I wish to adopt an Australian Terrier puppy Can't Post

I know it may sounds ridiculous but I really really wish to adopt or pay for a small amount of money for a pure breed AT puppy as I did some research for weeks on the net and bought a few books about dogs and finally decided to have this breed in my house as my new fren. (YES. I'm ready for the committment of taking care their whole life)

I saw one of my fren's AT and I cant forget the adorable and cuteness of the AT since that day. Too bad the AT was spayed. Frown

I was never a dog lover b4 this (because of my family keep telling the disease they have and how dangerous they are). But after being with my ex gf's dogs, i fell in love with them.. I never never come across that dogs can be so lovely and such a great companion for live. They can even be ur fren, not just a dog.

After weeks of research.I really sad to know the fact that majority of the people dun really appreciate dogs and lack of knowledge of having dogs. The way they cage the dog or having a dog but does not train them properly then makes the dog bite ppl and bark at anyone they see(anti-socialising), really really kesihan and feel wasted.

Hmm.. appreciate any reply from u all.

Regards,

KeeM

You looking for australian silky terrier? Well, there are a few breeders out there that are selling.... but they are normally sold at around RM1k price.... purebreed dogs are not cheap you see and rare one is up for adoption. You will need to search high and low for someone willing to let you adopt. If you buy one that it is faster.... anyway, all the best in looking for a pup!

Hi Crazymouse,

I think KEEM is looking for Australian Terrier NOT Australian Silky Terrier.Wink

What is the difference between a Yorkshire, Silky and Australian Terrier you may ask? Well, they are related in a way.

The Yorkshire Terrier is a dog with maximum weight of 6 pounds; it has much less muscle and body weight than a Silky Terrier, and is very refined in bone. They also have a more rounded, dome-shaped skull, large round eyes and a short muzzle. A Silky will have a longer, more wedge shape to the head with a flatter skull and an almond shape to the eye. The Australian Terrier head is very much like the Silky only a little larger and coarser. The Silky will weigh approximately 10 pounds while the Australian Terrier weighs in closer to 18 pounds.

The Yorkshire and Silky have similar coats in that it is a single coat (much like human hair). The Australian Terrier has the broken coat (coarse with undercoat) common to most terriers. The Yorkshire and Silky coats do not shed while the Australian Terrier will shed the undercoat about twice a year. The Silky and Australian Terriers have ears which stand erect on top of the head while the Yorkshire ears are erect but may flare more to each side of the head.

The Silky and Australian Terriers are quite similar in temperaments, a true terrier!! A Yorkshire is a ‘small’ terrier but does like to be a pampered ‘pillow’ dog whereas the Silky and Aussie are more independent in nature.

Below are photos at varying ages of all three for you to better be able to see the difference. At one day old, all three look very much alike except birth weight may vary with the Yorkshire being the smallest. It doesn’t take long for them to start showing the difference though – both in looks as well as temperament.

Australian Terrier:

8 Weeks 6 Months Adult Head & Body

Silky Terrier:
8 Weeks 5 Months Adult Head Adult Body

Yorkshire Terrier:

6 weeks Pet Yorkie Adult Head Adult Yorkie

Ohhh... that Australian terrier... but isn't it kind of rare here?
I have seen silkies and yorkies here... but rarely an aussie terrier.

Re: [chrisong] I wish to adopt an Australian Terrier puppy [In reply to] Can't Post

Oh izit? i don't know they are rare breed in msia as my fren having one of it. I confirm it's a aussie terrier because i already saw the explaination of the diff between aussie terrier and aussie SILKY terrier from chrisong ealier on the other thread.

But too bad her one was spayed. Frown

Anyway, i went to puchong yesterday to see a silky terrier and her coat is brown colour like English Cocker Spanial and the owner said its a very rare colour but she is pure breed for sure. As I i know their coat should be tan and blue in colour after i did a research thru AKC website though they do not mention that brown colour is a fault also lar.

This is the description from AKC website...

" Blue and tan. The blue may be silver blue, pigeon blue or slate blue, the tan deep and rich. The blue extends from the base of the skull to the tip of the tail, down the forelegs to the elbows, and half way down the outside of the thighs. On the tail the blue should be very dark. Tan appears on muzzle and cheeks, around the base of the ears, on the legs and feet and around the vent. The topknot should be silver or fawn which is lighter than the tan points. "

I would really appreciate any advice given by u all. Thannks again for the replies.

Anyway, Chris.. Do u have the intention of mating your champion dog? they are cute leh...Wink

Whole body cover with Brown/Tan colour Silky is a fault. Brown/Tan color should only on muzzle and cheeks, around the base of the ears, on the legs and feet. Topnot should be silver or lighter Brown/Tan.

If you are interested on Silky Terrier do drop by on the 19th February 2006 at Summit USJ. A dog parade will be held there. Do give me a call at 012.2994068. At the moment no planning to mate my Silky but I can recommend you a reliable breeder for ur reference.

Chris

Hi Chris,

I'm a newbie to the forum and looking for a silky terrier. Could you recommend/provide me with the contacts of the breeders? I've seen a few in the pet shops but would rather get one from a breeder.
