Problems introducting new puppy to the house Can't Post

Hi Guys

i have a Miniature poodle which is 3.5 months old. My puppy suffers from very bad separation anxiety and training does not seem to be working. Since i love dogs anyway my wife and me decided to get another dog, so both will have companion when we are at work.

Yesterday i got an Australian Silky Terrier which is 5.5 Months old. I liked it because its rare to find these can of breed in Malaysia at least (or what is what i think).

Brought the Terrier back and he was as usual a little bit scared, so i put it in the crate. He was very calm and was sleeping. Poodle was circling around the terrier's crate and smelling. After a while i took the terrier out and my poodle attacked the terrier or at least i think my poodle attacked. Paws to the face like punching action, climbing all over. The terrier was just no in the mood to retaliate it just moved away and my poodle just kept on "charging". I separated them and allowed my poodle to relax for a bit and then tried again and same thing happened. In the night when i tried again this time it was the Terrier that was charging my poodle they were both at it. Paws to the face and climbing over each other etc.

My poodle sleeps in the crate so he does not urine there. I wake up every 4 hours in the night to take him to pee pee. At 2am i took my poodle out and my poodle went straight to where i am keeping the Terrier (in a blocked out area in the yard) and the Terrier growled and let out a loud bark and my poodle ran away straight away.

I don't know if this is a good sign. i don't know if jumping on each other is just the way dogs are playing and establishing pecking order etc. Anyone with some expert advise is very much appreciated.

I don't want anyone of my puppies to get hurt.

CoolHi, I dont think it is a problem for puppies to want to play with

one other. If you observe puppies from the same litter, their behavior

is the same. The more aggressive one will be the top dog or leader

of the pack.So dont worry if your two puppies hump each other.

Things not really improving, poodle is really aggressive and in turn Terrier is becoming aggressive too, to defend him self.

We are already considering to give the Terrier away to a better home. I will never give it to SPCA, but to anyone who can provide it will allot of love and care. I don't want the terrier to be hurt by my poodle :(

Both also male? I've just got my 2nd son, 2 months silky. He is very shy and kept hiding under the sofa. He is very different compared to my 1st son which is also a silky terrier. My 1st son was so damn hyper since the 1st day came to our home.

I own a 4yr.old miniature poodle plus 3 other mongrels. They all get along fine and two live indoors and two are out.but all four are neutered.the poodle is a male.Poodles are very smart but they need to be trained too!

Most likely your poodle lack socialising with other dogs but dont be surprise they prefer the company of humans.Poodle is probably jealous

of the Terrier.Be patient and give them more time together.Never surrender your dog to SPCA or PAWS.I've been a volunteer at PAWS

before.

i believe the "fighting" is a way for your dogs to show their dominant over each other.

instead of letting them get together freely, you should leash both of them up, and slowly let them get closer to each other, this way, you have more control over them and pull them away if they start to "fight" again.

at the same time, maybe you can lavish both dog with nice treats, so they will be more distracted with the food.

and by eating near to each other, hopefully it will calm the both dogs down as they get comfortable with the present of other dogs around.

neutering could be another way to reduce aggressiveness, but that cannot be the case all the time, sometime it might help, other-time maybe it wont, either way, both your dogs are too young to be neuter.

it takes time, and all the best =)
