Some questions:
1) Is 11 months too old to begin training?
2) Is there any formalized classes?
3) Will training alter her behaviour in the conformation ring?
4) I live in Puchong. Where can I attend such training?
5) Can she be titled (if she is good enough)?
Hope that some one can advise. Thanks!
1. never too old to teach/train the dog, at 11 months is just nice to start some manwork....provided u have some foundation for it and most important the control or OB
2. there are group of people train together at azman's place or like what Pol said early in the morning before the formal OB classes start at Padang Merbuk
3. schh training will not break your dog in the show ring, is about channel theri natural drives into the desirable behaviour.
4. refer to number 2
5. you are the one that should answer this....do u have enough time and committed enough for the training and the time u spend with her for a better bonding.....

Hi Boon/ Poluxx,
Thanks for taking the time for replying my mail. Appreciate it. Boon, thanks for the info. In relation to question 5, I understand the amount of effort and time needed is a lot. This is something that I will take into consideration before embarking on formalised training.
However, my main question is whether there is an authorised body/persons that can award such titles in Malaysia, if the dog is good enough. If there is, whether it is recognised in other countries. Just my curiousity. Kendz GSDs Rule!

my understand is non of the so called local judges qualified to do this....when they have the first formal trial, the oversea judges will be invited......those judges must be FCI/SV qualified judges in order for the titles u put to your dog to be recognised world wide.
For now....if u want, u can bring them to thailand and take part of the SV/FCI Schh trial for the recignition. One of the forum member (Fred Al now he is one of the two judges that qualified to award SV/FCI recognised titles in Thai).

Boon,
I noticed that there is mention of Schutzhund in the website. Is this indication that this will now be a recognised part of MKA dogsport? If so, is there a commitee formed to push/ promote this activity to the other members/public?
Also (open to anyone),
What is the latest development with the GSD Chapter? Sorry for the ignorance. I really don't know and would like to know. Kendz GSDs Rule!

Hi Kendz,
To keep things short.
Schutzhund as a dogsport is now sanctioned by MKA and their members can train with their working dogs and even compete in the WUSV and FCI championships.
Last February there was an SV working/show judge in town who could award BH/Sch/Koerung titles but nobody was ready.Instead S'pore GSD Club did their 1st Sch test. In future we can make the same arrangements to bring a working judge when you and your dog is ready. We are building the numbers before we can formalise the group. If you have the time, bring your dog out. You may discover abt the handler and dog relationship in a different way.

Hi Azman,
Thanks for replying. Understand from Poluxx that there is an impromptu training every Sunday morning at Padang Merbok. What time does it start? I would like to have a view of what happens in a session.
Managed to get a copy of Schutzhund: Theory and Training Methods by Susan Barwig last weekend at MPH. Have been reading the book, good book IMHO but like they say; Can't beat the real thing!
My dog is currently kept at my parents home in Perak while waiting for my own place in Puchong to be completed. She should be back in Puchong by year end. Currently she is undergoing Obedience training with MKA in Ipoh every Sunday. Most Sundays I will be there.
Would like to have a look this Sunday if possible. Kendz GSDs Rule!

Hi Pollux,
If there's 3 or more dogs that meets the requirements and ready, it can be arranged. While we are at it maybe do the others as well. The SV judges normally travels thru asia during the 1st half of the year and it will not be too costly if they are around southeast asia. Is your dog ready ?
How's the JB team doing ?
Maybe we can organise a mock trial and see if we have the fundamentals correct before bringing in SV judges. I think there's enough people around who understands the sport who can guide those interested. We need these activities to create awareness and interest.

Hi Azman,
I thk it will be a good idea to have a mock trial, U said it best ...." more activities create more awareness & more interest "
JMO, I thk most of the JB's gang can tackle the BH ex wt no problem but as for Sch trial, I thk only Peter's dog can qualify for now
unfortunately my dog is not ready for ScH...I thk even BH will be a problem wt him, .....I dun thk he can pass the" down-stay" exercise (out of sight) .... as he is not very social and too dog aggressive .... currently I have stop the sleeve work (which is not a problem for him), so for now just concentrating in socialising, game play & obed .....wt the help of Peter's and the rest of the gang of course. But once he pick up his social skill ...then I will definitely give BH a shot , . . . followed by ScH (...if he has what it takes)
I hope the mock trial will come soon enuf, and maybe for the moment we should approach regional judges which is more approachable and maybe less costly . . . just to kickstart the whole thing.

Polluxx,
Its good that you have a team now. Sch needs a good team. Training alone at home just cant get you very far. I'm trying to build one in KL hopefully we can have a friendly match sometime. hehehhe...
Our northern kakis are a bit quiet these days.. If they can be more active,
we'll have more to work with.
Don't rush your dog in things. You'll probably make more mistakes along the way.( I did)...
I'm OK with anybody for judging as long as they are sanctioned but before that let's try to see if we can do the long down first...

my sentiments exactly, . . , I believe quite a no. of them are very knowledgeable . . . if only they will just come together get something going in the North. It will be a strong boost to the interest of ScH in our country.
So to all the Northerners (incl Perak) who reading this, ... time to step forward and do something . . .
Cheers

There was an FCI working judge who awarded about 10 dogs their BH and another, SchH A last week. He also judged the SK Lim SchH Trial held in Ipoh on 5/8/07. Hope you guys were aware...It would be a pity if you weren't. The more participants, the better.
Maybe you guys can try next year
But yes,it is now possible to title our dogs locally. Hope that is motivation enough to train. ,-._,-. \/)"(\/ (_o_)
