Hi ...

It's hard keeping a dog in an apartment ... also you don't say how old your dog is, how long you have had him, or where your pup/dog sleeps in the apartment ... But you need to do something NOW before your neighbours start to complain ...

(A) First ~ realise that a schnauzer is a very alert breed and can be barkers ...

(B) Second ~ If you just got your schnauzer ~ and he is still a pup ~ it's normal for a pup to bark the first few nights because he is frightened, in a strange place.

Things you can do:

(1) Spend as much time as you can with your dog, the faster a pup gets used to you, the more at home he feels ~ the less frightened he is going to feel at night when its dark and quiet.

(2) Make sure your pup/dog gets plenty of exercise just before bedtime ... Take him for a walk, or play with him ... the more tired your dog is ~ the less likely he is to wake up and bark ...

Also make sure your pup/dog gets to go to the toilet before bedtime ... make sure he is not barking because he need to go pee or poop.

(3) Let your pup/dog sleep in your room ... Make him a bed with a small mattress ... and let him sleep next to your bed.

If you do the above ~ there is a good chance your dog will stop barking at night.

Remember ~ no punishment - no scolding ... that is only going to frighten him even more ... what you must do is make your pup/dog feel really comfortable and safe.

All the best.

i like sleeping till 9am in the mornings, i got a keeshand dog, 18 months old that i have had for 3 weeks now. every damn morning at 6.30am she barks and barks for what ever reason i dont know at the neighbours fence waking everyone up pissing everyone off. this dog also barks at any noise out side the fence or anyone walking past on the road at any time of the day.

i got this dog to keep my other dog, a westy, company. the westy is quiet, the keeshand is noisy. they like playing together, theres no issues there.

what can i do to stop this constant barking, its drivnig me insane, i cant imagine what the neighbours are going through, i have been avoiding them for the last 3 weeks.

im on the verge of taking the dog back if i cant fix it, i need help pretty quickly.

Just read your posting, actually there is a way and I have used this method but unfortunately you need to be train by an expert or someone with the knowledge. I use a training method that is call a remote-collar, which many dog owners in Malaysia feels it is a very mean method. You need to understand this before you can judge it. What it does is it gives the dog a sensation. The gadget is worn round it's neck and everytime you activate it ,it will give the dog an annoying sensation. First and foremost you need to let the dog know that the sensation means "No No" then subsequent activation without the reprimand word, it will let it know is "No". You can activate the collar from your bed. Now I do know it does not hurt the dog simply because I have put it on my neck to feel the sensation. My dob is train this way and she is fine now she does not even wear it but for her daily walk and the reason is that it acts as an invisible leash, in short I can walk her off leash and she will "heel" all the time without wondering off.

So, for your problem I suggest a remote-collar and yes you can also do other training with it.
