Bald Spot

May Old Hand Aug 19, 2002, 5:18 PM Views: 11376 Bald Spot Yesterday while I brushed my puppy coat, I noticed a bald spot on her right front leg near her undearm. the spot is in red colour and with red dot on it. I put some yellow liquid on the spot and will observe her for a few days before I send her to the vet. Does anyone have any idea what's that and is it serious? I'm looking for antibiotic for her which can be purchase at the pharmacy. Anyone can help me here?

I guess you don't need to bath/wash the area very regularly ... once a week should be fine!!! Instead, try Johnson baby oil (another ads.??? Oh ... no) and apply the spot twice a day. During the bath/wash, always apply more soap & rub accordingly on the "spot" and to leave it at last 10 - 15 minutes before you rinse it thoroughtly. Keep the kennel/crate/pan/run & your compound clean by using just "CLOROX" once a week and you will see the end result ... . I don't have to go to the vet (my pocket don't burn a big hole this time). The red small dot on the bald spot has gone but the fur still have not grow back. Anyway, I'm happy with the result. ujen Novice Oct 17, 2002, 8:50 PM Views: 11298 Re: [leopui] Bald Spot leo Pui, my min pin has similar problems...just to narrate a little bit as to what may have triggered the bald patch at the belly and the neck part....i used to change the towel it used to sleep on everyday and due to insufficient rinsing, there may have been some soap residue. I changed the newspapers in the cage on a daily basis as well. I now do the changing every 5 days only and i use the savlon cream on the affected parts daily...this has been going on for the last 4 days and I 'think' the dog scratches less and im hoping that the hair will grow back in no time....ive noticed some spots on the belly as well which isnt red or inflamed....and it will eventually harden and peel off...is this a cause for concern> should i still give the recommended human soaps a shot? thanks. im feeding it E*****a maintanance btw....should i switch to lamb and rice? I have no much idea about dog food contain that may have some skin problem that caused ... I have being on Science Diet for years and recently, added raw food into their daily diet ... our dogs is doing okay by far ... You mentioned that ... ive noticed some spots on the belly as well which isnt red or inflamed....and it will eventually harden and peel off ... I am not sure what is that without "seeing" the "real-thing" but I suspect it sound like "Hotspot" ... I've also used Listerine Mouthwash to cure hotspots on one of my Rottweilers that was prone to hot spots. Dried them up fast! ujen Novice Oct 17, 2002, 10:14 PM Views: 11293 Re: [leopui] Bald Spot that was prompt...thanks...will try the soap this saturday but you agree that excessive cleanliness is harmful right? btw i just finished speaking to a breeeder of shih tzus and silky...had a word with him abt my min pns temperament ie its not as noisy and irritating unlike the usual min pins...he is of the opinion that ive just inherited a very sound min pin in terms of temperament...is this what it means that dogs should be bred to improve on their temperament like your WS who are now recognised as companions rather than guard dogs? this fact corroborates with the fact that the min pins previous owner's brother was the breeder of the min pin....its name is mickey btw. thanks alot. Yes, I do agree that excessive cleanliness is harmful but it is very much depending on one individual understanding the level that suit individual !!! Off-topic in this section but let "curi-curi" again for a few lines only!!! We planned our WS breeding based upon the attributes of both parents ... the temperament (as mentioned - the pirority), pignmentation, drives too ... apart from these, I also look into both sire & dams' sturcture and lineage ... at least to balance if not over come the fault and the short if one cannot get better breeding off-spring. ujen Novice Oct 18, 2002, 12:17 AM Views: 11283 Re: [leopui] Bald Spot ah pui ahh, my min pin happens to be a bit on the quiet but not entirely quiet side....the previous owner happend to be an extremely quiet person for reasons best known to me and the breeder is of the opinion that pets more often than not do take after to a large extent its master. what i am trying to do is to talk with it by encouraging it to be aggresive, to bark and to be bold at all times especially upon sight and contact with strangers and other animals and i think that my method seems to be working...i noticed that its been abit protective and noisy at home but quiet when i take it out for walks....only time will tell whether im successful at the end of the day and i hope I am. lets see if im able to restore its original nature if it isnt already in its natural state. ujen Novice Oct 21, 2002, 9:31 PM Views: 11246 Re: [leopui] Bald Spot went hunting high and low for those stated brands and thank goodness i found those ingredients in Protex....i gave the dog a thorough wash on friday and no doubt he scratched less on sat but i decided to still wash the affected part again on sat (this time the belly part) and yesterday, i merely " mat leong" his entire body after his 3 km walk. im adopting the wait and see attitude and will update further. meanwhile, we had visitors on sat and you should have seen how he was defending his territory... barking and growling and he even managed to escape to chase a little girl aroung the compound. He was approached by an alsatian and basset hound yesterday who were howling at him and he did not bark but stood his ground and walked boldly towards them...i am still in the midst of encouraging it to be bold and aggresive. till then take care. I didnt know how he got it but then that time I didnt bath him for 3 week as his fur is really dry up and tangled badly. Maybe that's the cause. But then when I asked the vet, he said that it may due to many things. Well, the look of ringworm is that the patches is red in color and is as big as a 20sen size. It has a ROUND outer line which is redder than the inner part with flaks. He itched badly. I did not noticed it until I bathed him. He got 2 patches of it side by side of his body. Its pretty geli though. Anyway, vet said that we can easily get infected with that fungus so beware of it. Make sure you clean the place thoroughly. He gave some medicine to consume and cream to apply. After one week, he recovered from it. ujen Novice Oct 22, 2002, 11:23 PM Views: 11208 Re: [Yuki79] Bald Spot you must promise to furnish me with a silky puppy in consideration of my advise...no lah...but if you have then I wouldnt mind...okay here is the scenario...i noticed that it was quite scratchy last week and quite a bit of its fur as ripped off...based on ah puis advise, i washed him with protex last friday and decided to take him to the govt vet near my place and the whole transaction was over in about 7 minutes and it cost me about 15 bucks. will have to wait and see for the outcome...im quite worried in fact but was assured that the condition is under control...keepin my fingers crossed. ( scared you? hehehe) Well, what my vet told me was that, I need to really clear (wash!!) his crate, toys, ..anything like cloths or furry stuff. We need to clear off the fungus everywhere in order to prevent it from getting more infection. Whereever he sat on or lay ..need to really clean it too. I guess what happened to you was that maybe the fungus is still somewhere in some place where you didnt overlook to clean it? If the fungus able to infect you.... and so on..i guess that you need to really clean his stuf toys, crate, bedcloth..etc??? (for the time being) Dont let the fungus get around and round as it will be a never ending story. ACtually, the medicne to be consume, I only gave him twice as I dun like the idea of him taking any medicine like that ...he look so drowsy with no mood. SO i just rajin rajin apply the cream and also bath him with an anti fungus shampoo, with also one white liquid to apply on him to blow dry with it. So now he is fine. Also thank God that I didnt get any of those!!!! If the condition still persist, maybe I can bring you over to visit the vet that I mentioned? But then it is in klang... ujen Novice Oct 25, 2002, 7:19 PM Views: 11174 Re: [lisachew] Bald Spot i agreee with lisa, my mickie's condition is improving, the fur at the bottom of his belly (which i thought was always bald when he first came to me last month) is carpetting his belly and one important In Reply To trait to mark is hygene. his play area is washed with clorox every alternate day and i wash his crate with clorox about 1 a week...that reminds me, all of his belongings are to be disinfected tomorrow. the other thing that has caused the medication to take effect quickly is that i give him a wipe beofre applying th cream...like i said, i use protex..soon after the coat is dry, i muzzle him for about 1 1/2 hrs and proceed with the cream...the muzzling is necessary and effective as it preventshim from licking thus allowing the cream to take effect. you may want to start visiting the govt vet if you havent already started...theres one in pj and shah alam...cheap and effective, they cant be money motivated whatever it is cos they the vets dont stand to gain anything from you. mail me if your einterested to know the whereabouts of the clinics. At first is red red colour, now become black, cannot be remove. I also bring him to the vet and only give medicine shampoo for bath, and give him some injection, vitamin. this is the previous vet we go. Now we change to another vet, he said is not big deal. Can anyone teach me how to remove that mark? My pug also kena kutu attack, last few week we found one kutu in his body, and killed it. But we can find any but I suspect still got, because when we bath him he got red red spot like kutu bites. Poor pup. Can anyone teach me how to get all this kutu away??
