Beagle missing in Damansara Utama Can't Post

Hi Everyone,

Picnic, my 8-month old, lemon-and-white, female Beagle is missing. I was walking her this evening at around 5 pm when she jerked the leash away. This time I couldnt get her back when she ran away. This Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya area is between Uptown Damansara and Kg Kayu Ara. She was last seen running away from the community hall towards the Sprint highway. We have combed the area and the surroundings but without luck. If you chance to spot a lone, white and beige coloured Beagle, perhaps with a leash trailing along, please call me at 016-2761717. Thanks, Jay

Hi Nathalie and all reading,

Good News - Picnic returned at 8am, phew.

We walked and walked around the neighbourhood again this morning. And bumped into a woman who asked about Sparky and then when she learned that Picnic ran off yesterday evening, she said, 'she is in my house'. It was off the direction which I saw Picnic run towards yesterday. The woman said Picnic was all drenched and entered when the gate was opened. She was nicely bathed was and fed till her tummy looked like a basketball, hahahha. But whining last night. Well, Sparky and Picnic seems glad to be chasing each other again. Will get a big box of chocolate for the savior. Thanks and best regards,J

Hi Ming Yang, thanks. Really relieved Picnic is fine. I wouldnt mind if she found another home, but really dread the thought of her run over at the highway or attacked by strays. Now I am wondering what I can do to prevent it happening again. Her temperament is such that if given half a chance, she will bolt and run off. Sparky is so different and will follow off-leash and respond to a recall. Maybe I have to lay a doggie buffet everytime I open the gate, hahahah. Best regards,J

Re: [jaytan] Beagle missing in Damansara Utama [In reply to] Can't Post

ya... losing the dog and they found a good home is one thing but kena hit / run over by a car, treated badly by kids and bully by the strays is another. Last time when i lost my dog the poodle, i was praying that she found a good home to go to rather than kena caught by those puppymillers or kena mauled by the strays. oh well....

I guess next time u gotto really take some treats with u whenever u go out so that you can ask her to come back with the food as bait LOL...

cheers,
minglmy

Hi again Ming Yang, sorry to hear about your poddle.

Actually I always carry some food with me when I walk the doggies. But our pampered puppies are quite well fed and never that hungry, right? So sometimes Picnic will refuse the treat and go her own way. That is very frustrating. I guess I have to work more on their recall. Get some really really enticing grub and maybe have to walk them separately, to get their attention during training. It can be very distracting to try to train 2 dogs together. Best regards,J

hi, cheer up. When it seemed that we would never see Picnic again, and we had awful thoughts of what could have happened to her, I just told my children that we will assume that she has found another home, and that is not bad at all. As it turns out, that assumption would have been correct if she hadnt returned. Best regards,J

Hi Evie, Beagles are pretty small dogs and no Hercules. But a jerk when you are not prepared is all it takes for them to get free. We cant lock and chain them up out of concern either. And also dont want to break their spirit and individuality. I guess if they want to go their own way it is difficult to stop them. Best regards, J

Congratulations on your reunion with Picnic. Snowy ranway from the house also last week when one of the family member forgot to close the gate. It was raining heavily and I couldnt find her back after 5 minutes of searching. Out of a sudden, I saw her playing with a small kid inside someone's compound. It happened that she went into ppl's house when their gate was ajar. It was just a few houses ahead of mine. She was all wet and yet she was so happy running around. I scolded her and she gave me that kind of 'Its not my fault, you opened the door yourself' look. Thank god that I've found her. The feeling of losing her was hard to describe and I truly understand how one feels when he cant find his dog back.

its ok... happenned long time ago adi...

You know, walking the dogs separately is a definitely a good idea ! give it a try and i'm sure the dogs will be happy that they get ALL ur attention to them only during the walk instead of fighting n sharing it together Cool the only thing is the owner (that's u Tongue) will have some sore feet afterwards LOL....

cheers,

Re: [a_evie] Beagle missing in Damansara Utama [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Evie, well it started raining during our walk and we were running back home. I was holding both leashes in one hand and dunno how Picnic jerked loose. Did you think I stopped to chat with a beautiful jogger and forgot about the doggies? Heheheh

The poo biz is stable now. If I take them out for a short walk to eleminate before bed time, they will normally hold out till the next morning walk. Their bowel control seems to be improving, maybe cos they are growing older or the training or both. But every 3-4 days they will still bomb the place. That is ok cos I need to wash their area anyway.

I think in a month or two, they should be be more consistent. Meanwhile, I just want to avoid them forming poor pooping habits which may be difficult to correct later. But it is hard work to take them out 3 times a day and can be tiring. Most of the time I just want to retire into my room after dinner and have a quiet evening. Sigh, hope the puppies shape up soon. Best regards,J

keke...beautiful jogger or otherwise...never know mar....

but it sounds good that their poo biz is getting better...any idea whether they still bomb the every 3 or 4 days at the spot because they are hinting that they want you to wash up?

btw, walking a little after u makan sounds good....my kid's sessions are still not that regular but she will hold till i uncrate her....so kinda tough sometimes as her elimination can be anything 10 min after makan to 5 hours after makan!

Re: [a_evie] Beagle missing in Damansara Utama [In reply to] Can't Post

hi Evie, I think the bombing is mostly Picnic's doing. Sparky being the guy will poop whenever I take them out which settles the issue. Picnic is more shy and will try to hold on if she can. Picnic is like your Shalom, sometimes she poops when you take her out and sometimes not. The trouble is sometimes she is urgent when she is indoors. They will clear up by eating the evidence, leaving only the stains which have to be washed off anyway. If I want Picnic to hold till the morning walk, I often have to crate her overnight which I prefer not to. Otherwise she will sneak a private bombing session thinking noone knows. Maybe I will take your suggestion to take them out earlier in the evening after everyone's dinner. Best regards,J

Re: [a_evie] Beagle missing in Damansara Utama [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Evie, Picnic has flown the coop again. You know she ran away Monday but was returned the next day. Well, she ran off again Thursday and has been away for 4 days. We have combed every road in this area thinking that she may have gone into another home again. I have even checked the petshops in Uptown Damansara nearby. The first time my daughters were really sad but this time they seem to accept that it is hard to keep Picnic if she insists on running away at every opportunity. I just hope she finds a good home.

Meanwhile, Sparky has grown really attached to me and begun howling rregularly. He must miss having Picnic's company the whole day. We all try to spend more time with him without spoiling him. He was barking a lot last night and first thing this morning but seems more relaxed later. I hope he settles down and adjusts to being the only dog in the house. Best regards,J

I'm so sad over this. My dog also likes to runaway whenever there is a chance for her to do so. I hope that you will unite with Picnic one fine day, Pls tell Sparky too.

you have her pics? i'll send it out to my kakis there...and put her pics up at my office. a_evie@

i think she probably had a run too far and should be somewhere around...but i would try ss2 and damansara kim, mutiara damansara as well. dogs have this uncanny ability to roam quite far....as one of my dogs taught me. she left sri petaling and we found her in oug!

will keep you folks in my prayers.

Hi Carmine, thanks. Sparky is adjusting although he still howls when he wakes up at 6am. So we have to adjust too. Picnic must have found a new home, being a good looking and healthy doggie. Best regards,J
