Are you looking for just a pet or are you going to show and train the dog for obedience trials? When you mentioned local, is it because of cost? Just curious on why you are picking a Rottie as a choice? Good luck in your search, because it is a great breed!

Re: [rottie] Rottweiler puppy needed [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually i would like to show my dog and go for obedience trials. Yes, i would like to look for local breed but i know that those who bring their rottie for show ring are imported breed.
What im worried now is i dun get a good dog of what i hv paid for. I don't know who are the responsible and trustworthy rottie breeder in my region. The question is why they can't breed a standard and quality rottie in this region?
Alto i might not bring my dog for show ring, but just want to make sure that i buy the correct standard rottie.
I have read thru some rottweiler books, and surf thru internet to get some info abt rottweiler. I want to know more and more abt this breed everyday. The temperament are suitable for me, and i like the structure...

Hi Rottie,

If I m not mistaken u can actually call up MKA (Tel: ) for their list of Rottie breeder ; there's a quite a few of rottie breeder who advertised in the "Berita Anjing" (MKA Quartely Mag). My advise would be try to look for breeder who:
a.) screen their breeding dogs for HD & ED -
b.) better still see if either parents have working title (ScH / IPO)or Ztp or even Korung-which is very rare in M'sia

I believe most of their import studs from Europe (especially those wt ADRK cert) would have the above record but not too sure abt the import bitch though.

Well also not forgetting, do talk to the breeder and check out their dog on site. If possible also check out their progeny. Just my own personal opinion, I would prefer to look for a 'rott specialist' who only dedicate to breeding rotts coz they have a target/goal in mind for each breeding...improve temperament or to improve bone strength ..etc
Last but not the least chk wt each breeder wht type guarantee he offers for his pup against various genetic health problem....such HD/ED, Entropion etc.

BTW If I m not mistaken, the last time (1 yr ago) I chk was puppies from import parents price range from RM$1500 - $2000 while puppies from local parents would range from RM$800 - $1200. I dun thk the price would have fluctuate too much since.

Happy hunting.....do let us know once u find ur pup...! Smile

Re: [rottie] Rottweiler puppy needed [In reply to] Can't Post

I do agree with Pollux, but I am not familar with the bloodlines that are available in Malaysia. I think it is important to find a reliable breeder and make sure that you could see the parents of the puppy. The trouble is that you must find a trustworthy one, who really would show you the parents. The closer the line breeding, the more the puppy will inherit from the parents per the genetic makeup.

Try to select the puppy at about 8 weeks old, and it should be a minature adult so to speak. Look for proportion and standard from a rough cut, and make sure that it has at least the first vaccination shots done.

No dew claws on the hind legs, but front is okay. The rest must follow standards, such at the bite. Don't believe too much that the bite will change to the correct standard, if there is too much over or under shot.

If you are looking for show quality, support your left palm under the puppy's neck. That is using your index finger and the thumb to form a U shape to hook up its head. Place your right thumb on the puppy's back (right at the croup) and use your index & middle fingers to lift the puppy in between its hind legs. Therefore, you could see the nicely stretched out suspended puppy, and give you a nice look of the angulation as well. It is like stacking the dog for show, except you are stacking the puppy without the need to train or struggle. Remember, do this at 8 to 9 weeks, as a guideline.

Read the web for guidelines to puppy selection concerning temperament. Do not get one that runs away and hide...Laugh If you are planning to go for obedience trial, then pick one that is outgoing and gutsy; active and willingly respond.

If you are going for show, then make sure that you look at the standards.

Regarding ZTP, working titles and so on, it will be good for line breeding. Regarding x-rays, HD is much more important than ED, but I am really not sure that you can really really get HD frei puppies even though both parents are HD Frei. This is because there are so many factors influencing HD.

Well..hope you find your ideal ROTTIE!

Thank you Pollux and chilimson. i really learned a lot from you guys.
i did called up mka yesterday, i oso called some of them from the list that mka gave me. I found out those are from pet shop or they keep their rottie as pet only. I still haven't find out the breeder yet.
From your experiece, what do you think about crating? are kibble good for puppy? what kind/brand of kibble are good for puppy?

Hi rottie,

Well I don't know whether this will help but is actually a compilation of breeder who advertise in MKA's "Berita Anjing"...,
Kennel Name Contact No. e-mail add
--------------- ------------ ------------
a.) Rottville 012-2921898 rottvill
b.)Pecilyn Rott 012-5385345 okchan@
c.)Rock Kennel 019-3381003
d.)Vom BlackRott 012-7136886 allentansm@yahoo.com
e.) Top Rott 012-2222131 jasonow@pc.jaring.my

I hope the above info is helpful but I guess choice is still up to you. I would say talk to them first & see how passionate they feel abt the breed & also dun forget to find out wht is their breeding goal.

BTW I agree wt wht chilimson say earlier, there is NO way a breeder can say for sure that their litter will be HD/ED free even though both parents are HD free. So when I bought my GSD pup, what I did is to get the breeder to guarantee me that in the event of HD or other major genetic health defects, a replacement puppy of my choice or a 50% money back if I keep my original pup.

From my own experience, I believe early crating helps to speed up toilet training in young pups.....after that u dun have to crate them so often anymore.

As for kibble, I started my pup (8wks old) rite away wt kibble+can food as it is more palable....then followed by slowly adding more kibble & reducing the can food for abt 2-3 wks. So I think it is ok to feed them part kibbles by the time u take him/her back.

Well as for whether kibble is good for puppy, I m not too sure b'coz even though kibble is regard as a complete balanced food there is always a better alternatives. I read somewhere that some ppl start their pup wt "BARF" diet straight away & the pup grew up quite well. So I guess everyone just have to make up their own mind & decision. Wink

Well currently I'm feeding my dog wt mixture of kibble (In+Ca+Aba - its not so nice to name food brand in this forum so I hope u dun mind Tongue ). Anyway if u r getting a rottweiler which is considere a large breed, it is better to start straight away wt adult food so as to prevent them growing too fast which is bad for their bone joints especially the hip.

I hope the above info will be helpful. All the best in your search ! ! do keep us update in ur search..Smile...

I had written about dog food in the same thread that you have asked about dog food, but it is in page two of the section. Titled Doggie Food with author Neutrotoxicz. There are threads that give very good information regarding dog food. I personal am feeding Canidae and Solid Gold if the former is not available. I think they are excellent quality food with reasonable price. Do not go for the most expensive food because it may be just branding and marketing. Do not go for the cheapest, because it is not nutritious and contains a lot of crappy stuff and by-products/meat or you have to feed a lot more to make up. And not sure you could really make up for the poor quality ingredient. I will just stop here and please do some research on the branding yourself.

I do not feed can food if I have a choice, but cook chicken liver and beef as supplement to the kibbles. Good quality kibbles is actually good enough, if you cannot cook fresh meat. I do not advocate BARF because our climate is just too warm and you must make sure that the dog eat it up fast. Otherwise it will attract ants, flies, etc....and imagine you have to watch this everyday!

Crating as training is okay, but I do not think it is wise to crate a Rottie for long period everyday.

Re: [versus] Rottweiler puppy needed [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi versus. I have 2 rottweilers. They are my life. So brave and protective while being so loving and comical. I got them while I worked in Sabah...more for protection more than anything but have fallen in love with them. When I moved back to KL, the Rotties flew back with me. The Rottweiler is a breed of extremely loyal dog and wants to be around you all the time (or at least to be able to see you). Spend time with them and you will find they reward you back tenfold with their love and devotion.
