Hideeho, all! Can't Post

Hi everyone,

Wow, what luck to have stumbled upon such an active hub for pet enthusiasts. My name is Lils, and I'm mother to two shihtzu pups, May and Yoda, and a hefty golden named Bruno. I just relocated from Boston to spend time with my family this year, and it's been great being in Kuala Lumpur again. Smile I'm not going to go into the whole "my doggies are the cutest" thing since we know that's purely subjective Wink but I shall offer you a snapshot of my babies. May is the princess, who loves to spread out, carpet-like, on pillows while nibbling at her treats. Yoda is a shihtzu who thinks he's a chicken, i reckon---in addition to dogs, my parents also keep serama chickens. He likes to hang out with them and occassionally latches onto them and gives them a thorough tongue-bath. Bruno is 3 going on 4 but acts like a baby. He seems to forget that he's no longer that little 4 kg pup but rather a 40 kg adult---sometimes when he jumps up to meet me he literally knocks me over. His favorite time is when i take him on car rides and he gets to stick his head out of the window and smell the breeze.

Some random thoughts:

a) What's with all the dognappings? I guess I'm lucky because I live in a fully gated bungalow, but I've heard so many horror stories about dogs being taken away at the blink of an eye. It's appalling! Are they ever found? I don't understand why anyone would steal dogs (Cruella Deville aside), seeing as they are probably bonded with their owners already.

b) I'm vegan and haven't found any good quality dog food that's vegan. Can you get this stuff here?

c) I'm thinking about volunteering at Paws or SPCA. Does anyone know if they are euthanasia-free?

Hope to talk to you soon!

Welcome! All of your doggie sounds adorable and loving. Got any pic to show?

Oh no. I'm one of the victim to lose my doggie. She is being stolen 3 months ago when all of us is not around. I was so sad.....till now.....i still can't forget her. Everything for her is still very fresh in my mind. I heard that the chance of getting back stolen dog is very slim, but the chance of getting back missing dog (walk away by themselve) is much more higher. Anyway, sometimes i still heard that somebody is able to reunite with their stolen baby, becoz their doggie are just stolen by neighbour and etc. Sometimes, people is just too lucky enough to meet their stolen doggie back few months later or even few yrs later.

I wish i could be one of them to reunite with my lovely baby. Pls pray hard for me too!

Hi Lils Smile

A warm welcome to doggie paradise... its as good as you get it here in this country... in puppy.com you find all the lover here and great ppl to share doggie stories... out there, not all are as friendly to our pooches...

Dog nappings?... well its business I guess... these ppl are making money by either reselling the dogs they stole or they use them for breeding... its sad but its true and nightmares to all owners... so do keep your furkids as safe as you can...

The other 2 questions I'll leave to the expert to give you their opinion...

Do ENJOY yourself here and come and join us when we do have outings... its really lots of fun...

Re: [JolinG] Hideeho, all! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi everyone,

Thanks for dropping me notes! Smile With regards to vegan dog food, they manufacture good ones in the US that meet all the nutrional requirements. Dogs that are fed on this are perfectly healthy (they get their protein from whey and soy mostly), but it's a different story with cats who are not really omnivores but carnivores. I haven't found anything here, but then again I haven't met another vegan either. Crazy I was not confident that they'd survive well on a wet diet that I could cook for them--only plant-based foods, no diary and no eggs, which is what I'm on--so right now I'm feeding them regular kibble and canned food.

As for SPCA and Paws, well, I understand that there are funding and space issues but I don't believe in shelters that euthanize. We do need more public awareness about proper care for pets and the stigma against mixed breed dogs.

Talk 2 u soon!

hey lee,

Nice to meet you. I'm really sorry about your baby.FrownFrownFrown I'm trying to understand this whole situation...call me naive, but I still find it difficult to believe that people can be so mean. since I've been back I think I've met about 10 people who have had their pets stolen. The other day i met a man at the park who had two shihtzus like me and he said that his dogs were stolen when he was at work.

I'll meditate for you, though!

Take care, Lils

Re: [JolinG] Hideeho, all! [In reply to] Can't Post

CoolHi again!

Oh insomnia insomnia...looks like I'm not getting any sleep tonight! Well, you see, I don't support the animal extractive industry. Period. To give you an idea how "strict" I am---well, I don't buy a certain shampoo (i'm assuming that mentioning the name is prohibited?) because its parent company has a horrible record of animal cruelty. I don't wear any leather or pearls or silk either. So, when I got back, I had to switch my Golden and shihtzus to a meat diet, since I couldn't find anything for them. My parents are paying for the food right now. My babies love it, but unfortunately I won't be able to keep doing this once I start buying their food....unless of course I get a sugardaddy who's willing to fork up a couple hundred dollars each month to feed my dogs! Hey, both of ur doggies are very very cute! I'm a superfan of Shih Tzu too, but never have one before. Becoz all the while, my doggie is either rescured from the street or given by neighbour. They are all mixed breed or mongrel only. But for me, they are all my little baby! Thus, losing them is similar to losing my own kid. The feeling is so hard and sad.....Frown

I also heard a lot of dog stolen case nowadays. I didn't expect i would have the same problem coz as i mentioned my doggie is only a mixed breed, not pure breed! The dog thief is so cruel, they don't understand the bond between us with our pet. They thought doggie is only a pet, and nothing important for us! Some more, our M'sia police won't take any action for dog stolen case, that's why it indirectly fosters the dog stolen case!

Hi minglmy

Yeah I'm a strict vegan, but believe me, there are cases that are more severe such as being on a fruitatarian diet or those who eat only brown rice and water. Tongue It's great to know that you are trying to be vegetarian once in a while--hey, it's good karma you know? I got to say though that it's hard to find nice restaurants here. See, I'm vegan for ethical reasons though I'm also tibetan buddhist. I still enjoy my wine with my dinner, but most vegetarian restaurants are religious in nature and I don't want to offend anyone. Any suggestions of places to eat where they serve wine or perhaps, b.y.o.b?

So, do u mean that u r having 4 doggie now together? In fact, mongrel is cute too especially when they are a puppy. My mum used to rescure one from the street. At that time she was only a few weeks puppy and was being bullied by children and other stray dogs. She is so pity and thus my mum rescured her. Then, we sent her to vet and vet announced that she was standing a very slim chance to be fully recovered, becoz she was too thin and not healthy. But after we have taken her well, she was fine and very healthy then. But she was very timid and only trust us. However, she has passed away at the age 11 yrs old. I still miss her now.

Re: [lilibee] Hideeho, all! [In reply to] Can't Post

welcome to the forum.

Yeah, there are a lot of dog napping around, even for gated properties, where the nappers hope over the fence and nap the dogs during daytime when owners are not around.

Regarding to vegan food, I think there are some 'vege and rice' type of kibbles, but not very sure what brand. I have bought some 'Hearty meals' treats that are vege and rice but dunno specifically about kibbles.

Good thing that you are willing to volunteer at PAWS or SPCA. If I'm not mistaken, don't think they are eutha-free. I think they still put them to sleep after a while if the dog is not adopted.

HI Lilibee,

ya, my aunt is one of those who even takes vege beer :) dunno where to find it though in malaysia. As for me, I'm a sorry case lar always forgotten to be on vegetarian when I'm suppose to. Normally try to be a vegetarian from 12 am till the next day... but most of the time abt lunch hrs (coz too hungry) always mis-munch some meaty stuff and then only remember that I'm supposed to be on vege that day !

cheers,

Wink Aww sweetie you can do it! Just remember what you're doing it for! I just came back from Sri Ayutthaya--it's a Thai restaurant near my place in Damansara Heights. I managed to find something I could eat, hey, a stir-fried asparagus. Believe it or not, I've actually started to forget what meat tastes like, and I'm glad.

I found some recipes for doggie treats that we can bake for our babies if we have the time. i love to cook, so if anyone wants to share the recipes, let me know and I'll pass it along! Smile

p.s right now my yoda is licking my foot because he wants to go to bed and he needs me to tuck him in!!

Hi...

Ehehe...I'm just remembering the time that I tried to switch my babies back to a vegan diet after they tasted meat.... I cooked some tofu and vegetables. i mixed them with the regular food and the next thing I knew yoda had picked up each and every piece and dumped it at the other corner of the room! I've started to bake them treats at home, which they like and which are vegan friendly but let's just put it this way--once they've tasted the real thing, it's really hard going back!

thanks for dropping me a note! talk to you soon!

hahaha... let's pray that i do it better the next time round. asparagus is my favourite dish of all time ! Glad that u found something (at the very least - kinda hard to find vege dish nowdays at the normal restaurant as most of them will add meat to their vege dishes.

ur 2 fluffy fella is soo cute lar u know, i always see shih tzu like a floor mop (no offence ya) as when they lay down and all the fluffly fur reminds me of one all as they are totally FLAT on the floor ! once my friend nearly step on one thinking its a place mat as the shih tzu was sleeping and can't see the face n all. that was sooo funny then !

I know what you mean. It's the same like once you've given them wet food, they'll never touch dry food again.

Last time I bought a can of beef and vege and ended up all the peas and carrots are all over the floor because my dog has picked them out so she can have the meat all by itself. Wink

Take care and have a nice weekend!!

Ehehe, yes it can get quite crowded, but the chickens roam upstairs on the deck, the big dogs are downstairs and the shihtzus are inside. I wish they made chicken condoms! I don't eat them either, (that's why they keep multiplying) and they're friends with all the dogs. It's actually quite funny, we have a ritual. Every evening May and Yoda run around herding them back into their cages. Before they go in, Yoda loves to lick them all over. I don't think I've ever seen a dog licking a chicken before!

I was wondering if your neighbors ever complain about the noise with all your dogs around. You know that new ruling in SJ about asking your neighbours for permission? do you think they will enforce in KL too?

Have a good one!

Yes, they do look like mops--I call that "carpet position." I think they do that because their legs are short. I just gave Yoda a haircut--a bit "tak jadi"...one side a bit crooked. :) Your dog is so sweet and innocent looking! Is he/she like that in character too?

Take care!
