I do not know much about this... maybe other members could help? as for early stage symtoms... Mm... I would say, it's better we bring our dogs to the vet for regular check up and don't wait till they are ill.

Hi Boon,
I'm not sure how to see it but Winnie seem to walk very lazily ... like dragging her leg. The way she sit .... looks normal except her leg not open as wide as other labs. It has been like that so long ago.
One of my friend told me to stretch her rear leg back to 90 degree.. If she's fine with it, means nothing wrong...
I tried that and she seem to be fine but I'm not really sure...

Hi Sweeeng,
Refers: "The way she sit .... looks normal except her leg not open as wide as other labs" .. yes.. most labs sit with their legs while open , exposing all their "parts" .
Refers: "One of my friend told me to stretch her rear leg back to 90 degree" ... how? I was told that you put the dog in submissive position (lie down with tummy facing up) , then pull & straight the rear legs like " I I " . If the dog in pain, he will struggle & make noise.
As I know, in order to do X-ray scan for H.D, the dog has to be in this position.

Oh this is the main fear that I have. We have a Rottweiler now is 6 month olds. We are trying to control her deit so that she won't be overweight! I noticed that her back legs wasn't very strong yet she likes to jump. I heard most rottie has weight problem and then this hip problem. The only thing we did is to feed her Calcium daily. I will need to find out what other supplement to feed her.

Aiks..did the label say specifically which breed? Is it specially for large breed dogs.
So far all the vets I've been too told me not to feed my BM or any other large breed calcium supplements. I've also done my own research on the net/books and it says the same.

Yeap make their bone stronger, but at such young age, how can their bone be stronger than a normal rotti at same age ? simple, grow faster, and eventually suffer from Hip Dysplasia or HD.
For a large breed puppies, do not feed them any suppliments before the age of 2 or at least 18 months and above. Supliments like calcium pil, is a big NO NO. But thing like sup for fur, food suppliments are generally ok if the puppies are more thatn 12 months. but not too much also.
