Play ball or fetch! Can't Post

Those who hv expressed interest in getting deir dogs 2 play ball/ fetch n retrieve…may wanna try dis:

Try 2 figure out wat motivates ur dog or gets him all excited…treat or toys (‘toy’). Once u’ve figured out his fav toy, item shld b used during playtime/training only. Initially, if u play with a single toy/give a special treat enthusiastically n consistently, he’ll remember d toy as d 1 dat gets him all d attention dat he seeks from u n will strive 2 please whenever toy is shown. U’ll need 2 get ur mutt excited with d toy n play which means u hv 2 b excited urself n ur dog shld b looking forward 2 lots of praise/treats/tugging sessions as reward for a successful fetch.

Getting ur dog 2 chase d toy shldnt b difficult as it’s his natural instinct 2 run down a moving object. It’s d picking up, retrieving n handing over dat requires more time n effort. Progress in stages with plenty of praise/treats. Show dat u r equally interested in d toy, chase after it n pretend u r in a race with ur dog. Teach dog 2 take item, praise…run back 2 original location with toy…praise, give toy…praise. Surprisingly, d last part mayb d hardest if ur dog isnt a natural retriever. Some toys, dey just dont wanna let go of. U can teach each stage on its own with other toys. B consistent with ur commands n signals. Go/fetch = chase d toy, take = pick up n hold toy in mouth, bring/here = informal come 2 owner, give = dropping toy on command. Dont expect a perfect give right into ur hands all d time… if its dropped nearby, dats good enof.

5 -10 attempts per session is pretty good depending on ur dog’s mood. Ven ur mutt makes his 1st successful retrieve, u r on d way 2 quality playtime with ur dog, n more importantly he’s enjoying it as well. Benefits r multifold: exercise, a happy mutt n wat more, d fav toy is very useful 4 general obedience n agility training. Also, very useful in getting his attention. After awhile, u may eventually hv 2 resort 2 saying B.A.L.L instead of ball 2 keep him from getting all excited…case in fact, my JRT. Remember, b consistent n lots of praise even if it means acting funny in public.

Groovy, ‘Makan bola, tidur bola, mimpi pun bola.’

Planet Dog Orbee Ball is one of the best toys for this exercise.
