yes, both of my dogs have little ticks attached to their ears but not as serious as the dog in the picture. their bodies also but not as much. i think it's because they move about in my garden and sometimes sleep on the grass too. now even my rabbit have it.
before this, i have never heard of ticks before...i thought they are fleas ( embarassing ). so i pulled them out with my fingers and crushed them to death. so far, my dogs and i are alright-don't have any health problems.
why should humans use forceps to pull them out? is it because they can affect our health if we touch them?
i use a type of fleas and ticks shampoo on them but the ticks keep on coming back. i'm not sure how to control the ticks population in my garden.

well i think it's beccause some of the tick related diseases can be transmitted from the dog to us..so it's safer to use forceps. i din know about that at first either..and used to just pull them out with my hands.. you just have to be careful of it yourself and wash your hands thoroughly after touching ticks and your dog (if you are applying medication).
have you tried frontline? you only need to apply once a month. there's this other tick killing solution that i used to use..but i forgot the name..it's really smelly but it is effective in kiling ticks on my dog. as for the garden, i still haven't found any good solution for that... some members suggest keeping chickens (no kidding!).. but i think if you go around pharrmacies and asking them, they might be able to recommend a good solution to kill the ticks in your garden.

hi~
Currently, I have alot of problems with ticks, so I bought the pet shop's advice and sprayed my garden with tick/flea solution. As I watched the centipede died slowly, I thought this solution might killed the predators that kept ticks/fleas in check too. So I think that will be the last time I will ever use it. I read praying mantis will help, just wonder where to buy them.

You can try usng this tick-wash called Bayticol. It is extremely effective and does not cause your dog to get sick. It is highly recommended by my vet.

praying mantis?? to feed off the ticks? i think sometimes u can get them from petshops.. sometimes u just have to go catch them..eheh i was thinking if there were any insects that feed on ticks..that'd be the best solution to all the ticks/fleas in my garden as well.. no checmial solution..just let nature do what it's best.. =) how's sunny doing now?
