My dog dont howl at night but my neighbour dog do...5 of them will howl when nearby mosque start praying.....that means..they howl 5 times a day....they howl at 5.00 am, 12 pm. 3 pm, 5 pm and 7 pm.....
sometime they howl until my hair will stand up at straight as KL tower
They specially howl alot during the Chinese ghost festival...very scary...
Everytime they howl, my dogs will bark back...really bad....

Eeks! The dogs howling to the call to prayer would drive me nuts - especially the one at 5 something. I live within vague hearing distance of 4 mosques and their calls to prayers start a few seconds after each other so they are not in synch which is bad enough (especially because at least one of them is flat) - I'd hate it if the dogs around me howled to that every single day!
To answer the question as to why dogs howl - it is a form of communication for them. They howl in response to each other, sort of like a message network. One dog howls and the others howl in response - and the sound carries to other dogs who hear the howls and howl in turn. The reason why the call to prayer would "trigger" the howling is that it is at the same pitch as a dog's howl. To the other dogs, it sounds like a dog is calling out to them so they are replying. Sorry but I have no idea what the message that they are passing to each other.

Kakaka...
i sort off get used to it but not my family..creepy and scary they claim when those dog howl....everytime they howl..my dog will respond back with loud bark as if asking them to be quiet....
