Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

I'm not very sure if there is currently a Chihuahua Club around. Can anyone please advise as searching through the entire puppy.com is not easy and very, very time consuming. Anyway, to all Chihuahua owners, maybe we could share and know who among us are Chi owners and lovers. Let me get the ball rolling .......

1. Dominic / Chelsea / 3.5 months / Female / White-brown / Kelana Jaya

Please share your dog info with us and we will keep in touch as we progress on. Good to be connected to learn from more experience Chi owners and lovers and would really love to be in a Chi Club.

Re: [myzanordin] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Thanks for your feedback. I thought I read in some threads there were quite a few Chi owners and they met quite regularly. Many tahu tak ada orang respond. Anyway, good to know you. How old are your min pins? I nearlt got a teacup min pin from where i bought my Chi. It was supposed to be slightly smaller than the standard min pin and was going for RM580. somehow, we got hooked with a Chi. Chi features look more rounded while min pin more sharper. anyway, like you said, it's how we bring them up that gives us the joy. great knowing you.

Re: [dowk2301] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Basco is one year old(had his b'day celebration last weekend) and Brenda is 9 mth. I would say, my BAsco is considered big (he is 7 kilo +) while Brenda is 5 kilo plus. Had to put Basco on diet sometime, cos he tend to look round. We would prefer if he has 'the doberman look' (with heavy chest and small waist). We had no problem with Brenda, as, she is tall & slim..with hourglass figure Sly. We got Basco and Brenda at RM 800 each.No cert..

Anyway, nice meeting you too. Keep in touch.

Re: [mizeakira] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Thanks mizeakira for your response. Great to note some Chi lovers around as most of the threads are for large dogs like GR and GSD. Lots of silkies too. My Chi, Chelsea, is getting on very well. She shed a lot of fur recently and I think she was allergic to the Jerhigh dog treats. Stopped immediately and she is growing her fur back again. Her ears drop and stood, dropped and recently stood up again. Got some pic and will share later.

Thanks for your response.

Re: [dowk2301] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Hi Dowk,

Happy to meet you here. What flavour was the Jerhigh Treat that you gave Chelsea? My Min Pin x Chihuahua also was sick after eating Jerhigh treat but its only the BACON flavour. Others like the vegetable, carrot ones, the milk ones, she is fine eating them and love it. I dont dare to give her the bacon one anymore. Please post some of chelsea pics here to share. Hehe..

Re: [mizeakira] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Yes, Yes, it is the bacon flavor that started the whole thing. I gave her the salami but nothing much happened until I gave her the bacon. She became nearly botak but now growing already. I'm feeding her Eukanuba Natural Lamb & Rice. What do you feed your Chi with? I'm trying to upload some pics here. Chelsea is about 3.5 month old then. She is 4 months now and growing well. Have some more pics but at home. Will upload later.

Before Chelsea, I actually had a very tiny Chi. But she died and was replaced by Chelsea. 2 vets got 2 different views - died of overdose of deworming and another is liver failure. I believe the liver is the main cause. Anyway, not easy to take care of tiny Chi. Chelsea is like an angel! Would you believe me that from the 1st day she came home, she has NEVER whine or cried at night for attention. When we go to bed, she sleeps too and even if she is awake, she is quiet and plays by herself. She is now potty trained and adorable. Blessing in disguise ...... the tiny Chi cried the whole night through. Well, our hearts sank and my kids actually cried but Chelsea is an angel! So, we were consoled from Cody's death. Hope you liked the pics.

Oh my, Its really the bacon that is causing the problem. I never dare buy the bacon one anymore. I am feeding my chi Royal Canin.. I fed eukanuba before too.. But I fed the fish and potato which was so big and she didnt really like it. I love your chelsea.. She is so cute!!!!! So sorry to hear bout Cody.. My Princess is a big chihuahua.. Eventhough she is quite big, but she is healthy. No problems so far.. Just that one time she got low blood sugar.. By the way, do you have MSN?? Maybe we can chat there as well..

Nice to hear from you again. I don't subscribe to a chat room but I use skype a lot. Not sure you are using that. My user name is dowk2301. I'm not sure how to use other messenger but I am checking now to get into one. Will inform you of any messenger I am on.

Cody suffered from hypoglycemia also and his was very bad. Tak makan, already goyang and pengsan one. Chelsea never suffered from that. Got some new pics for her and uploaded for you all to see. Really appreciate keeping in touch with Chi owners to learn and to share. I've stopped giving Chelsea any Jerhigh products as I don't quite trust the brand anymore. I give her Eukanuba healthy biscuit but don't understand what is written cause it is from Japan. What treats are you giving yours? What's your furkid's name?

Poor Cody. But at least now you've got Chelsea. Chelsea is so cute!!! Love those big ears!!!

My furkid's name is Princess and she does act like a princess at home. I am her slave...Frown I give her many treats before.. I currently give her smackos.. I gave her greenies before and she loves it. Tried some biscuits too.. Princess is not too choosie when it comes to food.. Thats why she is a bit big compared to those small tiny wawa.

Show you some of Princess pics. Hope you like it.

Re: [mizeakira] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Your Princess is a BEAUTY! I am hoping that Chelsea will grow to be that beauty. I will definitely be a very proud owner with that beautiful coat. How do you maintain the coat and what do you give to eat to have such beautiful coat? Princess doesn't look too big. Quite normal for a Chi mix MP. It looks exactly like the dog in the Chi book. If we are not putting our dogs to shows, it is ok. The standard weight should be 6lbs but size is not an issue. But, we as humans and owners, prefer them to petite so that they will remain cute. Hope Chelsea will grow to be like Princess.

Where do you stay? Sorry for my ignorance but are Malay or Jap or Chinese? Can't make out from your name. Not important to me but just curious. Great knowing and sharing with you.

Re: [dowk2301] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Hey,

Princess is not the CHi x MP..SmileShe is a pure CHi. Princess is around 3KG. I went to a chihuahua champion show that day , and she is the biggest chihuahua there.Unsure And I just groom Princess almost everyday, to get those coat. But she is shedding fur now.

By the way, My Chi x MP is called Bambi. I have another MP called Whisky. I also have a Golden Retriever called Max and A rottweiler called Harley.

Anyway, Let me introduce myself. I am Joanne. I am currently in Australia. Only Princess is with me now. All the other dogs are still in Malaysia. I am Chinese. How bout you?? Its really great getting to know Chi owners.Frown

Hi RR, it is good to know more Chi owners and indeed, you have a very nice Chi there. You should see Joanne's Chi. though Jo says her chi is big but her fur is simply adorable. Your CHi looks very lively and her fur is beautiful. How do you maintain the fur? do you give any additional supplement to have such fur? Jo's chi - princess - also has a beautiful fur coat. See it in this thread in the pics. great to know all of you. BTW, how do we address you, RR? I think RR are your dogs initial, right?

Re: [dowk2301] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Hi,

No worries.. Got too many dogs so you sure will get mixed up. i dont really have any problems with neighbours or authorities. The only thing is that the neighbour's dog have ticks and pass some to my two big dogs outside.

For food, my mum sometimes give them beef mince and rice or their dry food. For shelter, The rottweiler and the goldie stays outside. And the two small dogs will be in the house.

Re: [Rr] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

It seems that Chi are very prone to shedding of fur due to food in take or for one reason or another. Yes, I visited your site and your Min and Chi is beautiful. My Chi shed fur very badly at 4 months old and when I traced back, the root cause was the Jerhigh treat I gave - bacon. Wah .... she shed os badly that she looks so bald. Stop that immediately and I am now more careful with treats for her. I gave her only IAMs - the Japanese one which I don't undertsand. She seems to like it and no chemical reaction.

I read in books that supplement is not necessary if they are on good kibbles. I feed Chelsea (my Chi) with Eukanuba Natural Lamb and Rice. I also tried to give her some good treats like salmon and beef but she don;t seem to like it. She will stay away from fish and try beef and later spit it out. Very choosy .... but she loves to chew bones, raw chicken wings and even bread. So, I use bread la as treats.

How often do you train your dogs for easy commands like sit, down, and the sort? What are the normal command to teach our Chis?

About pooing, my CHi is trained to poo in the cat litter box. She is also trained to pee there but last week, she pee outside the litte box and twice in my children's room. Ayoyo .... spanked her for that. Dunno why she already been trained to do her business in the litterbox but still do outside. Maybe try to get out attention or maybe cannot tahan already.

Thanks to you both Joannes for for your support and your feedback. Really need to find friends with Chi to learn from and to share. I check this site everyday.Cool Both of you has beautiful Chis. I am plan to go on Oct 7 at BU. Will you be there?

Re: [dowk2301] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

About the peeing bit, sometimes princess also do her business at the wrong spot but I think she does it for attention. Sometimes, the pee spot might be dirty and thats why she dont pee there. FrownI think Princess is just being naughty and wants attention. But for Chelsea, she is still a pup thats why she still cant hold her pee..But don't worry, I think she is still in the process of learning.

About teaching commands, I teach Princess lots of different commands such as sit, down, shakehand, beg, rollover...She is very quick and smart. She gets it very quickly. I think the treat works well when teaching her these commands..LaughBecause she is a very greedy dog. She loves treats and is willing to do anything for food.

Re: [mizeakira] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Dear Folks

Jethro (my chi) is absolutely adorable, loves to cuddle beside and runs as fast as his little legs takes him! My cat is slowly warming up with him

, she stays away from him, but sometimes this little fella chases my poor Ginger (my cat) around the house. Though Ginger pretends not to be bothered about the newcomer, once well into the night, when Jethro was sleeping in his cage, Ginger pressed her nose against the cage - and put the paws (I was petrified that she was going to scratch him) but she just touched him, then walked away!

In the night, I initially left Jethro in the hall (in cage), he how howling like wolf at exactly 3am! As I read we should ignore his 'crying', I left him alone - it did not help at all and I was worried that the neigbours would start to complain! All howling stopped, when I moved him to my bedroom - still in the cage but my room is not as dark as the hall and left the radio on. Jethro was still in the cage, but did not distrub me until 5.30am! I realise now that Jethro was terrified of total darkeness and quietness.

My concern is the toilet training, I simply cant make him pee and poop in one place! As much as I and (the maid) is trying to show that is the place to do his business, Jethro does not seem to get it!

I have requested a friend to get a form to apply for the lisense from MBSA. I will keep you guys informed on the progress.

Can some one share their experience on toilet training - I am getting fustrated.

I am also wondering how much do you feed for a eight week chi and

Are there any books on 'chi' in KL which I can buy? Any recommendations. \

Well have a good day! And I will upload Jethro as soon as I can!

Regards

Esther

Re: [kalaelan] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Actually, i've been out of action for a very long time cause I don't receive much response. Anyway, I'm back now. My Chi, Chelsea, is 14 months old now. BUT i got a problem at hand. 2 weeks ago, i went out station and left her at a boarding home. Noted that the owners took good care of Chelsea but the problem is that since we took her home, she refused to eat. She went thru nearly a week without much food and only last Monday and Tuesday she begin to eat. BUT she has to be fed from our hand. She won;t take the food from her own bowl. Very frustrating cause I don;t want to see her being spoilt by hand feeding. ON the other hand, if we don't feed, she won't eat. she lost a lot of weight. Any advise out there?FrownUnsure

Re: [kalaelan] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

I think your budget is abit too low. Chi cost more than that even those which are not pedigree. Most Chi are sold above RM1k and if you are fortunate, you may get one slightly below RM1k but you must be very careful when buying the CHi. You may never know why the owner is selling the Chi for so cheap.

Re: [mizeakira] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

mizeakira, just wanna ask if you have encountered whereby your Chi refuse to eat for more than 1 week? My Chi is going through that stage now. Started when we took her back from boarding home when our family need to go back to Kuantan to see a sickly relative. When she came, she just refuse to eat. She is still active though. Monday and Tueday when we cannot tahan anymore, we hand fed her though I know it should not be encouraged. She ate but when we left the food int eh bowl, she refuse to eat. What is wrong? can anyone help?

RR, do you experience it too? anybody can share?

Re: [kalaelan] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Sorry, I did not get what you mean. Are you asking if Chi's are noisy. Yes and No and it depends a lot on you as to how you train the Chi. Chi are known to be very possessive of their owners and they do bark if you're not known to them. Just like the Min Pin. However, there are also extreme cases where Chi won't bark. My Chi does not bark at all. Friends who sees her are all very surprised to note that she does not whelp or bark. Instead, she socialize very well with human. Occasionally, she barks when she hears a foreign sound but stops once we begin to investigate. From the very first day when I took her back, she has been a very good dog especially in the night. She sleeps when we sleep and even she is awake, she is quiet and does not crave for attention. She is also trained to do her business in the cat litter. She pees and poos there. In fact, she is so clean that she will not poo if there is poo in the litter box. She knows how to go back into her own cage when she knows her time is up. She is just simply obedient and adorable. It is only lately when she has some eating disorder but is healing now. beginning to eat again on her own. Hallelujah!

Re: [dowk2301] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

HI everyone, we just got a new chi called Chiwawa... wanted to say hi and also find out if there are any dog owners out there with chis and big dogs... we already have 2 goldens and 1 english cocker. The chi is our 4 year old son's dog (coz he wanted a small one, and we were nervous about him playing with our bigger dogs coz the cockers can sometimes snap). He adores her. Now just wondering if they can ever mix or if we have to keep our chi totally separate from the big ones. BUt if anyone has experience keeping big and mini breeds, would love to hear.

NIce to see other chi lovers out there, I must say they are quite an adorable breed!

Re: [kalaelan] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

If you intend to keep the dog in the house or apartment, Chi is a better choice than dashund. Dashund are from the hound group and though they are short, they need space to move around. They are known to bury and if you live in an apartment, i would strongly advise against getting a dashund. A chi is the best for small space or in-house dog. Like I said, it is difficult to conclude that all CHi can be quiet but they sure can be trained. I have actually left my Chi unattended at home without us for more than 8 hours when we go to church for special functions. She is ok and it comes through training too. When you're back, assure her again that your back and give her time. The essence of it all - training. Chi can be trained when to bark or not to. It would be too much to write in here but you can get books on this.

Re: [luckey] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

There are successful stories of Chi mixing with larger breed dogs like GR. be careful though when you fix socialize them especially your dominant dogs are larger males from the larger breed. You MUST be there to supervise. It may take months before all your dogs are well socialized. In the meantime, one way that could help is to segregate the outdoor dog which are your larger breeds and the indoor dogs which is your toy dog. At evenings when you're around to supervise, allow them to socialize. remember one thing, even though your dogs socialize well, you still need to be there as larger dogs most of the time do not know their own size and strength and while playing, they may accidentally hurt the smaller breed dogs. In short, be there to supervise at all times. As in your case, it is easy to set the apart - indoor and outdoor dogs.

Re: [Riccaval] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

HI Derrick

Yeah its me! Never thought i'd own a chi but since my son wanted her so bad, we got her and she is really adorable! Really scared about the small/big dog mix thing tho! OUr chi lives indoors and sleeps with us and the others unfortunately got delegated outside after Jack was born.

But chis are quite feisty.. when Chiwawa first met Luckey (who was treadmilling in our living room) Luckey was very happy to leave her alone, then Chiwawa started to bark, so Luckey barked back! Now all 3 of our big dogs bark at her :( oh dear!

are your chis long or shorthaired? Yeah do post some pics. I will try and put some up soon too :) nice to b in touch again!

Hi,

So sorry for such late reply, been really busy lately.
I hope your Chi is alright now. I never experience anything like that before. My chi is very greedy and always eat thats why she is a bit overweight. If there is any problem with your chi, you should consult a vet immediately.

My chi, Whitie, is 7 years old now (OLD LADY LIO!), short hair, creamy colour. Had 7 pups from 3 pregnancy, 2 died. Pups mixed with Australian Silky Terrier, their look like the daddy but the size is after the mummy.

Re:Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Count us in ...

teebek/5 months/male/black white tan/deer face+long leg/KL

pokemon/3 months/male/red white/apple head+short legs/KL

I like the idea of gathering chihuahua moms and paps to exchange ideas and experience on raising chihuahuas. I got my first chihuahua from puppy.com. 2 months later I bought another irresistible one from the same breeder.

Teebek the big one is playful, athletic, and gentle. Pokemon the short one may look like a cute dolly but he is the fearless macho one.

These little gremlins are simply a bundle of joy.

Re: [dowk2301] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Hi everyone!

I have 2 furkids. 1 Rabbit - Mickey (3 years old) and 1 Chihuahua (8 months) - Boo. I used to hate chihuahua cause I have the impression they are fierce and barky but when I hold Boo in my arms, I couldn't resist. :) He was calm and cool.

There are some ppl in the thread looking for chihuahua. If u can wait, it's better to adopt. Even if you can't wait, pls do not buy from a petshops or a pet traders unless they can proof to you thier pups are not from puppy mills. Buying pups from puppy mill will condemn the parents to a life of absolute misery (http://stoppuppymills.org). It's better to buy pups from reputable breeder where you can visit the parents and see thier living condition.

I made a mistake when I was purchasing Boo. I bought him from a pet trader. This pet trader keep all of the dogs in a house. B4 we visit the house, my bf and made an agreement. The moment we find ourselves walking into a puppy mill, we'll leave. The place was pretty decent and didn't look like a puppy mill @ all. The moment we hold Boo in our arms, we totally forgot to press further to view the parents so I can't be sure Boo is not a puppy mill product. My bf and I were suppose to act uninterested in order to bargain for a discount but we forgot abt that as well!

You will find breeders in http://www.adpost.com/my/pets/Dogs/ Read a bit abt buying pups from a good breeder b4 calling up the ppl in adpost or else you wouldnt know what questions to ask or how to guage whether that person is a good breeder.. I failed in this area so I cant give u any tips.

And.. some of you mention abt worrying abt ur dog barking when no one is around. Pls go to http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/

I learn a lot from Dog Whisperer. :) Just a summary : Chihuahua tends to be barky and protective of thier owner because due to thier size, they hardly get corrected when they misbehave and they think thier owners are weak so they have to be strong to protect them. If your dog is barky or aggresive... it's your fault. :) You will find the dog whisperer video in youtube or video podcast. You will be amazed on how a dog's bad attitute or phobia can be fixed easily.. If you are only interested in chihuahua video, pls use the keyword Nunu, demon, chihuahua to look for the video.

I am taking Boo to obedience school next month. Anyone interested? (http://www.petnyou.com.my/) :) We can use this weekly obedience school for our little chihuahua gathering.

Nice "chatting" with u guys and gals! :)

Re: [woodstock] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

What a small world... My chi and I are taking our graduation test this Sunday, 11 Jan. You are lucky coz you get to join the first indoor toy breed class held by petnyou.

We did our training on the outdoor football field. Sometimes just the wet grass and sand(not to mention big red ants that would love to bite your ass when you are getting in their way) are enough to make a comfort loving chihuahua refuse to take your "sit" or "down" orderTongue

Peebek's classmates includes a rottweiler, golden retriever, poodle, westie and a JRT. It was fun but scary sometimes. It's kinda stressful for the little guy to be sandwiched in between huge rottweiler and golden retriever, nevertheless the class was very well conducted by the instructor. Smile

We might continue another stage if Peebek pass his OB test tomorrow. hahahah

You know what... it might be a coincidence that Peebek is also 8 month old. His was born on May 21. What about yours?

Re: [tacobell] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

Hi tacobell,

How did the test go? Hope everything went well for the both of u. :)

Oh.. that's great! I prefer indoor classes cause I hate the sun. :)

Ya.. I agree.. being the smallest in the group can be scary for the little guy. How did u prepare Peebek for the class? I think Boo will spend his whole lesson shivering. He doesn't have many friends. He only knows me, my bf and a rabbit that refuse to play with him so he's pretty much unsocialized. I try taking him out for dinner and visits families as often as I can but till now he is pretty much a timid dog.

I dont know his birth date cause he doesn't have a cert. He is a giant chihuahua... he weight 2.5kg. When I check his weight on a chihuahua growth chart to estimate his full grown size, I found out he is totally off the chart. How heavy is ur chi?

Re: [woodstock] Chihuahua Club - Getting in contact

We pass... with a C Frown

I was told that I need to work harder on correcting Peebek's "hault" position. Peebek's sitting posture is a bit sengetUnsure Nevertheless, we finally graduate!

My chi is also a giant, 2.2kg. Peebek's little brother Poki weights only 1kg.

Having a giant chi has its advantage. Bigger chi can jog and hike with you, and they seem to have less health issue such as the infamous collapsed trachea.

Peebek used to be a timid chi, that is why we join OB training. After the class, we usually stay back to play with other doggies there.

To help my chi overcome its anxiety meeting strangers & bigger dogs, I was told to let strangers(especially children) touch and hold the dog more often. A walk in 1U's Central Park will provide you and your chi plenty of opportunities to meet strangers, children and other dogs. If you are not an outdoor person, try to take your furkid to IKANO Pet safari, that's also a good place for your chi to socialize with other furkids & friendly dog lovers.

I posted some of recent photos on petnyou's facebook, you'll see photos of Peebek with his classmates.

www.facebook.com/pages/Petaling-Jaya-Malaysia/petnyou/26168257580?sid=64827db36325325410dce1f99820a7ed&ref=s#/photo.php?pid=30271323&op=1&o=all&view=all&subj=26168257580&aid=-1&oid=26168257580&id=1000853703

Some tips that you might find useful for Boo's coming OB training:

1) Bring soft treats like cheese, boiled chicken,or biscuits soaked in water. Dry biscuits might choke a chi if taken too much.

2) If you have a bad back, try to DIY a tool so that you don't have to bend down to reward your chi with treats.
My DIY tool: A 50cm long satay stick, with cheese on the tip.

Congratulation Peebek and Tacobell! A "C" doesn't really matter. The most important thing is u and Peebek had a good time during training and strengthen the bond that both of u shared.

Are u and Peebak going to continue to a higher level in the obedience class?

Thanks for the tips!

Hi Everyone.. Wanna meet up in some place for a drink/meal and let our kids play together? I would like to socialise Boo with peers his own size. I brought him to Bukit Gasing to hike with other dogs.. I made a mistake. I started off to fast for the both of us. I made him nervous cause I was nervous whenever big dogs come over to "say" hello. They pawed him on his tiny little head and jumped over him.
