the pup when you got her and where did you get her from ? If it has been 3 weeks, maybe you could call the vet and take a stool sample for him to check.

the experts are all VERY busy preparing for the dog show, but i'm sure someone will reply very soon. Don't worry!

BTW, I couldn't find anything about this topic, after searching for the keyword "stool". Can you give me some more tips...

Re: [tengy] eat her own stool

In a day or two, I shall post an update of my research and will also tell you how to deal with this problem. One of my dogs has also got into this disgusting habit, but I have managed to control her from doing so 80%, but not yet 100%.

Re: [Derrickok] eat her own stool

Please be warned, as this article is not found in any text books. They are the findings of a conclusion since one of my dogs started on this disgusting habit.
Stool eating or whatever fancy names you want to give it is most disgusting.
It involves namely 3 things. (1) habitual (2) psychological and (3) deficiency in something. Your problem begins here. Which one your dog is suffering? You have to identify the cause first.
However, I shall provide you with a guideline and that is as far as I could help. Further than this you'll have to board your dog at my place to observe.
If it is habitual, then you will have to use a method to break this habit. The method could range from physical punishment to just a gentle no.
Should it be psychological, this is slightly more difficult, as you'll have to employ psychotherapy, which means communicate with your dog and convince him that it is wrong and unpleasant to practise the concept of waste not and there are things that cannot be recycled.
Finally, if your dog is lacking in certain vitamins and minerals, tis a piece of cake. Start him off with supplements such as Vitamin B complex and enzyme for 10 to 20 days, B complex before meal and enzyme after meal. What size dog and what age, I don't think you have said, so The Consultant is not going to stick his neck out to recommend you the dosage.
My shit eating dog has got psychological problem, because she only eat the shit of the sister dog. The rest of the shit she won't touch. Now whenever the sister shits, I picked it up and she has nothing to eat. If this is not successful, most probably, I'll tell her sister not to shitCrazy

Re: [Derrickok] eat her own stool

Thank you Derrick.

I've sent my Pug (7month) 6.5kg to a vet in Ampang, Dr. Singham; and he mention the same too. That he suspected Puggy might be lack of vitamin or minerals.

She's now on medication from Dr. Singham for 2 weeks, and will let you know the outcome later.

BTW, just to let you know that Puggy is having other problem too. She passes blood with her urine, may be having some infection in her system. She's on antibiotic from Dr. Singham for the time being.

Re: [tengy] eat her own stool

Hahaha.. So glad I found another pug owner.. :)

Well.. if lack of Vitamin.. there is something like "paste" Vitamin which u can get it from petshop.. Normally from the Vet one they are selling much expensive.. I saw exactly the same one, which the Vet recommended.. The pet shop in Taipan(sherithans) is selling much cheaper.. I think ard RM19 something.. and before discount. But the Vet there is selling RM50.. ss2 is selling abt RM21 something..

Re: [les] eat her own stool

Correction... "Taipan(sherithans)" ..Sherithans is not in Taipan. .it's in SS19. The one in Taipan is called MyPet Distributor. Well, both of them run by the same family.

Our dear webmaster, are we promoting anything here? If so, pls. *censor* Smile

Re: [tengy] eat her own stool

after your doggie completes her antibiotics - do put her on a course of probiotics _ I read that this is important as antibiotics kills all the good and bad bacteria, and after a course of antibiotics, the dog's immune system will be low. Probiotics is like putting back the good bacteria into the gut and will help absorb nutrients better. You can get probiotics in powder form or pill form - I give my dog the powder one just mix in his food

Re: [tengy] eat her own stool

Tengy

Please have a look into this website.

I once saw a puppy shih tzu in petaling street that eat its own stool. I think he is about 2 months old or more. Pretty disgusting.

Re: [ginl] eat her own stool

Hahaha...

I guess the puppy got confused with the stool's smell like their food?

Yeah, talking about puppies behind that window/cage. I once went with a friend of mine to select a shih tzu that was availble in SS2. She planned to get a male tzu. That was when I still dun have my own yet. Anyway, there was 3 litters (8 weeks old) in the cage and all of them were so adorable and cute!!

Little did we know that the next view of them really turn us off! Well, one of them poo in the cage and turn out all of them are trying to lick the poo. Maybe the poo really smells like their food??? MadCrazyUnsurePirate

hah! guess that you really need to observe them before buying. Wait till they poo then only decide. Wink
