MKA Membership - New Member Can't Post

What happen after you've paid up registration fee with MKA and they've acknowledge with a return receipt? Do we get just that or there are some 'benefits' or 'privilege' that we get from becoming a member? Do we even get a membership number?

Yes there's a membership number....when did u apply your membership? They will send u a card with your name and membership number on it....the benefits that I know of is you get the magazine 'Berita Anjing' periodically, enroll your dog into MKA's obedience class, take part in comformation shows and obedience trials. You can call up MKA and check on your membership status if u still haven't receive your membership card yet after some time.

Further to that, you can also get access to reference materials such as journals from other countries' kennel clubs and video library of dog shows and other useful information.

Thanks Spaniel,

That's what i thought initially, but all that got was just a hand written receipt. I have to say, I was rather disappointed after enrolling my dog for obedient training and enrolling as a member. Now that I know, I will give them a call on Monday morning. Thanks.

Hi Gina,

I think it was back in November as Ms Yeoh mentioned that if Jaz wants to attend the obedient class, I must first sign up to be a member with MKA for a fee of about RM150 and another RM100 for registration of the obedient class training. Till now, I've received NOTHING except for the hand written receipt. I've really got to give MKA a call on Monday, but the problem is, I think I've even lost the small slip of receipt! gosh!

Hi jaz,

if you registered with MKA and you got a receipt, you should be ok... just phone them up if you hear nothing from them shortly before next course starts (i think it starts mid feb after CNY).

I was very anxious first time I signed up for those ob classes too, but they had my name and both my dogs down and didnt tell me starting date till a few days before.

Re: [luckey] MKA Membership - New Member [In reply to] Can't Post

Ehh... i thought it's two seperate issue? what i was told was that in order for me to sign up Jaz for the ob training, i need to be a member of MKA for a fee of RM150 which i've already send it the cheque, then i'll pay the trainer who conduct the ob class directly another RM100 for the class? isn't this right? So even if MKA didn't send me any news letter or forms (just like now) i can still continue with the ob class, am i right?

No, you pay the RM100 to MKA, not to the trainer. They need to enrol you in the class, as they are the ones doing the coordination (how many ina class, who goes in what class under what trainer, etc). If you sign up Monday, you should still be ok. Just say you heard it got filled up really fast and you want to sign up even though your membership card hasnt come through yet. They should be ok with that.

Yes u can still continue with the class as long as MKA has already issue u a receipt for your payment....what u shd do now is call MKA up and get your membership number by phone....by now they shd hv a membership number issued to you, only thing is they hv not managed to send u your membership card yet....I remember mine took quite awhile too before it reached me....I too got my membership number first....with that number you can enroll for the next class.

Re: [ginl] MKA Membership - New Member [In reply to] Can't Post

How come this wasn't required at all when i first sign up for the class? could it be that the procedure in Penang and KL are slightly different as the trainer rejected my cheque and ask me to pay in cash for the class instead and she didn't ask for any membership number at all. Now the the class in Penang is going to end soon, I suppose we'll just be inform when the next intake is going to be and just take my dog to the same place and pay the trainer, right?

Well yeah i suppose in Penang the grps are very much smaller compared to KL so they are more flexible in that sense but i remember i needed to submit my MKA membership number in the application form for my basic class....if they allow u to continue the class without your membership number then even better for u, right? So i heard the CGC test in Penang is coming up soon....how is Jaz doing? Think she's ready for it? I can still picture her swimming the other day with her hair all floating around her like a flower! Laugh

Yea, the exam is coming up soon, that's why today's training was quite relax.... Nah, I think Jaz needs to attend a few more lesson before i get her to take the exam, don't think she's quite ready... she's easily distracted... but at least after all this, she barks less now and starts to play around with other dogs... Her from my sister that Jaz actually run about and played with Yoda and Yippie... but every now and then, she will still bark a little but not as bad as she was...THANK GOD!

So I guess I'll just ask Ms Yeo when is the next intake and I'll just continue taking her there then... btw, do you have any idea when it will be?

That is great! What progress a dog can make just by socialising with other dogs...I remember when I was there she didn't play with the others at all, just stuck by your sister's side and barked at the others heheh...

The new batch of pre-novice class usually starts after you complete your CGC....ours started the week after the dogs graduated frm the test so guess yours shd be the same....good luck!

Now that Jaz is going to skip the test this time, does that means that she will redo the whole class again? Until she pass, she will move on to another class?

You'll hv to check with Ms Yeoh on this....the pre-novice class is more or less the same as the basic only thing is the commands especially the heeling are more refined and precised....sit stay and down stay will be longer and additional of the 'finish' command after recall....i'm not sure whether they'll allow u to proceed to pre-novice if u haven't passed your CGC....you know what....u can just go ahead and take the CGC...you'll never know, Jaz might just surprised u on that day...that's what happened with Biscuit...I didn't expect him to get thru at all but I just went ahead and took the test anyway since you don't hv to pay any additional fees and surprised me he did.....so go ahead! Take the test and enjoy the experience Smile

errmm okay, we'll discuss about this with Eve.. i guess it would be a good idea to let Jaz try, never try never know, but is Jaz qualified to take the test? are there any requirement that we must fulfill before enrolling for the exam?

Yah if i'm not mistaken there are about 10 tasks u hv to go thru....the trainers will go thru with u step by step what u r suppose to do on that day before the exam day....since the cgc test is very near they will be running thru the mock test with u very soon....u can also go to mka site and find the list of tasks there too under cgc....one of them is for your dog to sit by your side and they'll bring an outside dog around you and your dog shdn't act aggressively or try and hv a go at that dog....just make sure Jaz doesn't start barking when the dog passes by Tongue

oh no... that would be difficult... i don't think at this stage, Jaz would let other dogs pass by without making a scene! We'll see how it goes then.. thanks for your advise.

Re: [ginl] MKA Membership - New Member [In reply to] Can't Post

Hie Gina,

I've called up MKA this morning and a lady told me it's NORMAL to wait for up to 4 months for approval. WHAT APPROVAL??? she ask me to call in again later and speak to another lady for further clarification. Since I was quite busy today, I didn't manage to call back. Anyway, my sis mentioned that the CGC test will be judge by Teck Poh... so not sure whether we want to let Jaz take the exam or not...

Yah CGC is conducted by Teck Poh....well if u feel that Jaz is not ready for the test then u can always wait for the next round....but there really isn't any harm to just try for the test just to gain the experience.

I forgot exactly how long i had to wait for mine, i remember i waited quite a bit as well for my first Berita Anjing magazine to arrive...even then i hadn't received my membership card yet and they already started sending me forms for comformation shows...i think the processing of new memberships are slow coz they are still doing it manually...i visited MKA before and it looked that way....did u manage to get your membership number frm the lady? Normally they wud assign membership numbers quite early.
