Got a question about beagle furs.. Can't Post

Any one have problems with it shedding too much? Mine's been shedding non stop. With one sweep of my hand over his body, they will surely be a few hair that comes with it, and now that the windy season is here.. my porch is all filled with his fur.
Any beagle owners have this problem? I mean, when I look at whiskey, he's living IN THE HOUSE. And doesnt he has any fur problems?
I went to my local VET and he recommended that I stop with the dog food that im giving him and try feeding my beagle with just MEAT + RICE. Any idea this might help? so far, I've tried it for 2 weeks.. and ... nope... no real improvements yet.
Unsure

Re: [billyli3] Got a question about beagle furs.. [In reply to] Can't Post

hi billyli3,

Can u describe by saying shedding too much ? Does it mean that your beagle has bald spot ? Or his fur still look the same as in no balding even though with the shedding ?

First of all u must know that its normal that beagle sheds. In fact they shed not little.. can say moderately.. even more during shedding season.

Whiskey is indoor and yes he does shed and we have to sweep the floor everyday. Though he sheds, his skin and fur still look healthy and no bald spot at all.

So the important ques i wanna ask is is your beagle balding.. if not then i think its normal..

Imagine if i dun sweep my house everyday i think it will accumulate to a lot of fur like how u describe too. Since u leave it outdoor i believe u wont sleep it that often right? That could be why it looks a lot to u.

One thing I learn is to brush him often.. so that his hair will fall off a lot at one time and at one place.. and will not keep falling everywhere he goes. This is not make the house looks like so much of hair.

Btw, what dog food u give ah? Can say most of us here give our beagle kibbles.. not home cook food.

Re: [wan] Got a question about beagle furs.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Oh well, he doesnt really have bald spots on him. There was this one time that he did have it and we took him to the local vet and he says.. that he might've contracted "kurap" or something like that from other dogs in the vincinity. Got some meds and injection for it and it turn out ok after a month or so.
And I guess what you've describe is correct that Beagles does shed a lot at times. I was curious if they shed when you ran your finger thru thier furs, especially at the nect till their butt. Mine will always have a few strands of hair on my fingers when I do that.
Food, Ok, I started with something call LASSO + Can Meat with water(cooked), then later on, this guy from Ban Leong recommended me QUANTO + Can Meat with water(Cooked), then there was Blackwood with the same can meat and water as well. Recently, after what the doc told us about trying Rice + Meat with water(cooked) were now going with that.
And now, after the vet told us,

Alor Setar.
As for the dog food, oh well, you'd probably wont see em around as theyre the more er... shall I say "economical" brand. But thats what my Ginger's original owner suggested.
Hey, does whiskey bite a lot? how did you ever managed to get him to stay in the house and not get headache's with the things he bit and destroyed?
Letme tell you about what he recently just destroyed and almost always destroyed. There was my Scooter's Electrical wiring, which he destroyed TWICE and recently, my cycus palms!!! he bit the leaves oFF!!! and finally, the one's he loves, ASTRO MAGAZINE's. I've been dicovering my monthly ASTRO magazines in a nice little pile of scraps of paper when I come back from work for months now. You know how some of those delivery people just will not leave it in the postbox for you, and will just threw the magazine into your courtyard. We'll... thats what always happen to me.
Bty, I got my beagle from tuck fook.

Hmm.. how old is your Ginger now ?

Haha.. but beagle memang quite famous with biting ..

When Whiskey was younger he does bite... especially when he managed to escape when we're not around then die liao... books all thorn.. shampoo bite until floor creamy.. eat the whole roll of orea biscuits.. cd all rosak... distbin paper all thorn into pieces lor..

That was our experienced with him. After that we make sure we lock him really well..

Nowadays ok.. as long we're around he dare not bite. I guess we have to just keep the things out of his reach lor. Now when i work he's locked at the kitchen.. so far still ok.. nothing to be bite. BUt got scratch the wall when he's really boring la.

After be destroy things he sure get punishment fr us.

Ic.. your beagle is fr TF. I dunno him in person but can see he's experience with beagles lor. Since he got so many.

Since u r in AS u cannot join our beagle gathering lor..

btw.. ur ginger look very cute la.. is male or female ah ?how old ?

Re: [wan] Got a question about beagle furs.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah, I think TF has got lots of experience with Beagles. He got lots of it, which was a nice eperience when we went to pickup ginger. Imagine. A whole pack of it. And the puppies, roaming around too. Definetely have to have a huge house with lots of place for them to play.
I got my Gin at august, and at that time, I think he's about 2 to 3 months old. as TF doesnt like people to take the younglings when they much younger, so.. I guess he should be somewhere around 8-10 months old. A few months short of your Whiskey, and he's a male.
Whiskey is nice too. I like his patch of brown on his one leg, a very unique look. Dont you think that Whiskey's ear is long enough? I especially hate it when they did something wrong and their ears will just turn back or sideways.. and they'll make their innocent face, like they know they already did wrong. BUT, still they will do it again when youre not around.
My wife had originally wanted the tri color but TF had sold all the tri's and the tri's are all females. So, we ended up with a lemon male.
I always thought that he's missing some dark spots.. so, he became such a bad boy. Incomplete you know? hehe Sly
Yeah, will probably never have the chance to bring my Gin out to outings..he is well, very very untrained. The only command he knew is "SIT!" I hope someday I'll know how to teach him other things, but I seriously doubt it. As he is really really strong headed as in thick skulled. Walking with him outside will always end up with me dragging his sorry behind back home all the time.. as he is too easily distracted by sounds.. other dogs... smells.... Could'nt even finish his poo x2 and pee x2 properly.

Re: [billyli3] Got a question about beagle furs.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Wow.. im sure its a good experience. Im so far else sure will go there to take a look at all the beagles. His beagles all know how to hunt right ? I think if put my whiskey in the jungle he sure being bullied by snakes or whatever animal. He's not agressive and very gentle in nature.

Ya dog being dog really they know its wrong but their natural instinct to bite is stronger than knowing its wrong so they cannot help it but bite. So u just try to avoid him out of reach of things that u dun want him to bite. I think buy lots toys for him will help. Whiskey got lots toys oh. haha..

Hey, u shd have train him when he was much younger like 2 - 3 months old that time. They absorb like sponge and very smart one. Now also not too late but need more time I think since he has developed his dominant traits and own character liao.

Hahaha.. "incomplete"... u sounds really frus with him..

Why not try clicker training wor.. were u the one asking me bout it last time ?

ya bout the ears .. yalor i think whiskey's one a bit shorter leh compare to whoopy.. slightly longer a bitbit shd be better..

i will post up photos on whoopy and whiskey meeting soon then u can see.

Actually I think not all is for hunting, TF told me that his hunting dogs are mostly housed somewhere in BW as they are more "chisseled", more "rough"?
Something like that. The one's in his house are all the one's that are more .... shall we say domesticated.
Yeah, I think I did ask about the clicker thing. Well, like they say, you've got to have all the P's to train em well... haha. I'm trying...
Yeah, pics will be nice.
My taman has only got a lot of stray dogs around.. so.. its hard to let my Gin socialised around.

Re: [billyli3] Got a question about beagle furs.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Well...can't blame the dog being naughty bitten all the stuff, because of boredom. Did you provide him the chewy bone? I have 3 chewy bones and toys around the car porch area, whenever Whoopy is bored, she will play with her toys/bones. Because Whoopy is never alone at home, she always have playmate, so ever since we moved back to landed property, she seldom bites her bone, she is busy with the outside view/noise etc.

So far so good (touch wood), she didn't destroy anything she shouldn't bite. She will only bite my hubby's slipper whenever he scolded her. At times she will bark at him when he comes back home. Smart dog. Did your Ginger do that to you, since you r the one always punish him?

Re: [GSlover] Got a question about beagle furs.. [In reply to] Can't Post

hm.. he got his rawhide's he got his bones, pipes.. balls.. all around
but he still bites my plant. after he got scolded and got his punishment he still does it. I just dont know what to do anymore these few days.. he just keeps on biting at my cycus plant. After I punished him he will know that its bad to do something to the plants but for some reason, he will still bite at it. Even after I've elevated my plant to a higher place. And the part that got me sooo angry is that he KNEW, he KNEW that I dont want him to do it, and he KNEW that he did wrong. Because before i even do anything(when I saw my plants being bitten again), he will show his "remorse" face. Doing his uttermost to look pitiful and sorry.
So, for the past 2 days. I've been chaining him all day. At least till I got home and can watch over him.
He wont bark at me. Actually my Gin almost never bark, when he sees me home, 1st thing he wanna do is to play and jump and me. Does, whoopy bark a lot? mine will never bark at me, only time he will bark is when there's a frog or something that comes into the house unexpectedly. Or when his toys are somehow thrown outside. Do you think that getting him another playmate(another dog) will help? I'm scared that it will be trouble X 2 at that time.
Weirdest thing about dogs, no matter how hard the punishment you gave him, turn around, and he will readilly accept you back and wants to play with you.

Re: [billyli3] Got a question about beagle furs.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Well...actually getting him another playmate (dog), may or may not help, I cannot guarantee. It will help if the playmate is a mature adult dog and can play rough with beagle. It won't help if it is another puppy or beagle or timid type of dog.

Last time Tasha is a timid dog, she didn't like to play rough with Whoopy, so at times Whoopy still feel bore, so I could still see her biting her bone. Ever since I brought back Yuki since Tasha got stolen, Yuki is a mongrel which is bigger than Whoopy size a bit, they both play very rough until both exausted. So hardly see her biting her bone. When they play, Whoopy is the one always bring the toy/bone asking Yuki to chase her. Because Yuki also like toys. Very fun to watch them play.

Whoopy can bark a lot. Every little sound, she bark. When she barks, her fur on the neck/back all stand up like a cat. When stranger come close, she still barks, but will back off closer inside the house, she actually is coward but pretending to be brave.

My hubby never touch/sayang her, that is why she doesn't like him very much. But she obeys him, whenever he is around, she dared to stare straight using her eyes. She will quiet when my hubby told her to stop barking. When my hubby is around, she will behave extremely well.

Re: [billyli3] Got a question about beagle furs.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually Whoopy starts to bark agressively after turning 11 mths old. She started off with barking stange noises/things, such as crane digging, waving flag etc. And following neighbours' dogs barking towards garbage men, postman, etc.

Probably your Gin is still young. I understand from the other thread that your Gin is following its mom (Tuck Fook's dog) personality, dominant type. Well, I think it should not be the timid type then.

Whoopy is a dominant type dog, sometimes she snaps my hands when she doesn't like to be touched or hold. Very strong personality. She dared to pick a fight with much bigger size dogs, although injured but she will not surrender either. Most of the time she fights over food and toys. But very very smart and obedient...now she knows she is not allowed to sneak out when our autogate is opened, each time sees me holding the car keys, she will automatically go inside her cage. She actually sneaked-out less than 5 times and got punishment, she already realised the rules and observed the daily routine.

Mayb its like Gslover said, he's just young. He will bark sooner or later anyway. Right now, he's starting to make those awful crying noise whenever im not playing with him. He will whine non - stop until I go out and give him the attention he wants... Beagles are really a very active kind of dogs..

i think sooner or later he will learn to bark.. but since he doesnt bark much now he will not simply bark in the future too. Good enough if he just bark at strange noise, animals or stranger that passing by.

whiskey starts to bark at strange noise bout 6months. now he likes to bark at cats.. while barking his tail will wag.. i think its a friendly bark.

Sometimes he will bark and growl at stranger... we feel it very funny cos we know he is very friendly but just pretend to be fierce.

How's Gin now? Still got destroy things ah ?

Whiskey also likes to whine... whenever he cannot access to anything he wants... but wont whine non-stop la... hahaha... probably your Gin trying to manja with u all... hehe

Yeah. Probably he will bark sooner or later. Whenever there's cats or something else smaller he will be barking and trying to chase em. Just like what you describe. What's funny and hillarious is when there's cow's or goats passing by in front of our house, he will stop whatever he is doing and just stares at them.... I think he's scared of em.
So, far Gin still is unable to bark at other people, in fact his first reaction was to run away from them. Then later on.. he will come and greet em.
Destroying things is in his gene. He'll not stop. So, far I've moved my plants and things outside.. so, i'm hopingthat he could eventually out grow those annoying traits of his.

Bty, how did any of you guy's furkids do in CNY? I mean when the firework starts? HAHA! My gin RAN and was nervous the whole time on the 30th night.

HAHAHA.. u reminded me bout the CNY ... I was back to Sitiawan my hubby's place .. yes on the 30th night the fireworks there was really loud and bad.. even my own heart was thumping faster..

Initially Whiskey was ok... he was with us outside.. looking at the kids playing at firecrackers.. and the sounds was still bearable.. and he was still looking and kaypo kaypo...

At bout 12am... mati lah.... BING BANG BONG... SO LOUD... u know la.. back in hometown always much more worse than in KL .. he also takut... he was like dunno what to do... he ran up and down... and dunno what he shd do... and trying to hide himself.. and then ran out to the road cos the gate was open ... but we manage to get him back.. think he was nervous and dunno what to do. Then i ask him to go inside the house.. and close the door.. so the sound was bearable lah.. his tail was down and he sit closely next to me... yes.. nervous the whole time until the loud thunder was over. hahahahah...

I think i got video of him.. hahaa... during that time. And also photo... of his nervous look.

CNY this time was an adventure to him.. he gets to walk twice a day... morning and evening.. and travel back to segamat my hometown.... everybody likes him very much...say that he's very guai..

even my father also starts to like him cos he initially ask me to throw him away or give away...

Not really all the time. As I stay in Alor Star the padi field of Malaysia, there is bound to be some. Anyway a few block from my house, there's some padi field. Sometime, some of those cows or goats.. will pass by right in front of the house when they're grazing.

Hi Sharon, Please try my suggestions for fungal infections, I've had much success so far. If it is a viral wart, that'll be difficult. Try an over the counter wart remover if the fungal treatment does nothing but confirm that it is viral.

Hi Billy, YOU DON'T Want the Dog to BARK ! Beagles bark and howl and that'll be worse than him biting things. Beagles want attention and he's probably biting your things for attention. Everytime he bites something, reprimand him sternly and put a muzzle on him for a day, maybe that'll stop him. My dogs stopped destroying my shoes after about a year !

Some of the beagles in the same litter are hunting now. They are best described as ' chicken '. Staying a safe distance away from a boar on the chase is usual and when a gunshot is fired, they will sometimes head straight for the car. Their nose is good and the'll start barking when there is a wild boar, well before the mongrels. So far, the training has been promising. The mixed beagle/mongrels may turn out better though.

Tuckfook.

Hi sharon, you're staying in AS as well? what part? my Gin is only about.. may b 1 year old.. he's got some skin problems as well last time and we took him to the local Gov VET in Tmn. Intan, and after the injection and meds.. he got ok back.

But, I suspected that this problem occurs when we let our dogs sleep outside in the house. I mean, I let my gin sleep on the porch. Not inside the house.. so.. mayb the bacteria or germs from the floors.. sort of creeps up on his skins... my gin has got some of these kind of skin rashes.. on his elbows as well. But, in any case, you should try Tuckfooks methods to see, as he's really good in it. He's got lots of beagles. And when you got sooo much furkids to take care of, experience really comes by to him.

Hi Tuck fook, I've never tried to put that thing on my gin's mouth, would it hurt him? whenever I tried to playfully binf his mouth with a piece of his.. torn cloth... he will always try to take it out. And it will be out real fast.

I do agree about him not being able to bark a lot. It is a good trait. But, I guess he will eventually grow out of it.. and start to bark a lot. I mean I expect him to be so.
