Hi ,
You can place some toy in the crate. Think carefully, the DVS will have no control on the stuff that you are going to place in the crate but you must of course meet airlines requirement.
The small water container is normally come with the crate when you purchase it. I think airline ppl will help you to secure that container on the door of the crate and then attach a funnel on the door (external) with a small tube leading to the container. Water will be added to that container from time to time during the flight. Feeding is definitely minimal during the flight.
The estimated cost of clearing your Mack in KLIA as follow :-
Pay about RM 25.00 to ecommerce department for the preparation of custom papers
Pay RM 25.00 (RM50.00 after midnight) to DVS's office at KLIA
Pay about RM 25.00 to MAS for Delivery Order
Pay about RM 75.00 for quarantine your dog in Quarantine Station.
The crate was given by a friend, it didn't come along with the water container. I tried to search for it in local store but can't get any that seems able to be "attached" tot he crate, Did you mean life something for "birds" that can let him suck the water? Do you have any picture to show me how it should look like?

I will try to shoot a digital photo on that tonight and post it up to show you. BTW, please check with the airline and may be they have those standard thing for you and you may not have to buy it yourslef.
Khoo, Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your help. I've just went to shop 2 local stores, but yet to find the similar container/funnel. If i can't get anything like that, I guess i have no choice but go with those small but deep bowl for water, and try to find those tubes/funnel for birds.
Mack will fly back to M'sia on 3rd January. I've got the import permit, and just brought him to the local vet for check up and to get the health certificate.
*BUT (i don't know why there's always a "but") I can't have the cert ready by today! they have to send the forms and check (payment can only made by check) and other papers to the state office in order to get the foreign certificate, then once they approve it, they'll send the cert to the vet and then i go and pick up. Hey, doesn't it sounds like at least a week or so for the procedures??? and they require the cert to be valid no more than 7-10days??? GOSH~
Anyway, things still need to be solved, just a bit ma-ma-fan-fan i wasn't being told about all these, they just told me what i need is bring the dog in and get the cert. it's not my fault, so they'll have to pay for the "pos laju" and make sure i'll get it by the 2nd jan.
Oh yeah~ Mack also need to be Microchipped too. which i wasn't aware when i went tru the related offical websites. I'm not sure if he still need to get another chip in M'sia? from MKA? Poor Mack~! He was being shaved a BIG SPOT on his back , an inch away from his neck. No more handsome look ler.... BALD now.
Nobody told me he need to be microchipped in order to be imported. (?)
Just to share my "last minute" preparation-experience here so that others won't repeat the same "mistakes".
If Mack is a pedigree dog and if you want to register Mack locally with MKA, The Malaysian Kennel Association, you must quickly apply for EXPORT PEDIGREE from AKC (I guess). The Microchip number need to be on the EXPORT PEDIGREE of course.
When you return from US, you need the Export Pedigree when you are registering Mack locally. Please make sure that whoever clear Mack on your behalf keep all documentation such as Airway Bill, Receipt for payment made to DVS & Quarantine Station, Copy of Import Permit, Health Certificate. You need all these for your submission to MKA locally.
Um. I just signed those papers and they have sent everything to the "state office". I galnced at it once before i signed, but didn't pay attention to the Export Pedigree thingy... or any AKC registered ID on the paper. I don't have chance to keep a copy of those papers before they sent coz they were rushing to post ot for me. Now, the chip is already inserted. I don't know what's "stored" inside the chip. But there's a certificate to verify that Mack is "chipped" and there's a ID number on the cert as well as the tag hanging on his collar now, but I'm not sure is the ID number same as AKC registration ID? or just a reference number?
I've never learned about this "export pedigree". If i'm not going to have mack register to MKA, then it won't harm anything without the Export Pedigree registration, right? Or, it is a MUST?
Spoke to someone who flew back his cat from Toronto a few years back. After the quaranteen, the cat lost about 5 pounds, he said the condition of the quaranteen place was horrible. Maybe you can check with Khoo about this. With warm regards, CY Phang

When the rules required that your imported animal be quarantined, you have no choice and will have to go through the quarantine process. What I did was when my dog was there, I visit him everyday to walk him and feed him a meal myself. Teh condition there is not too good but there is little thing that you can do. Since Mack is an adult, he should be able to go through the process without much problem.
YES, I'm ready for it, hope does Mack too. It's okay that the environment of the quarantine station not too good as long as it's not that bad to cause any illness or discomfort to Mack. What to expect? it's not a HOME though..... The most important thing afterall is: I can get Mack back home SMOOTHLY. no problem getting tru airlines, custom, and the quarantine station. Other than that, hopefullt there will be no any HIDDEN charge that I'm nto aware of NOW.
Thanks for everyone's help here!
Will let you guys know about what happen during the flight and the quarantine period later on.
Would love to have you at our next gathering on Jan 25 if you can make it...! Check the events calendar section for details... With warm regards, CY Phang

Thanks for the invitation! I wanted to meet you all ever since I've joined this site. If I could get back to KL by 23 Jan, Probably I'll come not only with Mack, but Max! (Max is a Pitbull + Mastiff mix).
Airline staff will add water to the water container during the flight and however often they do it, I am not sure.
When one of my dogs reach KL a few months ago, the water bowl was filled with kibble and I think they added kibble during the last section of the flight. I guess only water is given to the dog during most of the travelling time.
I thought dogs are not allowed to eat during flight? So, shall I prepare some kibbles, say keep them in a plastic container? (so the staff could feed my dog whenever it's necessary)
I am not sure MAS will feed your Mack during the flight but there is no harm to prepare some for them. Mack definitely is able to survive only with water for the 18 Hours flight
I think the airline staff add kibble into our dog RON's water bowl at that time was because he was still a young pup at 4 months +.
Mack was doing fine during the road trip, 7 hours drive from my town to Minneapolis. What a big relief!. Hope he will be doing good for the flights as well. We went to Petsmart just now, Mack behaved like "dai-heong-lei"..... he sniff and sniff around the whole shop. What a wonderful time to shop with him together, really my first time orh~ But, I didn't get the stainless steel bowl that could hang on the crate dog, I only able to find a pair of plastic bowl, also can hang-on the crate door, but don't feel like it's secured and deep/big enough for Mack. Will do last minute shopping tomorrow morning before departure.
Anyway, thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!
Bonney my yellow lab wish Mack has a present and safe trip back 'home'.

Hi All! Mack was doing very well during his road trip and the 7hours flight from Minneapolis to LA. Everything went smoothly and he was just OKAY. When transit in LA, I managed to wlk him at a garden just nexty to the international airport. He was so excited for the fresh air and the greens! Ya~ that was the time for him to pee & poo. But the MAS service wasn't that satisfied.... i mean when we were at the ticketing counter they don't really treat my Mack Mack as "VIP" (very important pet) as those americans will do. But he still "perform" very well being.... gave me quite some "faces" in the airport! Hope he'll be fine for the 18 hours flight. (crossing my fingers~)
I'm planning to go home soon, miss Mack so much! hope i could bring mack and meet you all soon!
We are all looking forward to seeing Mack and yourself in our gatherings soon. Oh yes, Lee Ron boy asked me to post this message to Mack...
Rdgs Arthur..
PS..When Mack finally reaches our shores, can we save this thread for future reference? Sort of like a FAQ for our forum members. This should be great info for those wishing to bring their furkids across international borders. Webmaster Khoo/Mack..whatda ya say?
Oh Yes, this thread will remain on this forum and future posts asking for help on importation of dogs into Malaysia will be directed to this thread for information.
