"if the dog trying to jump off the chair or run around : they will shout : NO, STAY.

If the dog bark on ppl passby, then they will shout : NO, QUIET/ SHUT UP.

in this case.. what's the point we bring out the dogs? they are just suffer."

Why do you consider teaching a dog to behave in a civilised manner making it "suffer"? If you want your dog to stay wild, then you shouldn't even keep it in the house, leave it as a stray! My husband & I bring our pup out and have trained her to sit quietly under the table when we eat. Although we didn't shout at her or beat her, there was quite a few stern warnings issued during the course of her "training". It wasn't easy for us to eat in peace (we also "suffer", you know!) but then again, teaching human kids is no different!

We have to teach our pets the same way we teach our human kids, whether its socialising or learning to be obedient. Far worse are the owners who don't say anything even when their pet has done something wrong! Or who make stupid comforting noises when their dog growls/barks - this only makes the dog thinks that it's the right behaviour!

Our dogs want nothing more than to please us so we should take the trouble to show them how - not shut them up in the house just because we can't be bothered to discipline them.

Oh ic, I m sorry if my words against u, that’s why I say just open up for discussion. I'm just curious why ppl do that in a chinese restorant, because all the while I'm so silly that thinking a dog is still a dog.Laugh

A kid is a kid, if a kid won’t run, won’t laugh, won’t naughty, I think must be some problems with this kid?Crazy There is school for kids; there is training center for dogs. Trying to ask a dog behave like a patung especially in human eat place is totally not hygiene and I worry others might think we are just trying to show off our dogs?Crazy True we have to socialize our dogs, but probably in a proper place? What u comments is totally argree by me, we should always teach our dog from time to time. I think puppy forum gathering is the best activities for us have a chance to teach our dogs what’s accepted by us? Emm.. What do u think?Smile Probably we should remind ourselves: Chinese food court selling human food. There is no dog food selling there. We love dogs doesn’t means others. We think dogs are part of our family but not others. We should always try to think of others. I'm just worry the more stubborn we are the more dog's right will be restrict. Do proper thing in proper place in the right time. Hopefully more café open up in Malaysia that’s openly welcome both human and dogs, then we can enjoying our meal with no worries of others!SlySly

"A kid is a kid, if a kid won’t run, won’t laugh, won’t naughty, I think must be some problems with this kid?"
- I've met many well-behaved children and dogs so I don't think that civilised behaviour is unusual. Don't forget that children learn from watching adults so if a kid is doing all those things you describe, there's something seriously wrong with the parent!

"Trying to ask a dog behave like a patung especially in human eat place is totally not hygiene"
- Firstly, nobody expects either their child or their dog to be a "patung". However, there's such a thing as civilised behaviour like NOT disturbing others and learning to keep still. Secondly, if you say that the very presence of a dog contaminates the whole place, then you definitely should not own any pets! As long as your dog is not actually using the utensils, there's nothing unhygenic about bringing a dog to a restaurant. After all, blind people with guide dogs do it ALL THE TIME in other countries! In fact, in many Western countries, they encourage pets in certain hospital wards! Are you saying that they're filthy?

"I worry others might think we are just trying to show off our dogs?"
- "Showing off" implies that you go from table to table carrying your dog and telling people how wonderful it is. I've never seen any dog owner do this. If I did, I'd call the doctors!

"True we have to socialize our dogs, but probably in a proper place?"
- Socialising doesn't mean just "playing" - it's knowing how to behave properly in the given circumstance. What is a "proper place" anyway?

"Chinese food court selling human food. There is no dog food selling there. We love dogs doesn’t means others. We think dogs are part of our family but not others. We should always try to think of others. I'm just worry the more stubborn we are the more dog's right will be restrict. Do proper thing in proper place in the right time."
- Food court also doesn't sell breast milk - are you saying that we shouldn't bring babies there? There are also people who can't stand children - are you saying that we should not take our children out of the house in order to "think of others"?

Re: [chaelian] highland vacation for pets [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there chaelian,

If only you can bring your argument to the jabatan Kesihatan and convince them on how hygenic our pets are I'm sure they'd allow our pets to dine with us. It would take a miracle considering first and foremost because we are in an Islamic country. If we were in Vietnam, dogs would be on the menu. Or, how nice it would be to dine next to a rat lover with ten rats as rats are actually very clean animals and intelligent. Or snake lovers (I'd be terrified).Take into account that PETS do not only cover dogs or cats . Personally, I would love it if I could eat with my pup but only with fellow members from puppy.com because all are responsible owners. The fact is there a lot of irresponsible owners in Malaysia and I don't fancy my dog catching a disease from an irresponsible person's dog. For us, our pups are our babies, for others just for protection therefore proper vaccination / upkeep may not be their main priority.

But slowly things are changing in Malaysia. As some members in the forum have said, there's more of us in this forum and the numbers are increasing everyday. With our numbers, someday we could do something and hopefully raise a fund to buy a piece of land for a cafe with kiddie pools for our pups to cool down in and have evening BBQ's for us and our pups to socialize.

Take into account that our country is slowly adapting to the handicapped's needs (which very important). As it is in year 2004, there are many places here that are still not handicapped friendly yet when other countries are more progressed in this area. Which applies to pet owners in that someday, with the eradication of irresponsible dog owners (remember the old lady(dead) and kid bitten by rottis) and aggressive promotion of responsible owners and dog awareness among Malaysians I'm sure our pups will be welcome everywhere. It will be possible, someday, hopefully in our generation.

As for us, our biggest problem is we are Muslim, my husband French and I am Malay. I grew up with Dobermans. According to our religion, we can touch dogs however the saliva must be avoided, my theory is because of rabies in the old days. But this can be remedied by washing the saliva afflicted area with mud or modern translation soap. However nowdays, even dog hair is offending to some Muslims who take it to the extreme. And as you know some are so extreme to the point of almost being insane. But the keyword is some, not all. Once, a stranger with a tudung came up to us to pet our puggy and my Malay friends do not mind as well. Count yourselves fortunate as we cannot afford to sit at a non halal joint with our pup just to be carted away by the JAIS people. You are also fortunate as we have to get by the stigma of Muslim dog owners/ dog lovers which means my relatives are not allowed to visit us at home. But our pup makes it worth it.

Proper training means = MKA CGC trainings.

Proper places means = Place that allow dogs, such as Puppy forum, MKA Training Ground & Dogs shows. (Pls refer to the forum : Dogs friendly plcs)

Please go to padang merbuk for proper social meeting for dogs.

Want to bring your dogs to cafe, bring to Pet Gossip!

Baby = Human

Dog NOT = Human

i.e. Baby NOT = Dog

I tot k.Kemuning has banned dogs? ANyway, I was going thru all the posted msg, and me too am quite frustrated. Very envious of ppl living other countries where they can walk their dogs wherever they want. I used to stay in Spore when i am young and we kept a few silky terriers... we can walk them or bring them wherever we want to... no prob at all. Anyway, this is Malaysia now.

Am so frustrated sometimes that was thinking of getting a nice corner shop which is big enough to set up a mini petshop & a big cafe to serve nice food for both owners & furkids! Mad So, that all ppl like us have a legal place to go instead of seludup-seludup... our kids deserve better than that...

As for the Plan A,B,C..... whichever plan me too fully support... if you do need any help, i will be most willing to help...!

Yup, K.Kemuning just put up the sign banned dogs. Places allow dog don't come easy in Malaysia, we wish all of us treasure the places, and be a responsible dog owner. Wink

Hopefully, someday, some kind developers willing to donate a small piece land for dog lovers.

Re: [gladyslcp] highland vacation for pets [In reply to] Can't Post

After reading this long and tireless thread, I have discovered a few consistent trends in dog ownership issues in Malaysia. And I also have some comments to them.

1) Myth: Malaysia is a Muslim country and therefore dog owners are discriminated against.

B*llocks. I'm currently relocated to Shanghai. You'd think in China, land of dog lovers (both beside & inside a human), it will be easy to raise dogs here. It is not. In fact, the only more difficult place will be in Siberia, where probably not much lives.

Due to irresponsible ownership, the city has passed a law banning all dogs from public areas. This ban includes the road, which means it is impossible to let your dog out of your house legally. And to further deter dog owners, license within the city circle is RMB2k per year (RM1K) and outside the city RMB1k. Compare this with the puny RM10 we pay back home.

So, does the country REALLY want to discriminate? If they do, they'd simply pass a law to ban dogs altogther.

2) Myth: Muslims treat our dogs like lepers.

Rubbish. I have multiple eye-witnesses who will say otherwise.

I have a large breed dog and I have to frequently find new sensory experiences for him to aid in his socialisation. And I stupidly thought it was safe to take him to Pet Safari at Ikano Power Centre. I took him there on two seperate occasions, the second time to prove my first experience wrong but I was deeply dissapointed.

From the moment I exit the lift till the time I return to the car park, all I get are screams, jeers and taunts from men, women, children and the elderly. I own a labrador, not a rottie mind you. And might I also add that only the CHINESE were the only people doing this to us. The were terrified of my labrador but at the same time chose to stand close by and poke and jeer at us. In fact, Muslim shopper quietly and politely scooted away, which is the RIGHT thing to do if you are afraid. The situation was no different in Pet Safari. By then, I had learnt that I had to scream at people so they will understand that they should get out of the way if they fear my dog.

And to further dirty the 'foreign country so nice to dogs' image, I will let you know that by owning a dog in China, you face harrassment from your neighbours daily. People will often complain your dog has bitten them and you will need to pay their medical bills or face prosecution when they report it. You will never win, even if they have no proof.

And really at the end of this all, it all boils down to the fact many Malaysian dog owners are not showing enough responsible onwership to convince anyone to be nice to us. We have to start with 'scooping the poop' and leashing dogs in public areas. I've had comments from people about poo scooping, they say things like "Oh you think we're in France issit?". You have a kid, you scoop his poop, you have a dog, you do the same.

Lastly, we have to stop being childish and putting the blame on the country's official religion. It's time to stop pointing the finger at the word Muslim. We are responsible for the make or break of dog friendly environments and attitudes.

Pardon the rant.

Re: [bunnyears] highland vacation for pets [In reply to] Can't Post

What bunnyears said do make some sense ya know. Most of us with dogs shud indeed change their attitude and u do not expect ppl to change becoz of us. Scooping poo is the 1st step. Next, make sure your dogs do not roam freely outside the compound alone. 3rdly, make sure there would be no dog smell in or outside ur house that ur neighbours had to complain to u. Lastly, always pay respect to others especially our Muslim brothers and sisters. Some non-Muslims would find dogs aggressive no matter how cute they are. Muslims fear of dogs due to their believes. I guessed it is not advisable to bring your dog at shopping complexes such as Ikano unless they hv a private section for dog owners to walk their dogs etc. This is not like the foreign country whereby we can take our dogs to anywhere we want. Furthermore, with the latest incident whereby a boy had been attacked by 4 dogs, this already created a public alert on dogs.

I wud suggest to all dog owners to lie low at this point and see how the preceedings go since the victim's father decided to take legal action against the owner....

Hello Lisa, and Hello to Everyone :)

I am new here and I found your question very interesting, thus I sign up with the website.

Actually, I went Genting Highlands the past three weeks and guess what I stumble upon? I was at First World Hotel, around the "shopping" area and so happen I was standing right outside Vincci & Padini shop. I saw this sign and immediately took a photo of it as I was Over-Joyed to actually see that sign.

http://www.facebook.com/...31b&id=755404216

If you can't see that link, Its actually a sign posted right outside Vincci & Padini shop (at Genting Highlands First World Hotel) that says "Food, Smoking and Taking pictures NOT Allowed. BUT, Dogs & Cats (Pets) ALLOWED"

Also to add, First World has a Spa, if not mistaken its called Chilli Spa or somewhat. I brought my puppy there somewhere last year (i think) I went there with my Family and before we paid for the spa treatment, my dad said he will not pay for the spa treatment unless they allow my dog in. Indeed, they want the business, so they allowed. Haha! But of course my Puppy is well trained, she don't make a mess, just sticks to me and was freezing because of the weather.

And I smuggled my puppy into Awana Hotel once :p Hehe!

That is all~

Hi Kaerb,

I really like what you said "how can Malaysia hope to be a world class tourist attraction or achieve international recognition, if it can't be tolerant to dogs???"

The recent news in The Star is a good example

http://thestar.com.my/...3&sec=parliament

Actually, as a Malaysian Citizen, growing up in Malaysia has opened my eyes to see alot of "things" which we are not allowed to voice out. The government is run mostly by Malays only, Authories and Powers is up to the Malays. I don't see how Multi-Racial when everything is Muslims, Malays and Mosques.

I feel treated very unfairly as a Chinese, and I believe the Indians and other races feels it too. We pay taxes to build their Mosques and whatnot, like Putrajaya is a good example, sending a guy to the Space for nothing and special rights/discounts for Bumiputras ONLY.

Its like, Malays can double or triple park every friday and cause a massive jam outside mosques or on the road during their Friday prayers but us as as a different race, during our festive season we are their prey for "ang pow" money or prey to issue summone for playing with Fireworks.

All in all, the only person that I believe has ever make a stand is Raja Petra. Frown
