Re: [tasha_87] help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just 4 days. Maybe you should give her some time.
My friend adopted a mongrel and it took her months to show her real picture.
At first she didn't bark at all and fear of everything. After a couple of months she eventually show the true color by becoming active and playful and a good watch dog.

Dogs are like human. They take time to be familiarize with other people and adapt to new environment.

Re: [tasha_87] help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When they are stress, they refuse to eat or drink....just place the kibble and drinks..near to her. When she is 'kebulor' she will eat lar...Give her sme time...she just need a bit of trust & confidence and to familiarise to the new environment...

My mixed breed Pluto, is still behaving that way, when he is at an unfamiliar place...no eat! no drink ! and menyorok under a tiny place...and he is almost a year old....some dogs just have no confidence....be patient ok....

For now, try to lure her with food..like can food, or cooked chicken meat or treats...biscuits....if she use to be a stray...mab have to get use to eating kibble...Good luck and keep us updated

huhu, actually, bought a husky b4, then my cousin "mengamuk" want it.....then my parents asked me to gave it to her, its just not fair
i give my parents few reason that the pup will b stress blablabla, then they still asked me to give it away....i just dont get it, im not stayin with them...so, i got no choice, then i think, if i adopt a mongrels, no 1 goin 2 take it away from me, and at least im giving a chance to have a family..that is me....., besides, she is cute..lol

Re: [tasha_87] help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ahh..its ok..u have a cute dog with u,now. Pedigree or nt, for me I still love them whole heartedly...they are God's creation ....and they love me the same too...

Only in my case, my mongrel has very, very little self -confidence...he will kencing when he is excited or afraid. Will behave like a 'sakai' when we go smewer he is not familiar with (without me....lagi teruk !)...wont eat, wont drink & wont mve a bit from where he stands....maximum, 2 days.

Training is another painful affair. He will not let anyone guide him...except me. If the trainer hold the leash, he will cry like nak kena bunuh like that ...Phew.....he just dont trust us, human...

Re: [khengteik] help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm..Pluto sleeps on his bed beside me. Basco and Brenda sleeps on my bed inside my blanket..or on my pillow or on my head. he he he ....though they have their so-called fabric dog kennel and basket for them.....they love to share my side of the bed....too pampered !!!

In fact, my kids dont know how sit /sleep on the floor Blush..they will go in circle finding at least a floor mat to sit/sleep on....so, its really susah when we go visiting...cos they are ppl who dont like to see a dog sitting/sharing their sofa.....so we told ourself, if they are bothered, we also not bothered to visit them....

Told them, my kids not dirty...indoor 24/7 plus bath on weekends.and we 'lap' their face, body, feet before going to bed.....but, who would believe us ....

Re: [tasha_87] help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your dog is feeling very scared & insecure being outside for the very 1st time. It's like an alien place for her so give her some time... Outside in the porch has got lots of noises such as cars going driving pass, people walking, talking & then fireworks. Some dogs are very afraid of fireworks. If she tries to run into the house & into your room, do not allow her becoz your room is a security place for her & she feels safe in there. It's important that you don't pet her & talk softly to her saying, it's okay & so on with very soft tone becoz you're reinforcing this habit & infact, it's like you want her to be like that. Let her be on her own, let her be independent. There's nothing for her to be scared of. Nobody is harming her... Just tell her quite firmly with no petting, tell her, "Be a good girl, there's nothing to be afraid of." After awhile she'll be fine & she'll start eating & drinking on her own. She's bound to get hungry & thirsty some day right? A dog can go off without water for one week but can go off without food for one month. Try this & see how it goes.

dear amber....

"A dog can go off without water for one week but can go off without food for one month. Try this & see how it goes. "

i have not known of any dog that can survive without water for more than 48 hour......could u kindly show me where u get this statistic? just afraid you r misleading the public here. also, according to our local council research, dogs, the most resilience one, died after not getting food for 3 weeks.(mongruel) how they know it? bcos they didnt feed them.

no offense ok?

Re: [fartu] help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's infact true! Exactly the same as humans! Humans can go off without water for about a week & food more than one week. But, the dog can die faster if it was under the hot sun especially without any water. This is becoz the dog is becoming dehydrated faster. Nope, I'm not giving wrong information here. The dog you mentioned who died after three days without food, was it already skinny? I've starved my dog fr about 2 & a half days before becoz she refused to eat her food & was picky & did not die. This was actually to make her eat her food again & infact it worked. This is a common practice for dogs who refuse to eat their food. If you can find a very skinny mongrel on the streets then you know it hasn't had food nor water for weeks. They can survive that long... The Akita we rescued on the road two months ago, was emaciated & was totally dehydrated under the sun & it clearly showed that she has not had food for about a month & had not had any water to drink for about a few weeks. When the body knows there's no more food or water inside it body, it will automatically hold it back & reserve it so that it can keep the dog alive.

Re: [fartu] help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've added some few more points in which I forgot to add in the previous reply...

It's infact true! Exactly the same as humans! Humans can go off without water for about a week & food more than two weeks. But, the dog can die faster if it was under the hot sun & if it is walking around alot especially without any water. This is becoz the dog is becoming dehydrated faster. Nope, I'm not giving wrong information here. The dog you mentioned who died after three days without food, was it already skinny & was healthy? It also depends on the dog's health. If the dog is healthy but has no food for three days, no way it will die that fast. But if the dog is skinny and/or sick, it can die within those days like the dog you mentioned. I've starved my dog for about 2 & a half days before becoz she refused to eat her food & was picky about it but she did not die becoz she was healthy & was drinking water. She did vomited out gastric juices once in a while but nothing serious. This was actually to make her eat her food again & infact it worked. This is a common practice for dogs who refuse to eat their food. If you can find a very skinny mongrel on the streets then you know how long it has not had any food. They can survive that long... The Akita which we rescued on the side of the road two months ago, was emaciated & was totally dehydrated under the blistering hot sun & it clearly showed that she has not had food & water for a very long time. Infact, she was so starved & dehydrated that her vision was blurred & she was almost dying but good thing, we rescued her on time. She was also trying to lick soapy water on the ground that was flowing out from someone's house. When the body knows there's no more food or water intake, its body will naturally hold some back just to keep the dog alive & that's why the dog will pee less & the pee is very thick & almost orange in color.

Re: [fartu] help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She who has been named Chantelle, is a beautiful dog today! Her hair has grown back, she has put on about 4 to 5 kilos after two months, very well behaved girl, just a lovely dog! My mom has spent close to RM500 on hr medications & all. She had disease & maggots in her neck. I don't understand why she was abandoned. She doesn't even have a microchip but she's a pure brindle Akita. People fast their dogs once or twice a week. There has got to be a reason but I don't fast my dogs becoz I don't think there's a need to. It will just give them gas...Only once I did to my Dalmatian Faith coz she refused to eat her food. Oh, you can never not give dog water! Water is more important than food & that's why dogs can go off without water for one week only. But if there's moisture in the food like soup or what, then the body extracts water from there but can't really help much lah.
