it has disadvantages and disadvantages. proper responsible crate training is ok but dont expect the fella to be crated more than 8 hours.
i personally have gone thru the crate training. we work from 9am - 6pm. we have a GR pup who is now 8 months. we had no choice but to crate her. but instead of crating, we have a playpen with sufficient place for her to move. GR are very people dog and will be mischievious when left alone. i suggest if u dont have time to spend with him, then forget a GR or forget a dog.
you cannot say u r tired coming from work cause ur doggie will be ready to interact with u, play with u and both of u will be frustrated when the dog have bad behaviour simply because its bored.
we spend every moment with our dog cause we dont want her to go crazy. if we have to work late, we will send her to daycare which she is more than happy. we put her in a playpen, giving her treats, toys to play. she still sleeps mostly in the afternoon so she literally is crated only about 4 hours. young puppies cannot control the poo/pee so be prepared to have accidents in the crate. we crate our pup with sufficient water, treats, toy, a comfy place to lay on, soft music and fan to keep her cool. i come home first then the hubby, so i will walk her. she has been really good until now. and i am glad. but they get bigger so i started training on her almost immediately.
if u still plan to get a GR and feel sad to put in a cage. send to a dog daycare. it could easily cost u RM500 extra a month but if u r willing..then why not??? GR pups can be a disaster cause they need to learn house rules and all..so be prepared to wipe away pee/poo in the house, ur shoe being chewed and anything u can think a 2 years old will do..a GR pup will too.
