Help!Sell it or Keep it ???	Can't Post

I in a big trouble now, i will getting married by next month and will trying to conceive right after the wedding.But my father in law keep asking me give my 1nhalf yrs old GSD to others,sell it or jz release the dog at others garden.His reason is i cant take care of my dog when i pregnant,coz my dog always like to jumping on me.Even he already been training for 2 months but still the same.I really dont willing to sell my dog.But i have no ideal what i can do.I also worried 1 day my father in law will jz release my dog without notice.Please tell me what can i do?

if you love the dog then go for training by CERTIFIED trainers especially those that specialise in behavior correction. There are many lousy trainers around and that probably is why your dog is not improving. It will just be a wonder to me if you can sell or just release your furkid. It's like throwing away or selling off your own child when they misbehave.

Hi, Acsyen i agree what you said...do u have any trainer contact? i have spend RM2700 for the so call expert trainer but i didnt see any improved.

Hi Jenchan,

You should ask yourself few questions 1st before you make any decision, to sell, to keep or to sell your father in law (just kidding).

1st Question: Are you a pack leader (in the eye of your dog)? GSD and other working are big in size and need a good pack leader to lead them. If your dog do not see you as pack leader, it is possible that your ranking in on par or sometime lower than the dog. Dog will only look up to his pack leader!

2nd Question: You had spent so much money on training and your dog is still so so.........Why? Dog trainer will only have one to two months to train your dog and its depand on how much time you spend to condition or repeat the training. The latest US K9 training now is to train the dog owner more than the dog. A good dog trainer will train you how to train your dog and let you know how to become pack leader.

It is cute when puppy jump on you but cute no more when he is big and powerful. Some owners like it very much when their dog jump on them..........cute leh. Cute for small breeds lah.......

If you intend to send your dog for another training, make sure you conditioning what your dog learned after "graduation". Do not expect a SUPER obedience dog after graduation.

There is no ugly lady in this world, but only lazy lady who do not like to makeup themselve!

There is no bad dog in this world, but only bad owner who do not train their dog!

A bad owner tend to have a high drive and motivated dog.

A high drive and motivated dog is easier to train as compare to otherwise.

i always believe that there is always a way to solve the problem... sometimes we don't have to gave up in order to get what we need or to meet ppl's requirement or etc... don't worry... like what others said... go get a good trainer... and remember expensive does not always produce a high quality service... god bless... erm.. i do actually think that you shoud have a talk with your father in law... just in case he won't your father in law sell off your furkid without your consent... ^^

Ok, lousy trainer or otherwise, I think I can safely say that t your dog will not jump up at the trainer if he/she comes over for a visit, it only jumps on you or even your family member.... this amounts to bad handling back dog to owner. I am not how much time you have but there are numerous metohds if you have time e-mail to liteweimer @ yahoo .com

oh...i need to train sparky too..he can't 'stay' for long..
this vet i went to suggested a natural remedy...for him to be less hyperactive....does anyone know about this...not sure if it's safe.

Not sure what you are getting at but know your breed well and analysis is it the normal behaviour of that breed. Personally, never came across a dog that do not "stay" for long. What is the duration would you like your dog to "stay" at a certain position? You can contact me at the above e-mail.

Make the dog stay longer with natural remedies? Never heard of it before. If you want your dog to stay longer then just need to practice more. Give a variation of timing and also distractions and reward after you give the ok command. If your dog moves before the ok command make it go back to the same place and do the stay again only this time shorten the time then lengthen it in future exercises.

My dog also very hyper but she can do stay for bout 2 minutes now. Still need lotsa practice and also a lot of exercise to burn out the energy. My dogs are ok on weekdays, they will just play with each other but on weekends they get very excited and if i don't take them for exercise they just tur destructive and sometimes a bit mad also.

natural remedies for hyperactive not to stay long long le..
He stays la...but a while then he will move he's ass a bit further and further and a bit a bit more..and he's up and runnit..so naughty..
he's very impatient...i think need to bring him out and let you all see...ahahaha.... Frown

WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?? If you can't stand up to your father-in-law (to be) over your dog, no wonder you can't handle your own dog!

First, take a stand with your father-in-law over your dog. The dog is yours and it is NOT for your FIL to dictate to you what to do. If he gets rid of your dog without your consent, you should seriously reconsider your marriage to his son.

If this old man is going to push you around now what is it going to be like once you're married to his son? And what is your husband's opinion on the matter? Is he expecting you to do as his father orders or is he standing up for you? What happens in the course of your married life - will you be forever letting your FIL tell you how to live? Is it a marriage between a man and his wife or a circus with his father the ringmaster?

Your problem here is not so much the dog - although his habit of jumping is something you should have got control of by now - but how you allow others to treat you like a door mat.

Secondly, how can you let your GSD get to a year and a half in age and not be properly trained and well behaved? It's a large breed dog with the ability to hurt and KILL someone if it's not handled properly. You've only begun training the dog now when it's over a year old. You're horribly irresponsible. If you can't handle your dog, how will you handle child discipline - or will you leave that to your FIL to dictate too?

I'm being very harsh because there are obviously bigger issues here than just the dog's training and at the end of it, the dog will be the one that will suffer. The issue is YOU and how you handle matters. Take a stand for your dog and take a stand for yourself!

To Yen & PSY :Thank you Yen & PSY i do think fidn a good trainer is the right way for me coz i still love my furkid so much, i dont think i will give him to others or sell him.

Yen, i had contact Cheng See and she came to my house for the consultancy for my GSD.And the training will start soon. Hope everything go well.

To Vic Tea & Gus Gus: I can make sure im not a lazy owner or irresponsible owner.My dog not under my control is i don't have a 'Shocker' in my hand or the choke chain, the trainer i engaged last time was using 2 things to control my dog.Once i dont have this 2 things in my hand, he is totally out of my control.And i don't think this is the right way to treat my dog. So i didnt buy this 2 things from the trainer. And i always try hard to keep training & control him.

To everyone: Is nothing wrong to my Father in law, their old n who's know 1 day if my dog jump on them or hurt them ?For him, he jz want to make sure everyone is safe in the family.

To those who not understand my situation: I jz want some opinion n suggestion for my situation and not any negative comment. Thank You!

Any trainer who resorts to using an electric collar to train a dog is not a trainer I would want to use the services of. Just how did you assess this trainer before you hired him?? No wonder your dog is misbehaving - he is reacting to being abused. And yes, using an electric collar on a dog is abusing the dog. As for using the choke chain, it is not unreasonable to use a choke chain on a dog to train them. You ARE irresponsible because you've let a powerful dog get full grown without proper training. That is irresponsible because if the dog had aggression problems you would not have been able to control the dog. As it is, it jumps on people and at that size and with that strength, he can seriously hurt or kill someone if they fall over and hit their head. If your father-in-law lets the dog loose as a means of abandoning the dog, that too is very irresponsible. If the dog bites someone, you and your father-in-law will be criminally responsible.

That's very great to hear. Cheng is a positive reinforcement trainer. That means no punishment for your dog if he does something wrong. Instead she will reward the dog for positive behavior. It will make your dog keep wanting to do the right thing only. It's the same as to humans we love to hear praises and get rewards then we will be motivated to our best. I have always hated the 'Shocker' It makes the dog reacts in a way which I don't like. However it still is a training tool and I only trust very few trainers to use it as these trainers will slowly wean the dog off the 'shock' collar and eventually the dog will perform without any negative training tools.

Do get more information from Cheng See. Make sure you feel comfortable on her training methods. Ask more questions and make sure you tackle the problem from a-z so it will never happen again. Good luck and let me know if you need any other help. I can be contacted at acs_yen @h.o.t.m.a.i.l.c.o.m.

Gus-Gus, if you have no idea about remote collar please do not comment, it has discussed many a time and that it all depends on the trainer and handler. If you have ever use or experience accupunture.... well that is what it feels like plus it is a darn site better than being "yank" with a choke chain then again a choke collar is also cruel and it all depends on the trainer and handler.

Just for the record, it is a remote collar not a shock collar and secondly it can be use as a positive or negative training tool.

PSY, it's obvious that this trainer has no idea how to use the collar or even how to train the dog and owner using the remote collar or the dog's behaviour would not still be an issue.

Yes, you made your point but do read your earlier posting again, you are putting down all remote-collar trainers plus you strongly put it down to "abusing" which I would think is rather harsh and insulting to legitimate remote-collar trainers.
