Hi Drew,

Akita is not banned in Malaysia except no further importation of Akita is allowed for the time being.

Cheers

Do you know why further imports are banned?

Quote
Akitas are large, powerful dogs with substantial bone and musculature. The broad chest and neck serve as a solid base for the Akita's large head, the Akita's most distinguishing feature. The broad skull and the short muzzle form a blunt triangle when viewed from above. The massive head in combination with the small triangular shaped eyes and small erect ears give the Akita an intimidating, yet dignified, expression.

The actual reason why DVS ban importation of Akita, I am not sure and you will have to check with them.

But if you look at the breed description of Akita, you will be able to guess that the ban possibly due to the fact that Akita is a powerful, mascular and very initimidating dog.

I think rotties are more intimidating looking and sounding... dunno about the breed description of that though. But do akitas have a history of violence? Also, if they are banning imports, why are they not banning local breeding?

You think maybe its possible that there have been many cases of irresponsible breeding in particular countries overseas which introduced an aggressive or dangerous strain into the breed, thus precaution is taken by banning imports?

When did the ban start?

khoobg, hi. I think the reason akita importation is banned in Malaysia is that they r very aggressive towards other dogs, i took him 2 the park at 12 weeks, and he try and attack every dog we walk near, not just bark but pull really hard on lease and jump up too. also in my area im not allowed to join any doggy training classes, which is sadFrown

oh that's a shame... you mean in UK they also ban akitas from dog clubs? Can you show your dog / akitas in conformation shows?

hi luckey! It is a shame that you cannot take it to clubs and training. In my area you cannot do that but in some areas where the population of akita's is high there is a possibility. We had to drive to the other side of the country to get Keto; it was worth it though!!

Keto is three and a half months and you can already feel his pull! My sister was walking him and he tangled around her while wearing the leash and started pulling and she fell down!!!!WinkWinkSlySlySlySlySlySlySlyTongueTongue

I wonder what will happen when he's fully grown!Unsure

I'll post a few more photos soon!!
