A rottweiler owner that scares of rottweiler!!!!! Can't Post

Hi everyone, i got a rottweiler back home and im currently studying in melbourne. the dog is 1 and a half years old and he has bitten stranger twice and having some serious behavioural problem.
Some of you might wonder why i didnt send the dog to training. Actually i did, and the bugger charge me for RM 1000 for just teaching him sit and drop.
but anyway, the dog doesnt seems to like me and he dont want to get on the car. and im afraid of him as well...... can anyone tell me a way to solve this problem. Thank you.

He never bite me b4, because i never walk near him b4, his only closed to my mum which she cannot really hold him back. i told think putting a dog in a cage 24/7 is a good idea. i think that is worst than putting him down.

Sounds to me its a bonding issue. Not the dogs mistake unfortunately. Putting him in the cage is not going to help in solving this problem.

Who was the so called trainer u were refering to? and at what age the dog was sent for training?

Mat-salleh?

6 months? for puppy Obedience issit?

I cant say more until I read the dog personally. I also suspected it to be poorly socialised and mal-treated may be intentionally or unintentionally.

this is pretty sh** . i blame myself for not doin enough research and get the pups. i agree with you that he didnt get enough socialise.

that guy tell me he can be train to be attack dog and he show me some of his result. i trusted him because he appear in one of the local newspaper so i thought his reputable. and when i send it to him. during the 1 month my mum say want to go visit the dog and the bastard dont allow so i think something dodgy is going on inside.

actually he did attacked 2 ppl b4. so i really not sure what to do. my mum and dad treat him like my bro therefore they definitely wont put him down and i also wont want the thing to happen. seriously sh**!!

qstee,

It is good that you have the ability to learn and become better. Often it is some sort of crisis that matures us. Smile

Do u mean he does bite training with your 6 MO pup?? or showed u his other dogs?

I dont agree with putting down this dog and if my feel is right and what u told me is accurate then this dog can still be saved to become a good property protection dog. However I cant guarantee before seing the dog for confirmation. Nevertheless, whatever u do this dog needs a reliable OB regardless of u want him to bite or not. Otherwise you are waiting for bad news or lawsuit in hand. The older he gets the more confidence he grows and the worse he will become. Just my advice.

Oh BTW, it is quite natural for trainers to not want visits about 1 sometimes 2 months at the begining of a training session so as not to mess up the initiation and bonding process with the trainer. But they will show u the results after that session. Nevertheless, I still dont believe in 1 month OB. For 6 month pup it sometimes require 3-4 months on OB alone. For 3-4 months pup 2 months should be ok. For 1.5 YO pup with problem nothing less than 4-5 months is the general idea.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i dont think he did bite training with the dog, he say must do obedience 1st only can start with bite training. he just showed me the dogs picture. and some newspaper article.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i understand, but the dog only friendly with my mum and dad and another two workers. As u can see that the 2 workers are from cambodia(i think). i got some communication barrier b/w them so i cant really commmunicate with them. and my mum i kinda worry about her therefore i wouldnt want her to get too involve with the dog. and my dad is always oversea.....so im really not sure..... actually i plan to correct his behaviour on beginning of dec. because the time i will be back. but the thing is i cant even go near him....now i think he view me and my brother as his enemy. besides that he is quite moody, and according to my mum, if his not in a good mood. nobody goes near him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unsure

with dog its about time everyone knows that you dont just plan to fly in correct the dog and fly out as if nothing happens and expect the dog to follow. This only happens in cartoons series and not real life. Like I mentioned before its sounded like a pack issue meaning your mon dad and the 2 cambodian is in the higher hieracki than u and your bro. whom is below the dog. In order to correct this the dog needs to be under perfect OB by someone first. Then the introduction can get on the way. Nothing before that. Without any experience and just armed with reading books I can say it may not be possible or as easy as u planned.

Quote

but i read from the book. they say that the trainer will happily let u see how they train the dog. and they say that is a bad idea to hand your dog over to other trainer.

That is refering to normal dogs or your daily properly socialised pet. I'm refering to your case as not normal dogs but a problem dog of 1.5 years old. Problem dog needs different approach. Obviously this sounded like high pack dog and if any known members are with him then the bonding with another person (the trainer) will be harder and almost impossible to achieve in some very hard dogs.

Heheheh What do u expect, cheap but still good and big piece? Realistically u have to start from somewhere. You already have first hand knowledge of what cheap speed training does for you. If you want reliable and model dog then it comes with a realistic fair price. We must be logical with our aims here. Only pass your dog over if you really trust the trainer otherwise search more about him before making your decision. Everyone have their price depending on the kind of services. Cadillac service at proton price is not a reality Cool Fruit for thought.

That seams to be the extreames of what people do. When I first started in protection dogs this same piece of advice is often given to me. For me anything goes and anything has its price to pay. For example dog lacking socialisation will show very fierce defense in their own home but when out of the home they become a nervous ball of wreck. Also many people cannot read a dog and to most a barking dog showing their tooth is a fierce dog to them. In most cases its the opposite and that same dog is actually barking out of fear and any one knowing dog can simply turn the dog over and he will be running with the tail between the legs. However if people that does not have the commitment to properly train a dog then this method seams to be prefered as they become a natural watch dog showing impressive sets of tooth.

The proper way is to socialise the shit out of the dog so that he can be so confident he will perform his duties under whatever test and condition. This way most of the dog will not show teeth at all to strangers when u are around because they are confident of themselves. But dont try anything funny cause they will act if reacted on or the right conditions allow them to engage. This is the real guard dog or personal protection dog not crazy barking dog. This may sound impressive but I had experienced that 9 out of 10 people will cringed when they ask about the price, time and commitment for this type of training. So this is the case in Malaysia.

I guess it is due to this that many people got cheated. Because everyone wants cheap service and these sort of trainers will offer all sorts of speed training n sub standard methods to keep the cost low. RM1K in pocket is RM1K richer. No follow up service, no good advice given. Crazy

thanks for your advice, but the thing now is i just want the dog to be more frenly instead of biting everyone. i dont want the dog to be guard dog and i dont think he suits. although his a rottie but actually his not a pedigree. so i think is very hard to condition him to be a guard dog. now i just want a frenly dog.that would be fine for me.

I really regret for being rush when getting the dog. thats why as u can see from my other forum im planning to get a GSD. this time im gonna do more research and probably meet up with some breeder and plan for another 1-2 years before i get them.

anyway.....do u know anyone that is worthy that can correct my rottweiler's behaviour? thanks alot

He needs not a normal trainer wannabe. Someone who is into behavorial change would do the job. May not be easy. U will have to be ready for 3-4 month daily session.

hi...i think u basically have a bondage problem with ur rottie...

i have rotties at home all these while..n they r just beautiful n great....

i hav one named jazz aged 15 years, mars aged 9 mths n the little one stout aged 5 mths...they r my very good friends indeed...

to get back the bondage..u have to reestablish ur relationship with ur doggie... things u may do to win back his confidence in u are :
feeding him snack as often as u can...not the quantity but the freqency..
stroke his head n scratch his belly ...
play with him ...balls - throw and catch type..

btw the way, do u tie him / cage him all day... thats the worst thing u may do to your dog....just imagine if i tie u up / cage you all the time...u may go mad...

dog are like us human...they are beings just that they have the body of a dog n we are lucky enough to have a body of a human...

so please treat u dog as a being just likeu treat other human beings... u will soon find he is the best friend ever...far far better than ur human friend..at times..

dun give up...keep tryin ...u may have him back b4 u realise it....

First of all, u shudnt be scared of ur own dog. They can detect fear very well. If he does something wrong u must scold him in a strict manner...show him's who's the boss!!!Wink

I have a Rottie too and we bond very well cos I always play with him (though he's very strong and sometimes I get blue black all over my bodyPirate)

Anyway, why did u get a Rottie in the first place if ur scared of it?Not everyone can handle them well u noe. They can turn aggresive if they are not trained properly.

Re: [qstee] A rottweiler owner that scares of rottweiler!!!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

I feel quite sad when I read about people who get rottweilers without doing research first and think whether the dog is suitable for them. This goes for all breeds of dogs but especially BIG working dogs.

I must admit I was a novice when I bought my first rottweiler when I move to Sabah. Scared of being in a strange place which seem to have as many indons & filipinos as locals, I have found the face of the rottweiler very reassuring and it gave me a sense of security.

Alas, she was too friendly and despite her fierce face, she was the friendliest dog you ever come across. That was when I got myself another rottweiler. I have spent a lot of time and effort training and teaching my dogs and the effort certainly paid off. No such incident as dog running out of the house. Believe me, nothing is scarier than a rottweiler running wild on the road. They are both obedient, quiet and well behaved. Always obey commands, share their food and treats and about everything else.

I am now back in KL and brought my 2 furkids with me. No regrets getting them and i have been converted into a lifelong rottweiler lover now. I have had many breeds before but I found that the loyalty and love my rotties have shown me surpasses anything I had ever experienced before.

It is not too late to bond with your dog. If you feel uncomfortable with it, he will show you the same. Dogs have very good sense of feeling and know whether you are a genuine dog lover, scared of it or dislike it.
