hey all! i've just discovered this site and spent the whole night pouring over pages n pages of doggie info n lore... thanks to all the informative (and i must say entertaining) forums, i've missed a night of sleep! jeez, where were YOU when i just got my puppy (first time owner mah!) and was climbing up the walls going nuts and worrying my poor little head off for the fate of my precious one???!?!? sigh... at least i now know of a place to turn to the next time my furball perplexes me (my furball btw, is a 1 1/2 year old, female english cocker spaniel by the name of bowie... named by my mom after david bowie... don't ask why).
like i've mentioned before, i'm a first time dog owner, thus very inexperienced..... and i'm a MUSLIM! am i the first here?
kudos mr webmaster sir! although i would seriously rethink on marketing strategy yah? i mean, how can you deprieve other dog owners knowledge of this website??
anyways, i can honestly say i haven't been this excited about 'discovering' a site since digital voodoo......
Welcome sooonie to this forum. Hey , we are glad to have a Muslim dog lover on board. We are of course pleased with the fact that you managed to find this web sites.
I believe u r the first muslim dog owner here...and yet another ECS owner....the number of ECS and Miniature Schnauzers are neck to neck now lol....a very warm welcome to you!
i can't believe within hours of posting my msg, i've been welcomed so warmly... i'm overwhelmed! it's nice to know that there are so many pooches out there with such loving homes n owners. suprisingly, i know quite a number of muslim dog lovers although not many actually own dogs. i just happen to be lucky 'cos my mother is chinese n doesn't give a damn... although my father's side of the family now won't step into my house for fear of the dog! isn't that just crazy??! i mean, my dog is the friendliest little critter out there, although she tends to get over excited around new people n places. sigh! the beginner's obedience classes by mka sounds like my salvation though. can i come with my bowie? she ain't exactly a puppy as i understand most of the other beginner's are... malu lah i! hahaha n wow i didn't know there were so many ECS owners out there! is there a club or something?? i'm actually looking for a bf for bowie... but i've no clue as to if she's ready or not. advice anyone? n i've heard of a new breed called spoodle (spaniel + poodle)... very very cute but only in australia. anyone else heard about it or breeding this new variation?
It is always nice know that not all our muslim friends have doggie phobia. My vet is a very nice friendly and helpful chap, he's muslim. Our chief obedience trainer in MKA is also a muslim. You are not alone! I regard the local bias against canines is more culturally based rather than religious..
However, let's look beyond this and talk about your furkid..Bowie. Yes you can take her for the obedience class even though she is fully grown. There is no age limit to learn. Just check out the website at for further info on obedience training.. If you are really keen, better book a place early as the begineer class are normally very full. If you are free this Sunday evening, why not drop by Padang Merbuk with Bowie and see the classes in progress. Weather permitting there are 2 sessions..4-5PM and 5-6PM. I will be in the 5-6PM. Look for a tall guy wearing a black baseball cap and a Miniature Schnauzer!
Yes 1.5 yrs old is not too late for obedience training....you will enjoy it as much as your dog coz there will be so many other dogs for him to socialise with and you'll be beaming with pride when your dog does what he's told during classes....yah there are a lot of ECS owner in this forum....if you attend one of our monthly gatherings you'll get to meet them and and compare which cocker has the most floppy set of ears
Welcome to the forum, and glab to have you to join the big family here. If time permit, why don join our monthly gathering, the next scheduled party for our belove furkids will be on 25/1/2003.
You can check out more on the Event Section of this forum.

y'know, ever since i joined this forum i've been paying more attention to Bowie, grooming her at all hours and stuffing her with treats. poor thing's bewildered by all the attention!
yeah a minority of malays are opening up to the idea of dogs as companions but i suppose it'll be an uphill battle to get other malays to accept dogs. but honestly, kids no matter chinese, malay or indian can be so cruel to dogs! i actually caught some neighbourhood kids taunting my baby when she was just a puppy n now bowie absolutely hates children n starts trembling at the mere sight of them. breaks my heart...
i'm sorry i missed u on sunday arthur. had an open house to attend, but i'm looking forward to pop in next sunday for a looksie n give bowie a chance to meet other dogs. checked out mka's website btw, n from what i understand, i have to be a member to join the class right? what are the other benefits of joining? and my poochie isn't registered... does that matter?

oh i know bowie's got a pretty fine set of floppies! such a problem to get them clean after every meal... sigh. i was just admiring all of the doggie pictures here. all so cute wan! hei geram! tell me about your dogs guys... are they perfect little angels or perfect little devils like bowie?
ooh a gathering huh? sounds great! how many people n doggies usually show up for these soirees? don't know if i'll be able to control bowie amongst all those dogs though. we need to polish up on our obedience skills before we attempt anything like that. hehehe

The gathering/outing is a good chance for you to socialize you furkid with the others. Normally there are around 20 peoples and between 30 dogs maybe.
Do come and join us if you can make it.
