Re: [melmel] Dog Hunt Competition Scrapped [In reply to] Can't Post

Majlis Perbandaran Selangor has scrapped the Dog Catching Competition. All dog lovers and animal rights defenders can now breathe a huge sigh of relief.

The Coalition of Animal Lovers Malaysia (CALM - literally formed by regular people in response to this nonsense) would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support over the past 10 days or so. The Selayang Council has scrapped the dog catching competition today, after coming under heavy fire from animal rights groups such as the SPCA, ROAR, PETPOSTITIVE, MARPO and CALM.

However, we could not have done it without the contribution from each and everyone of you. We would like to thank all animal lovers who took the time to sign the Online Petitions, attended the Peaceful Protest, attended the handover of Memorandum & Petition Signatures, and took the time to be present at today's unruly meeting with the MPS. We also thank everyone who has taken the time to blog about it and to link to Mad About Labradors to keep your readers abreast with the latest news.

We would like to thank everyone who wrote in to the press. All the letters that you have written to the press, published or unpublished, caused this issue to be given unprecedented attention in our local media. This competition could not have been stopped without all your efforts and also prayers. Thank you all for having a heart...

Will be posting post operation Stop the Dog Hunt News on my blog... In the mean time, to everyone else, to know what really transpired at MPS, and to see what kind of people that we have on our local councils who are supposed to be working for us taxpayers... see cleopatrathelabrador.blogspot.com

Thank you everyone for your invaluable support...

Re: [natasha_fernz] Dog Hunt Competition Scrapped [In reply to] Can't Post

are you sure it was scrapped?

Yesterday night around 1.am midnight, a van and a majlis perbandaran vehnicle came to my area. And they caught the dogs there.

sadly those dogs that they caught( a few indian teens in the bigger van), are the smaller and friendly ones, those bigger ones which

are the main aggressive stray dogs was not caught.

I was looking out the window saw this guy pushing the dog which was the size of a beagle adult, to the back of the van via a kind

of stick and string. The dog looks very terrified and had its tail behind its leg and it was rudely forced thru the cage that was open

at the top in the van. Its kinda give u the impression the dog was poke violently with the stick.

Re: [magneto73] Dog Hunt Competition Scrapped [In reply to] Can't Post

it was announced in the news,

wht u saw is the contract workers, they are still operational.

this way of catching, a hollow pole with a rope inside forming a lasso at the front end is used to catch dogs all over the world, including the USA, ive not seen any other more humane way so far.....

Re: [magneto73] Dog Hunt Competition Scrapped [In reply to] Can't Post

We need to do something, quick. Although the competition has been stopped, which is good, from what i have read some of the ppl are accusing MPS of 'killing' dogs indiscriminately, which is not quite what the uproar was about.

The ppl who were against the competition AGREE that the strays have to be dealt with. We AGREE that licensed dog catchers be allowed to do this in a HUMANE manner. We AGREE that many of the more 'dangerous' strays should be put to sleep. We DISAGREE with making the CATCHING of strays a sport.

There will be a backlash soon from the general public unless we make our stand clear. We do not want to be portrayed as 'pro-strays' which is what is starting to happen.

Also, licensed dogcatchers should be allowed to operate, the lasso,as painful and cruel as it seems really is the safest (for both dog and catcher) and most humane method.
