Smelly ears

Hello. My cousin's corgi mix has really smelly ear. ( only one ear )

He said it started to smell when he accidently 'watered' into the doggie's ear during her bath time. Then he ask if it might be an infection because she yelps when he gently pressed her smelly ear. He's thinking of pouring diluted Dettol into the ear to disinfect it. ( Crazy Heaven forbid~! )

I told him to give me a weeks time and I'll ask you guys. Pls let me know ASAP. I don't want the doggie to get hurt...

Re: [Twenko] Smelly ears

Because of the construction of a dog's ear, water can get trapped quite easily ...

If the ear is smelling and also sensitive to touch or pressure ... then there is possibility of ear infection ... do not wait ... please take the dog to a vet ...

Laugh OMG... it smells like slightly pungent puppy ears times 50.

It really stinks to high heaven. I gagged for a second when my cousin flipped the dog's ear for me to smell.

Never smell a smelly ear. Phew...

SmileHi,

The homoeopathic remedy is particularly useful and effective for those smelly ears.

One of our member Cshellz has given a positive feedback after giving the remedy to her dog.Cool

Re: [Twenko] Smelly ears

Just wondering .... do you clean your dog's ear regularly ? There is a solution you can get in the pet shop for cleaning the dog's ears. We have to clean our GR's every 2 to 3 days.

Dogs can easily get ear infections.

Hi ... Smile

Cleaning may not help in this case ... It sounds like Twenko's cousin's dog (see original posting) is likely to already have an infection and should see vet immediately ... Smile

Re: [dogslover] Smelly ears

Hello, Smile

We all over dogs here.Laugh

1) There are a few reasons as to why it smells. Generally,it's somekind of infection. Sometimes,yeast,bacteria...etc. What causes it,is a damp ear which cannot dry out. In your case, an acs has really long flappy ears..so it can really dry coz the flaps are covering the ears. When bathing, try not to get any water at all into the ear. After the bath,do dry it.

2) Well,I *think*(I'm not too sure) a smell will always be there. It might not be *the* smell that you're having now. A healthy dog's ears do hv a smell but it's not as strong and it's not as bad. Whenevr something smell's bad on your dog, there's something wrong internally. The smell is just a side effect. In this case,I think it could be an infection in the ear.

Thankfully, there are quite a variety of ear cleaning products in the market. You can try to clean ur dogs ears with them. Best cure is prevention though. Once cleared, don't forget to to clean and dry your dogs ears consistently.

All the best.SmileCool

Re: [dogslover] Smelly ears

Hello,Smile

Does your dog have an ear infection? If yes, then that's the cause of the smell.

Another thing is,dogs will always have *a* smell in their ears. It will never be 100% gone. It's just a smell.

It's hard to tell whether or not the product works and your definition of "smell" could be different from mine.. Crazy without actaully seeing,or in this case, smelling the dog.

"They" could be right,if the smell you and "they" are referring to is the cocker ear smell/odour.

But if the smell you are referring to is caused by an infection, then you could get some cleaner from the vet and work from there.

Re: Smelly ears

Hi all

One of my dogs have the same smelly problem, plus lots of wax. I took her to the vet and got her checked for mite, yeast etc. All returned negative. I have also tried a lot of off-counter ear cleansers bu they didn't work. I clean her ears today and tomorrow I see brown wax already.

Is there a herbal remedy that anyone can share? I heard that Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to help. Any opinion?

Re: [wlaiwan] Smelly ears

Hi,Smile

I too hv the same problem. (Might not be exactly the same but from the description,it seems so)

What I found out,for my dog neways,is not to clean too often. Cleaning it too often(everyday) seems to aggravate it. Leaves it kind of raw and the amount of wax would double.

Not cleaning it so often, the amount of wax is less. Yes,apple cider vinegar does work as a cleaner. Diluted of course. Try a mild salt solution as well.

Re: [RealityDreamer & May] Smelly ears

Hello Smile

Recently, I took my other dog to the vet for a booster jab and I mentioned my problem to the vet. He then mixed some solution (with antibiotic) for me to try. His instructions were to spray them on ears twice a day and gradually reduce it until it recovers. I am a bit sceptical as I question the idea of using antibiotic too much.

Anyway, what I did now is to clean it once a week so as not to aggravate her ears. But occassionally I will spray her ears with the antibiotic solution. I have yet to see anything special

May, can you share with us the homeopathic solution u mentioned in your post?

Thanks & best regards

Bring your MS to any groomer and ask them pluck the ear canal hair for you. Wink

Use ear cleaner to clean your MS weekly after bathing. You can try using this ear cleaner brand call #1 All System. Put few drop of the ear cleaner into the ear and massage it about 1 min and then use a cotton butt to clean the ear just around the ear canal area. Make sure don't poke to deep in the ear yaWink

Hope this help.
