Re: Dog Training

There is an open field in PJ near the old town round about, where they have classes every sunday evening. Its for the K-9 good citizen cert.

Owners have to be present with the dogs. Unfortunatly I can't help you with the price

Re: Dog Training

If you are a member of MKA, then you can send your dog for training that normally last for 10 weeks, one hour per week. The training fee is as low as RM 100.00 for MKA member. The next training course will start on August 12, 2001. If you wish to join the training program, do enrol now.

Re: Dog Training

If you are travelling along Federal Highway towards Klang, make a left turn at the EPF Building slip road (slip road leading to Jalan Gasing), go strainght and you will reach the roundabout and the field will just be on your left.

Re: Dog Training

I have a few enquiries..1)Can anyone tell me what time the training starts (for the Sunday training classes held at the PJ Old Town area)?2) Also, what are the tools or equipment that I'll need to bring?3) How much do I have to pay. 4)My Shih Tzu is rather young (3 months old) and she has not received her 3rd vaccination yet..will it be alright for her to mingle with other dogs?
Thanks.

Re: Dog Training

Gin,
If my puppy possesses a MKAregistration, does that automatically make me a MKA member? Or do I have to register and pay to become a member? I was told that only breeders have the rights to be a member... I hope that someone can clear this confusion for me as this is the first time I am an owner of a puppy. =)

Also, can u pls tell me where the classes are held for the MKA member...

Re: Dog Training

No.

You will still have to apply to be a member of MKA. The entrance fee is RM 100.00 for Ordinary Member. Annual fee is RM 55.00. No , it is not only limited to breeder. It is open to public for application.

Re: Dog Training

Hi Carrie T,

It is best to wait until your puppy is slightly older before sending them for training. It is best to wait until they complete all vaccination before sending her.

For training session, all that you need is a choke chain, a lead, bring some water for your puppy, some plastic bag to collect their [censored] just incase they answer nature's call [smile].

Re: Dog Training

Normally the training clases will start at 4.00pm - 5.00pm or 5.00pm - 6.00pm every Sunday. You no need to bring any tools or equipment. The only thing you need to bring is your dog and the water for your dog to drink. For your Shih Tzu, I think you better finished all the vaccination before you let your puppy mingle with other dogs.

Re: [Anonymous] Dog Training

hey..

i had 2 dogs..

both dogs LOVE to run away, roam the neighbourhood, and return after causing havoc thoughout my neighbourhood....

on new years eve evening, both k-9's ran out of my house's compound into the darkness of the night...

One didnt return, the other did.. [:(]

that was one year ago...
now, the problem persists, its SOOO hard to keep this cute k-9 at bay in home..
he even slips through his collar and gets away!

ive tried everything from a good wet punishment to a motivational talk!

anyway, recently my brother found an injured puppy on the street, and brought him to stay with us...

the puppy doesnt even bother to run out but the other dogg still does..

my dogs is a mixed breed golden retriever & rottweiler he looks more like a retriever though..

he has never shown any aggression to bite me EVER...

what can i do? will dog training help?
im going [crazy] over this dogg!

Re: [finnstar] Dog Training

Hi Finnstar,

I was wondering about the design toward your house ... no fence? ... or there is a "hole" in between the fence? ... or the main gate "always" open wide?

How could your dog still be able to "run" out since you have the previous sad experience that ... two out ... one back only!!!

Try "Choke-Chain" on them since they did slips through their "collar". I believe this is very much effective than the "collar".

Anyway, you asked "... will dog training help?" My answer is definitely YES!!! Check with MKA and learn about the training event schedule.

Re: [leopui] Dog Training

hi

i live in a bungalow..

normally its like, we release the dogs to lay... but when my dad come's ome he opens the gate with a remote control, and when he does so, the dog just becomes a doglympic runner and makes for the gate...

when he's out.. its so hards to getr him back..
ive had to carry him back quite a nmber of times! :)

so, where would be the ideal place to train him to forget this habit of his..

ive heard about a place called Guna Kennels...or the Training..

but is there a place when i can leave him for two weeks, like a concentration camp... ?

lookin forward to an anwser to this dillemma..

Re: [finnstar] Dog Training

Hi, actually, you can train your dog not to run out..I've done it successfully with mine...he knows he's not supposed to walk over the boundary unless I give him permission to...so the gate can be wide open and he won't even think of running out...

What I did was, at first, use a choke chain and a leash and you open the remote control gate...walk him around with the gate open and when he crosses the gate boundary, you give a slight tug on his leash and firmly say no while turning around walking in the opposite direction....when he does what you want, praise him lavishly or give him a treat..

Another thing I did was....okay this is dumb but it actually worked..you may need more then one person to do this...you stand at the gate and you open the gate and if the dog makes a run for it, you don't let him cross the boundary of the gate..you chase him back into the house..hehe...like playing a game with your dog.. for this activity, you might want him to have his leash on as well just let him run around with it.....so in any event that he runs out, you can chase after him and have something to get hold of him easier..

One last thing I did was to leash my dog and make him sit and the wide open gate boundary and I stand on the outside...he looks at me I look at him..if he makes any attempt to cross the line, I say no and make him contiue to sit...if he stays still, praise him...

If you have no time to take your dog through the steps. I suggest you train him before you go out or when you come home...this meaning, when you open the gate to go out...get someone to hold the dog while someone else drives out of the house..if the dog wants to bolt, just tug at his choke chain and say no...

When you come back, get someone to hold the remote and get out of the car and stand in front of the gate and open the gate..if dog runs out, you chase him back in the house..take him to a corner, hold him and praise him..ask the person in the car to wait for awhile and when he/she doesn't see the dog running around to drive in..

I just got a baby pup and I haven't had the time to boundary train her yet..so when she's in the compound, I switch of the remote control gate..that way, if my dad comes home, he can't open the gate...so he honks and I know he's home and I run out to hold the dog...

Okay, I've suggested so many ways..it's up to you to make a small effort and both you and your dog stand to gain...Use you imagination to train your dog....bonding with your dog and creating a strong relationship is always important...

One last thing, be patient..one of my dog learned the boundary in 3 mths..another one took about 1 1/2 yrs...

And in reply to your question, "so, where would be the ideal place to train him to forget this habit of his.. " the answer would be your house..because you have to tell him where his boundaries are...

Re: [shuwen84] Dog Training

Hi,

Well you have information on OB from this web page and if you like M.K.A. infor, go to their web page. The standard for both parties are more or less the same but if you wish to go further then it is best you look else where but still it would be good to start here, puppy.com or M.K.A.

Re: [shuwen84] Dog Training

hi,

The link that u put up is a CGC program its different from obedience training. CGC is a temprement test and thats all. The course only teaches you on the below :

1. Accepting a friendly stranger. This test demonstrates that the dog will allow a friendly stranger to approach it and speak to the handler in a natural, everyday situation.
2. Sitting politely for patting. This test demonstrates that the dog will allow a friendly stranger to touch it while it is out with its handler.
3. Appearance and Grooming. This practical test demonstrates that the dog will welcome being groomed and examined and will permit someone, such as a veterinarian, groomer or friend of the owner, to do so. It also demonstrates the owner's care, concern and sense of responsibility.
4. Out for walk on loose leash. This test demonstrates that the handler is in control of the dog.
5. Walking through a crowd. This test demonstrates that the dog can move about politely in pedestrian traffic and is under control in public places.
6. Sit and down on command; staying in place. This test demonstrates that the dog has training and will respond to the handler's commands.
7. Coming when called. This test demonstrates that the dog will come when called.
8. Reaction to another dog. This test demonstrates that the dog can behave politely around other dogs.
9. Reaction to distractions. This test demonstrates that the dog is confident at all times when faced with common distracting situations.
10. Supervised separation. This test demonstrates that a dog can be left with a trusted person, if necessary, and will maintain training and good manners.

cheers,
minglmy

Re: [shuwen84] Dog Training

Hi, saw your posting, for M.K.A., why don't you pop by at their training ground tomorrow and register then and you can bring your dog there and get it accustome to other dogs and distraction that is training in itself.
