Is it ok to cage GR puppy?

One of my friend which got 5 GR puppy and he is giving one to me but I told him that I need to study the characteristics and how to raise GR first. I don't want my puppy suffer under bad maintainance and environment.

Me and my wife is working from morning to evening with no one at home. My concern to raise, is it fine to put a GR puppy in a cage as I read from the forum, that GR need to be around with humans and ppl concern on them. They need space and human contacts to develop their skills. The reason to put GR puppy in cage cause I dunwan him to poo or pee around while we are away, but I am kind of sad n pityful if I need to put him at cage from 8am to 6pm.

Is there any suggestions for my new puppy which I plan to adopt in a month time.

Re: [vialentino] Is it ok to cage GR puppy?

it has disadvantages and disadvantages. proper responsible crate training is ok but dont expect the fella to be crated more than 8 hours.

i personally have gone thru the crate training. we work from 9am - 6pm. we have a GR pup who is now 8 months. we had no choice but to crate her. but instead of crating, we have a playpen with sufficient place for her to move. GR are very people dog and will be mischievious when left alone. i suggest if u dont have time to spend with him, then forget a GR or forget a dog.

you cannot say u r tired coming from work cause ur doggie will be ready to interact with u, play with u and both of u will be frustrated when the dog have bad behaviour simply because its bored.

we spend every moment with our dog cause we dont want her to go crazy. if we have to work late, we will send her to daycare which she is more than happy. we put her in a playpen, giving her treats, toys to play. she still sleeps mostly in the afternoon so she literally is crated only about 4 hours. young puppies cannot control the poo/pee so be prepared to have accidents in the crate. we crate our pup with sufficient water, treats, toy, a comfy place to lay on, soft music and fan to keep her cool. i come home first then the hubby, so i will walk her. she has been really good until now. and i am glad. but they get bigger so i started training on her almost immediately.

if u still plan to get a GR and feel sad to put in a cage. send to a dog daycare. it could easily cost u RM500 extra a month but if u r willing..then why not??? GR pups can be a disaster cause they need to learn house rules and all..so be prepared to wipe away pee/poo in the house, ur shoe being chewed and anything u can think a 2 years old will do..a GR pup will too.

no worries...try and see if u can foster the pup for a week and see if u can cope..if not, then better give back to your friend. raising a pup is simple to do but raising a pup that will be happy, bond with u and able to live with is an entirely different thing and can be really time consuming.

Good responsibility ...

Accept the GR puppy or for the matter any puppy only if you can invest your time to him/her.

I have 2 GRs and I know the responsibilities in feeding, caring, bathing, picking up poo.

Bringing to Vets for vaccinations, check up and so on.

Sometimes the puppies taxed the patience of saints.

Like any relationship, it is nurture only by spending time together. So please, please think carefully before accepting the puppy.

Trust me I have seen many give up midway, some are so neglected that the puppy never developed to its full potential.

Re: [sbt] Is it ok to cage GR puppy?

yeah, at the end i didnt adopt the puppy thou I like it so much....cause thinking of the responsibilities to handle....is way too much as I am busy with work & business. Better not to make the life of the puppy miserable.

Instead I am planning to rear fishes (goldfish / guppy) which is much easier to maintain and low maintainance cost.
