well for starters, never encourage a behaviour no matter how cute ie. jumping if u are going to live to hate yourself for it. yes it looks cute when they do it as small little puppies but they will grow. and if this behaviour is not properly introduced and practised, there is where your daily, dogs jumping and pulling your favourite jeans or skirt come from. because u encouraged it while they were young but you never set any rules, they never learnt. they are dogs. they won't know when is it ok to jump, when it's not. a jump is a jump. they won't know how high is ok etc. a good example, what your bf did. he allowed at first cause your pup was still small and cute. no biggy. but a big mistake. as you mentioned, now even with a stern no, your dog still does it. corrective action is harder than prevention. also...please dont' hit your dog...you'll only agravate her even more. there are many kinds of growl. some aggresive, some just to start play. if she does jump, what your friend said works, walk away, but what your friend forgot to mention is ignore your dog totally, including eye contact. turn ur back, walk away. don't even look at your dog. when she sits then praise. etc and stuff. again, don't hit, you'll end up doing either of two things, building even more aggresion towards you, or your dog being intimidated by you. intimidation and respect is two different thing. a dog that respects you will listen to you, so will a dog that is indimitated by you but the difference will show in the dog's body language. ear and tail will show how much your dog respects or afraid of you.
