Alaskan Malamute

Hi Folks,

Anyone have the pure breed of alaskan malamute? Do you know how much does it costs and if it's suitable for Malaysia's weather?

Thanks for your reply.

Cheers, Elaine

Re: [RealityDreamer] Alaskan Malamute

Hey there, I brought my dog OKA (not sure if she is pure breed malamute) over from vancouver and she seems to have adapted to the weather. She only sleeps in AC at night and seems to be fine during the day. Even when we go for walks she does not seem to be panting excessively. Although i have to say i have not seem any other malamutes and everyone things she's a husky or a wolf ha ha ha

Re: [bernice] Alaskan Malamute

hi Smile

That's good to hear. Cool

Just wondering, how long did she take to adapt to the weather? Did u bring her over when it was summer in Vancouver? I'm guessing she's indoors during the day?

btw,I like her colour Smile

Re: [RealityDreamer] Alaskan Malamute

i brought her over durring the end of winter in vancouver it was still very cold, before leaving i took her for a good grooming (groming in vancouver is very good compared to here)they brushed out her entire winter under coat and shaved her belly so she wouldn't be so hot when she got here. She was in quarantin durring the first 7 days, don't know how she was but when i visited she was always very hyper.

I think she adapted pretty quick i don't remember her being uneasy.

She can stay outdoor durring the day too but not very active. sometimes after sleeping in the ac she will go tanning in the afternoon!

Re: [et_elaine] Alaskan Malamute

Hi ! I have two pure bred Alaskan Malamutes . Both are from Australia. They are now starting to get used to the weather . Very gentle giants these two are. Unlike my huskies , they are very much different. However they don't mix well with smaller dogs / animals.

Kelvin

Re: [kelwts] Alaskan Malamute

kelvin, pure bred? wah. bet you have to spend lots feeding them eh? they are adapting well? Wow! what made you want to have them?

no pun intended but sometimes i think to myself what does the dog owner think when they get a dog that is so used to be in cold climates for eg the alaksan malamute, huskies, samoyed, Newfoundland and american eskimo. i am sure there is more cold climate dogs..is your malamute fur thining to adapt to the weather?

i have a friend's father who has 8 malamute to help him sled things in winter, but she lives in Labrador, Canada and it's cold all year round anywhere. and man those dogs love to work!

Re: [May] Alaskan Malamute

Smile I'm staying in KL .. Yup they do shed a bit especially near the thighs but this is mostly due to the scratching and biting of the fur . This is mostly due to bacteria or fungus that are in between the coats. You see, huskies and Malamutes have two coats and most of the time the undercoat tends to get damp due to our humid weather. Just a few sprays of fungicide and anti bacteria spray for pets will do the job. After about a month or so you can see the results.

The dogs can adapt to our weather well. Most important , they should ay least have a fan blowing at them. Yup , they do eat a lot too. An adult Mal - about a 18kg bag a month plus . ..

They don't bark at strangers or animals but will lunge at smaller animals eg. cats.

Cheers

Kelvin
