What are the qualities/drives required for this sport. U mentioned gameness..is this the same gameness as u mentioned in the ring? What drives the pit to pull? Is it natural/instictive? or more of training or an issue of pleasing the owners?(high pack drive?)

*I think the first step to train your dog before proceed further is to train your dog to follow your steps... otherwise just imagine a dog that can pull a truck or a car if ran out of control by pulling you around... hahaha!!! it would be Your Dog Take You Out For A Walk then the other way round*

Anyway... Edd, I will train my AST for this game.

and together we will be the organiser for this game in the future... hahaha!

The winner is not by the heavest weight the dog can pull, but also the mutiple of weigth against the dog's body weight?

For example a 20Kg dog pulled a 100 kg weight, another dog with 30kg body weight need to pull at least 150kg weight in order to beat the first dog?

In the competetion, will the gender take into consideration? dogs and bitches in separate category?

What is the ideal age for the weight pulling training? is it after 18 months old, and serious training at 2 years old?

Looks like Jack_MBT and I need to wait for another year to start the training..... Sly

I think should put them on training when they reach 1 year old, as we know that dogs below 1 year old are still growing... right???

That means the weight pulling AST or APBT are not really suitable to out for a walk in public... I guess... otherwise... they will pull you all rounded... hahaha!

Hmm..so..does gameness mean determination? Gameness in the ring=determination to bring the other dog down,gameness while weight pulling=determination to pull?

For weight pulling,has the gameness shown in the sport have anything to do with pleasing the owner? I have not grasp the notion that pits love to pull weights like huskies pulling sleighs or cart-breeds pulling carriages where the dogs like to do it as they were naturally bred for it. Pls help me understand?

I compare this to Schutzhund where even tho pits were not bred for the sport but they are still used in the sport because of their prey drives(or should I say that and a mixture of gameness)....or am i completely off the track?

On a side note, I have Tyson pull me on rollarblades(very nice for lazy ppl.. Tongue

) using the common harness..The harness broke a while back. My question is,is that common harness detrimental to his chest? I noe they aren't really good for the breathing as there is a horizontal line across instead of a "Y". Are weight pulling harnesses available locally? If so how much? I am not really into the sport as I do not yet have a suitable dog but if it does not cost too much,I would not mind getting 1 for exercise purposes.

She was start changing teeth last months. How long it takes to change all the teeth? When she pull on softtoy there is blood stain, sometime even drop on the floor, is it normal ah, after one month?

Shiki Lak Geh Ar? No problem lar... that is very normal with the bleeding, like human it might takes about 2 months to change it teeth, if it is a small breed than you should be extra careful cause the teeth might choke them, for AST don't have to worry lar!

I think the initial goal of formming MAAWACA is to promote the weight pulling for AST/APBT, as these breed are not recornized by MKA, people who own these breed have no recornition for their dogs. (the details was post by APPK earlier before). Therefore, Alaskan Malamute, St Bernard and other breed are not a Banned Breed, they can register with MKA, but in the future if we have WP for other specific breed then we might want them to register their dogs (any breed) with MAAWACA to participate in the WP competition.

Hey Chloe...

Maybe you can start to look for a tough and solid AST/APBT to prepare for the WP liao!

Thanks for the reply...cleared up all the confusion I had. May Polly rest in peace. It's dogs like her who help the name of the breed in public eyes.

A friend of mine knew a female pit..who was nvr trained for personal protection. She was the sweetest & most friendly dog u've ever met. Friend even joked that she was even friendlier than a GR.Nvr bit any1.Nvr showed any aggression in her life. Her handler was a lil girl. Come 1 day,her handler was in trouble. A man broke into her hse & had her cornered. The pit came rushing in & bit the guy up.

In my book,that is 1 heck of dog. Not many would actually bite out of loyalty & protective instinct without prior training! Frown

man, i'll still keep to the gameness of APBT. The AST, sons of GR. CH BULL BREAKER out of CH ASKA are for collection item n tester for the event of weight pulling. hope this might raise the breed image of APBT/AST n all we gamedog fancier in m'sia. i think i'll bring out my APBT when the contest is ON. hey, i just gone through a video clip from the net showing that a APBT at 45kg still pulling a cart weighing over 300kg with 3 legged after one of the front leg loose out of the joint! he managed to reached the finishing line. that's incredible. this APBT really pulled from his heart. hey ed, news spread all over oledi ah bout the competition?!!! ha ha.

oh yes ed, the english bulldogs i told u earlier. i got them back in my back yard oledi. their face look hansome like u ler, he he. they look really nice. come to visit me next week, o.k. i'll call up demitri later. heard he got reserved few potentials for u ler.

Regarding my AST, I have no idea what is their bloodline... well, one thing I can say is my female was from Thailand, the male one I got it locally... already 2 years old mainly for stud purposes. How can I compete with you guys like this... sure Beh Tiok one!!!

mai a ne kong...siam kia ae hiow pak mui thai ma... i personally took thai's dog in a good manner. these thai people really dare to spent their fortune just to import the breed they like. this really improve the standard of all breed i would say. n that's why i ventured up with these thai people. as me n eddie has into this APBT for years, we came to understand that clear trace of bloodline is very important to determine how the next generation is up to. we as a dogmen can really modified the next generation of our dog to our like just like we r modifyng cars. exp, we have a dog that is very good in ability and mouth but poor in wind, we can always throw in bloodline which is good in natural air in our selective breeding programe. we dun simply breed our working dog just to meet the market demands. close n matchcable bloodline with the target to improve n improve the next generation of our dogs is the ultimate goal in breeding programe. gameness is a must in working dog nomatter in what ring or arena at least in my opinion. really nice to share with u. yes bout the weight pulling plan...mission will be accomplished.

Well, in this case I should say I have 2 Mogrel AST. Hehehe!
So, a mogrel AST can put onto weight pulling or not? I mean in terms of its gameness. I myself do not think so as both of my AST are so playful and friendly. They can't even kill a frog at my backyard.
OK, back to WP APBT, if I would to get a WP APBT, as a beginner, which bloodline do you suggest me to go for? Most importantly, my point is it has to be not too expensive, easy to train and easy to children.
If the price is reasonable, will get one then.

bro, red nose APBT is a family of dogs arrived dated back very early to US direct from Ireland where most of the fighting in this modern world came from. they r a family of dogs having red nose, golden eyes and normally comes in red colour and were call OLD FAMILY RED RED NOSE DOG or IRISH RED NOSE DOG. It has been into many of the bloodlines today. red nose is not just simply a named bloodline. back then, red nose dog was feared most of the dogmen from its GAMENESS. anyhow, red nose dog was originally bigger in size n heavy boned dog with medium mouth (generally). this both r 3 trait of disadvantages in today's fastlane fighting arena. this is why they are no longer a priority in breeding programe. anyhow, this trace of unique feature still appear in today's top bloodlines APBT. No doubt on their GAMENESS!!! I personally admire the feature n physical appearance of this RED NOSE APBT very much especially those with cropped ears! i think this red nose dog much cappable in weight pulling. nice to share.

well, philipine can be listed no 2 most active arena for fighting dogs in asia after japan. they have events in every weekend n grand convention every quaterly. yup, they r having very fine bloodlines there as this sport are not being force to the edge by the law there. their dogs together with this sport florish/improve very fast there. anyhow, no worries as the quality of "performing" and trace of top bloodlines as their's are in mine, eddie's n some of the dogmen's back yard here in m'sia. nice to share.

Shiki's sire have black nose, and blak eyelid, her dam is red nose and in red. Shiki exaclt like her mother. Her other sibling that I saw follow the sire [interm of color].

BRO, what/who drives u to this Jeep n Chinaman bloodlines. just curious. me n edie r really into both of this bloodlines. we have granddaughters of ch. chinaman sired by Garner's Frisco ( 2nd in the R.O.M list of today's modern fast lane dog). and also numbers of greatgrandlitters Ch. Chinaman. They r proven to be very good in working. Ch. chinaman has never got a chance to proved it's gameness as it's opponent(well known dogs) hardly escape from the pit corner. me n eddie r having breeding programe to even push closer back to ch. chinaman now. estalavistar baby!!!

Jeep bloodlines in the other hand have proven it's gameness n natural wind/air. his last convention to his gr. ch into Ch. homer reached more than 3 hours mark. we r also into Gr Ch HammerHead bloodlines as well. They r proven to have supperb ability and gameness. bro, there r still many other bloodlines which can be trusted out there. it is very fun on this APBT breed when u really get to understand the bloodlines of them. it is okay n common to have ast with red nose and golden eyes. let's go back to The States early in the time where fighting dogs arrived. it was arround 1870's where much of the englishmen n irish have migrated in huge number to america. in this journey, they bring along their homeland culture as well, which is dogfighting n this sport was already banned in england. this is when this figthing breed gain its reputation. as this game gained its popularity by the american, more dogs were imported back from england n ireland. this is the time when this OLD FAMILY RED RED NOSE DOG or IRISH RED NOSE DOG n many other bloodlines came in huge number to america. since this breed has begin to breed locally, it was call AMERICAN PITBULL TERRIER. this was the only one fighting breed mentioned.
as the cruelty on animal laws has taken its inforcement in america. owner n breeder were thinking of other ways to ultilised their APBT since this dogs is a working breed. this is the time when this APBT had a huge diversification into 2 main streams. 1st stream still into their old job which is dog fighting untill today illigally. 2nd stream goes to farm herding, hunting, protection n guarding and later followed by conformation show.
the 1st stream APBT still keep their gameness, jaws power, wind and ability qualities very tight in their breeding programe. i appreciate n gratefull toward this group of people very much. however, this APBT later diversified again to another group for weight pulling contest, protection/guarding work and conformation as the penalty on dog fighting was getting heavier in US.
the 2nd stream in the other hand paid attention on the physical appearance, level of obeying working command n capability to work for human in their breeding programe. the pit qualities(esp. gameness) are no more priority for breeding. they became more to be on show appreciation. this is the time when the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB first granted recognation of the American Staffordshire Terrier as a SEPERATE breed in 1936.
to make my point easier, there are two women infront of u. both are very good looking girl. one hold a position as FITNESS INSTRUCTOR in fitness school. the 2nd one hold the position as a FASHION MODEL in modeling school. they r still beautiful women with different role. clearer now?
so having AST with red, red nose n golden eyes are pretty common. the only quality we r talking now is the trait of GAMENESS which is a doubtful in AST! nice to share.

well i can say there's plenty of AST for working/protection/guarding kennels in US as well as for the APBT. they are working breed anyway. i once had a APBT which was harnessed to cain direct to the front of my old satria car and he pulled all over the car in my taman with me inside controlling the sterring. i loved him so much but he passes away 1 year ago.

sorry yah 4 calling u bro all this while, hav heard u'r pretty girl. would like to give some comment on " because they like to bite n not out of defense ". we should put it that way, all dogs will bite for reasons (human)-stranger/intruder,shock,insecure,extreme pain,defense,territory invaded,under bad living condition/nutrition, very sick/old age, bad command by mean owner, etc. especially APBT, i think they r the most gentle n faithfull dog species towards his owner n family members including friends (i did have many other working breeds b4). i never experience an APBT that bites for no reason. don't u agreed Eddie? sorry R D, i'm not saying u wrong but to my experience with APBT.
this is why i never thinking of leaving them from my life. i'm having a female APBT name ARROW(2XW) which i love most n she will obey every single command me n my father throw to her. we can train our dog to how we want it to be n it's not necessary to get adog from ang moh kennel as it already sounds so expensive liow. Eddie got many sad memories dealing with this US ang moh liow. nice to share yah R D.

I meant differently when I say "they bite for no reason"...no reason meaning they do not bite in defense or they bite for reasons other than defense (for example out of prey-if its coz of prey...memang any dog like to bite Tongue

). U r right...no dog would bite for no reason.Sorry if i got u guys mixed up. Explanation wasn't too good. Prob with alot of APBT's (correct me if i'm wrong),is that they are bred to be ppl friendly...so want to get 1 tht is naturally suspicious of ppl/defensive/work in defense is more difficult than working a gsd/rott/ambulls etc...but of course there's conditioning...

"Ang moh" kennels..yea..i agree. It is very hard to get a good dog unless u r good friends or very lucky. No one would sell a good dog/bitch.

sorry for late reply, quite busy lately. u must have gone trough this book called GLADIATOR DOGS BY CARL SEMENCIC for u to mentioned TOUGH GUY KENNEL, rite? well, this autor knows not that details about APBT although he is a apbt fancier. should go for RICHARD F.STRATTON and few others. eddie has much of this reading material as he advertised this valuable printed reading on THE STAR before. all about APBT. should reffer to eddie/APPK.

Secondly, the way n concept for me n eddie to promote this breed is TO GIVE THE BEST TO NEW COMERS. we want them all to understand this breed, never felt cheated after tough 2 years of feeding their APBT which turn up to have poodle heart, clear details of the bloodlines, what is this APBT good in and the whole package of conditioning a APBT. we want friends in this breed n not mainly for business like the ang moh kennel u mentioned. okay, see yah later.

sorry 4 late reply, quite busy lately. well firstly, i'm no pro in pro dog training. but on my APBT, i mostly use more to rewarding them. i started to train my ARROW to obey my command to go into her kennel by throwing a piece of biscuit into her kennel by saying out loud ' GO IN '. this lasted for 1 week. later, she obey my command immediately and seem to have forgotten bout the biscuit. successfull on other of my dogs too.

bout 'NO', my ARROW is a very hyper active n very sensitive to her sorrounding. this make her to do many of the unwanted things. okay, i will hold her cheek with both my hand and pull her really near to my face. i will say 'NO' in harder tone with both my eyes straight to her eyes. eye contact is very important (show to her that u are not happy). then i'll put her straight away into her kennel the whole day for that day. believe it or not APBT can read our facial message easily. i practiced this for 2 weeks. WAAALAAH, it works.

to tell my APBT to 'STOP' while on leash. well, i use 6 foots leash while walking my dogs. i mostly keep my dogs on my left even they are always infront of me. i start to pull the end of the leash direct to my chest, stop walking and followed by saying 'STOP'. try this every 50 meters. try this for 1 month and it seriously work. this command will prevent our dog to struggle to other dogs in the park like he is going to kill them.

NOW!! WHO SAYS WORKING APBT ARE HARD TO TRAIN??? at least in my experinced with them. hope this can help u ern.

Basically it's teaching the dog the meaning of no means smth unpleasant. The trick here is tht wht may seem unpleasant to us may not seem tht way to the dog.
Arrow is a sensitive dog (as ray mentioned) so tht is good enough.

hi ed, i'm new here and a friend of craig and shaun from melaka. really interested in what u guys are discussing and would really appreciate if i could join. i'm into apbt/ast recently after all these while. i was into a different working breed. after training other people's dog and research and advises, i finally bought an apbt pup. the pup is a local bred but quite confident. recover fast from new places. brought him to a vet for first vac and there was another apbt (3-4 months old) barking at my pup and my pup was scratching (6 weeks old), maybe on playing mode. wasn't exposed much to this super breed. only saw a fight quite some time back.

anyway its cool that u're starting all these but it'll be in penang right? any recommendation for us apbt/ast lovers down south? i seldom go up north even my mom's from sungai petani. need advise from all u sifus here for us to start something down south other than shutzhund and french ring. any comments and ideas are accepted open heartedly. cheers...

After contest command:

I should say the particular contest on the 18th May was a good dog lost to a normal dog. The pg dog biger in size but a bit skinny where the KL dog (from APPK team) smaller in size but a bit plum.

PG dog--> No target when "showing", the gameness is there but no hard mouth. rating *** as a pit. (anyway he is the winner)

KL dog--> Very good in concentration, focusing when showing, the gameness was too good and cause him lost in the contest. If it has rested in the 1st 30 minutes, i will say the winner will be him. rating **** as a pit.

Keep it up King! you are a good pit!

This CC junior guy claims that he has contacts in thailand or whatsoever.He does has the contacts(contact number)nobody knows him.Dont waste your time on this CC junior guy,when you challenge this guy,he will try his very best to hook you with those thai people because he doesnt have dogs.He even goes around to the extend of trying to borrow matchdogs or either hook you up wt other dogmen.You guys dont believe me?Ask Appk. Challenge him for a wager of rm10k or less,foreign dogmen are not willing to come at this amount.CC junior will have to come up wt his own dog,if he has one.This CC junior guy now goes around bragging about bloodlines abt the past but he does have newcomers of his own.He advises his members not to match against who and who and in the end none of his members show any dogs at all.But he suceed,he maintain his team's no lose title.Its true,his team never lost a show before.

I am planning to put one of my dogs up for adoption.. He is the Pit Bull, 15 months.. The reason why I am putting him for adoption is because yesterday, he killed my 18 month old male Rottweiler.. very sad but true.. I was shocked when I woke up in the morning and saw blood all over the garden. He is 16 months old and is an excellent dog but extremely dog aggressive and very protective over his owner. He is in excellent shape and size.. about 24 inches tall and weighs 75 pounds. Very obedient and affectionate.. not sure how he is with others.. excellent muscular structure.. brindle brown in colour.. A fine example of what a pit bull should be. But I must warn you hat he is not for the normal inexperienced dog owner who has other dogs in the household or with young kids. I was adviced to put him to sleep but I decided aginast that because he deserves better. Problem is that I have a Fila, GSD, Bully Kutta and the Caucasian at home so it is difficult having him around. Do advice if you have any friends who are keen. Cheers, KW

I am new into APBT and I already have 3 dogs at home. I need some advice on the below:

I have a 1 year old GSD which the APBT (future) will have share a compound with - a big compound. My GSD is ok with dogs, very sociable. Currently, I am interested in a pup which her parents stay together with other dogs, and they are not fight dogs.

Will introducing a female APBT to a male dog lower the chance of dog fight between the two? By spaying the female, will it reduces her tendency to engage in a dog fight?

Is it true that with proper socialisation reduce the chances of a APBT pup turning into a dog fighter when she grows up?

Long time I did not come visit this site, and yet it is still like a war zone. We must respect pitbulls no matter it is from a famous bloodline or not... as all of us are pitbull lovers. Eventhough it lost in the sport, but it sure will try its best before it turns.

To me I don't see the purpose of chellenging some one's dog in a public forum as you know the sport is strickly for dogmans only, you should have better channel to sort it out if you are a dogman. Further more, to me it is something like you are quarreling wth the air as you don't know who is their real identity.

So, my suggestion is for those Sifu dogmans out there you are welcome to use this platform to promote or educate others, but please don't use this channel to back stabb others or self promoting you yourselves.

Please bare in mind, winner or looser in the pit sport still win highly respectation from the REAL PITBULL LOVERS.
