Not a dog owner right now but can't live without dogs ! Can't Post

Hey all....It was so great to come across a forum like this existing in Malaysia. I love dogs but can't really keep one right now because I'm living in a condominium. So I now volunteer at the SPCA to help them wash and walk their dogs...also other stuff when necessary.

My name is Sce Hwai (pronounced as C.Y. so you can just call me CY)...I used to have a Pekingese x (died of heart attack at 9 years old) and a German Shepard x but i loss the latter one because she was stolen...oh well, such an adorable puppy !

Great to be here !

Regards,

CY
With warm regards,

Hi CY,

Welcome onboard! So you've had two dogs of the opposite spectrum when it comes to size. Must have been interesting. So what breed of dog would you most likely to have once circumstances allow you to own one? Again, welcome to the forum!

Hi Arthur...I tried to upload an attachment of a picture of three pure white samoyeds of a friend's but as soon as I uploaded the attachment, the whole message was gone ! This happenned two times already...Just wondering how you could post attachments here?

OK, this time I'm just gonna post this message without attaching a picture. I prefer bigger dogs so my choices right now would be Golden Retriever, or Shetland Collie or Border Collie.

Just got back from SPCA after browsing this website ! (to satisfy my dose for dogs cravings hehe) I managed to walk 5 dogs before the mega downpour came !

Regards,

CY

Hi CY,

Havent really tried to upload an attachement yet..Sorry cannot help you there. Maybe some kind folks here who has sucessfully done an attachment can help you out. Or else you can do a forum search first? I'm sure someone has encountered this problem before.

So you are gonna get a large breed dog. The 3 breeds you mentioned are all excellent choices. All very intelligent canines. Please confirm the Shetland Collie..is this the same as the Shetland Sheepdog?

Glad to know you have fun walking the dogs before the downpour. Your kind deed is indeed praiseworthy.Smile

This is a great website !!!!

I don't have dogs now...but will show you a picture of my friend's dogs...They are Samoyeds, you can hardly find them here in Malaysia!

Skippy (female) is on the left, Sam (male) in the middle and Sonic (male) on the right.

Re: [valery] SPCA volunteer work [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Valery.

It's a great thing to do but it also takes a lot of courage to volunteer as well. I had to shut off my emotions when I work there. According to the people at SPCA, they get at least 1000 dogs and cats delivered there in a month but most of them will be put to sleep, they only keep the healthy (both physically and emotionally) ones. When I was there yesterday a family sent a litter of black puppies (I reckoned them to be about 3 or 4 weeks old) and the SPCA people told them that they will put the puppies to sleep after that because they were too young and lacking of space in the SPCA compound. I didn't pry about where the puppies came from but it was a sad thing to hear that they were going to be put to sleep.

Well anyway, I was mentally prepared before volunteering there so I tried to shut off my emotions everytime I heard them saying they need to put dogs to sleep.

However...it was still a fulfilling experience as you contribute a little bit of your time and effort for those that are still there....

Cheers,

CY

Hi CY,

I'm truly sorry to hear about the emotional trauma that you have to go through. I understand how you feel. For me, it's the same whenever I see an injured dog or even one that is run over and left by the roadside. I'm sure if they were human, a proper burial would be accorded. Keep up the good work and I'm sure that by making the animals last days better and happier truly makes you God sent.

The Samoyeds are in Sydney...I haven't seen any Samoyeds here in Malaysia...WHen I first saw the picture, I thought they were Spitz or Huskies...had a hard time guessing the breed !
