currently have two dogs at home. shandy the lab is back in seremban while dingo the dalmation is with me in kl.
here's the situation. dad plans to get a gsd as a companion in sban to accompany shandy and him. u see he's a fan of gsd. been trying to get one for past few years but to no avail due to bad dealing with breeders previously. wondering if there's any trusted breeders around? how much would one cost anyway? pup prefered btw.
The reason is simple. The dogs are produced by just putting a male and a female together to get inpregnated. There is no standard selection to see if the dog has the necessary structure, the necessary bone size and the necessary drives n nerves. Then there is no study in pedigree to see how the sure produces or the dam produces and how their pedigree can match up to give u a calculated success. Breeding is done every heat season meaning 2 times a year. Many puppies produced. Each sold at 1100 and quantity makes up better earnings than quality. None of the puppies needs early socialisation not drive promotions work. Pups are sold as early as 5-6 weeks. Those that are sold by 3 months or more are leftovers. So cost are kept low. Sometimes incest breeding is also done giving u all kinds of genetic problems from poor hips, small heads, light pigmentation and male looking feminin.
Good breeder cannot possibly sell at that price. The breeding dogs are carefully selected and their pedigree are carefully checked. These dogs are worked and excercised in protection work to see their maximum potential. Be sure that the dogs has the quality then careful selection of stud to complement the dam. Then the breeder do early socialisation and some drive promotion. Puppies are graded at 8 weeks and the best are sold after 3 months old. All these are costs but a good breeder must first have passion for the breed. In other words, a good hobbist with strong passion for the dog make better breeders than bigtime commercial dog factory.

Another thing to think abt is the relativity between the 2. Say the breeder quoted RM 2k for a pup. If the pup is of good quality ,then the pup would be cheap. If the pup's quality isnt that good,RM 2k would be a rip-off.
since you're into this topic, how can u actually tell whether it's from miller or not? any difference to spot??
i brought one from a vet in sban.. all my dogs are under him. anyway, he was listed as mka seremban breeder as well. ee si chong. the pup cost me 1500.. haven't had a single clue about the pup's bloodline. is there anyway to check it? all i was told there's a litter of 8 or 9. all names starting with T.. there's a microchip number here though...
reading your entry above, mine was delivered to me at the age of 5 weeks.. the reason given was the owner sell it as wholesale or some shite.. does this means there are gonna be problems on the dog in future??

Just my 2 cents
hahahah....tht is why the buyer must know and deal with trusted source. If a dog is good and have excellent backing n drives 3000-5000 is still considered cheap.

Simple. Get the breeder to tell u the history of this dog and their 5 generation ancestor one by one and why he makes this breeding of this sire n dam. Then ask him if he worked the dog himself? Then ask him to show off a bit in working his dog.
Puppy miller will give u the dumb shock look when u asked the questions.....
I think the most they will answer u is.....errr....dont worry lah. This one got cert one...got microchip one. Champion line......I could go on but they will always talk very generally and generally means sales talk. You will know it when u hear it

This already tells u how committed the owner/breeder is in his breeding. Need I say more? His motivation is just to breed and sell puppies and couldnt care less about the socialisation of the puppies nor who these puppies goes to. Gimme money and take the bloody puppy will ye....

I dont know for sure but the chances will be very high with this kind of breeding practise. Its all depends on your luck.

depends on him. If he wants to get rid of them(which I think is the case),then yea,he *should* be selling it cheap. But then again,if there's a chance to con the buyer and earn more profit,y not. ,-._,-. \/)"(\/ (_o_)
Do u take a baby from the mother 1 month after giving birth? Observe the animals development and at every age group they learn different things from different source. From birth to 4 weeks they learn to sense for heat n to a certain extent scent of the mother and siblings. They feel their way around by sense even before eyesight. This is a phase where their crucial development will be guided by instinct and motherly care.
From 4 weeks to 8 weeks, they will roll and play around with their own siblings. Puppy bitings, pushing, kicking and fight for the breast milk teaches them how to utilise their fours and starting survival instinct and social rankings.
8weeks - 16 weeks the puppies venture more into social pack and does more learning from the environment, chasing grasshopper, shadow fighting with tall grass, chasing anything that moves including their siblings. These will develop their prey and play plus strengthen the social packing order.
The soonest any puppies can be taken from the mother is 8 weeks to allow natural development and protection/immunity from sickness comes from the breast milk. Any earlier than that the pups have very high degree of underdeveloped instincts, poor immunity to sickness, etc.

what if the pups r 2 weak n the breeder wants 2 sell it? will he sell it cheap 4 the pups?
A breeder whom wants to sell the pups sooner and thereby selling them cheaper are in the breeding for the fast profits clearly. A breeder whom cares for the puppies want to see how these pups developed and which pups are suitable for which type of owner.
Selling pup younger is also better for millers because they dont have to pay for more food to feed the pups. So to them cut the cost and take the cash first is clearly the aim. Unfortunately we see most in Malaysia doing this with only a very small handful dedicated ones.
