Hi! ArthurSmile

U have very good & smart ideas..... Plan A, B & C but I fully support to your Plan C which I think is the best and you are the right person & capable of leading us to go for this Plan C ....... like submit a joint proposal/suggestion to the to help talk to the relevant authorities to establish a dog friendly park.

If you required any help from us/forum members and I am sure some of them are willing to help & would give their full support, too.

WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK ABOUT THIS SUGGESTIONS?

By the way, Arthur! Do you have the Malacca Map for this coming 17/11/02 MKA Dog show? Where is this Pay Fong High School located? Sorry, I ask U for the Map because your previous Ipoh's map really help without wasting time & petrol in locating the place. Thanks again.

Hi

I was so angry last night, me & teddy was shoo-ed away by the 'special' waiter when I went in to a drinking place some where in Klang (those other waiters/waitress which is not 'special' was actually taking my orders). Well, the reason he gave us was some special ppl here will complain. Sigh!!! MadMadYeah saw some of those special ppl having dinner there. UnsureMadIt is not like I am letting Teddy roam around the place. I really wonder how come it is such a BIG issue and against the law(??) that to bring our little canine member along? Sigh.!!!

I think that it will be better if most of those 'yumchar' places put a sign board out that no ANIMALs allowed. Wouldnt that be NICER? Crazy

Eventually, my friends, teddy and I went to another place NON-halal cafe. Well, surprisingly they even hv a dog themself tied up behind their cafe.

Re: [arthur] highland vacation for pets [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Arthur & Co

I wish you luck. I know that with some determination from the authorities things can be turned around. At one of my past homes the local community were having lots of problems with roaming dogs and people were being attacked and hospitalised. Many people hated dogs and even I hated walking down the street with my young son for fear of these roaming dogs.

Anyway, someone/people on the local council just made a decision to do something about it (I really don't know why). They decided to enforce the laws that were in place banning dogs on the loose. They enlisted the help of the post office, as postmen often bear the brunt of these types of dogs. It ended up you NEVER saw a dog on the loose, behaving badly. Local council officers, not only would collect registration, but would visit every household at least once a year asking 'do you own a dog?', 'does your neighbour have a dog?', 'have you ever seen the dog loose in the street?'. It sounds invasive, but it worked well.

People got back confidence in dogs because they didn't see these dogs with irresponsible owners behaving badly. Until we see only responsible pets and their owners, I think people will resist using the case of dogs from irresponsible owners as an unfair excuse to penalise us all.

Want to Get a Dog Park in Your Community?
Start Walkin' and Talkin'
The best way to start a dog park or run in your neighborhood is to go out and talk to people who have dogs in hand. If they are out walking their dogs, chances are they would enjoy the chance to discuss a dog run in the community with you. Don't be shy; ask if they would like to join a committee. Grab a few people (you don't need a lot, just 5 or 10 folks who are passionate) and set up a time to meet at someone's house to discuss the next step.

Next Step: Where Should It Be?
You and your new group will need to ascertain a spot for the dog park. Most small dog parks are no bigger than an acre. Once you have nominated a site, it helps to let the community know of your plans ... just in case your newly picked spot interferes with a neighbor's rose garden. It also helps to get petitions signed. Try posting notices about the proposed dog park in pet stores, grooming shops, animal clinics and grocery stores. Write or email local newspapers to see if they could do a small story about the idea to gain more public awareness. After a while, you should have enough names to submit a letter and all of your signed petitions to your local parks and recreations department. You'll need to write a clear outline about the need for the dog park. It helps if you focus more on how the park will benefit the community as a whole instead of how it will benefit the dogs. The parks department will then be able to tell you if the area you have selected is available to you and your group, or they may suggest another area for you to consider.

Who Pays?
Once the area is designated as a place to support a dog park, you'll need to seek funds to build and prepare it. Funds can either be acquired through your local government or by private contributions. Either way, your city will probably insist you have the following amenities to make the park safe and usable:

-A fence with double-gated entry and exit
-Nearby parking
-Handicap accessible
-Water fountains for both dogs and owners
-Seating
-Shaded areas
-Poop bag dispensers
-Trash cans

Scooping the Poop
You'll want to immediately organize a dog park council or group to help maintain and monitor the park. The city will also need to know who to call in the event there are issues or other concerns from neighbors or other members of the community. This council will also be responsible for developing the rules of the park, cleaning up after hours, mowing the grass, mending fences, etc. You'll also be responsible for setting up meetings with your city officials to assess the park's success and what needs to be improved.

Is It Worth It?
After reading all of this, you are probably asking yourself if all this effort is really worth it so that a bunch of mutts can run around for an hour everyday. The answer is "Of course!" Dogs need a lot of exercise and a dog park is the perfect place to let them roam free and find playmates. It's also a perfect place for you to relax, read a book and know that your dog isn't going anywhere. And, in case you need further convincing, a dog park is also a great place to meet new people and make new friends. So, go on out there and form a committee today. Your dog will thank you for it later!

Just something I grab from net. Hope its not for advertising purposes. Maybe this can help?

Lisa

I'm not sure that is the dog allowed in Genting Highland. But I used to bring my doggies there and enjoyed alot. I haven't met any trouble to bring my dog for a walk there and having a break in coffee bean.

I am staying in a predominantly Malay area in Taman Setia, Gombak. I bring Robin for walks everyday on a leash...they get use to it now as long as they know Robin is under control. To me, if they don't like it ...too bad, it's my time and my space, this is a free country ain't it?Mad

We rent an apartment there n my westie was going along wit us.at first we actually scared of any complaint. so i put her in a bag and as u said "seludup" into the apartment. she was sitll a puppy at that time n easy to hide. The first nite, i was not dare to bring her out. but the next day i bring her to the rabbit park, the stalion , n even Japanese Garden. Fortunately, no body was complain bout us. we even got a great welcome by the Japanese kids which were also having there vacation there. we also had fun into stalion.
Everything just great.
I think it shouldn't b big problem for our pets to go 4 a vacation. but have to make sure they wont disturb anybody else.
Try to have fun, n let us nkow ur experience. Tongue

Tongue Prior to reading/seeing this thread, my dad suggested that we take a trip up to Fraser Hill with our furkids.

Other than takut some 'special' people might be screaming/screeching their heads off when they see dogs, we're also worried that the furkids might not tahan the ride up.

My Chelsea puked when I took them to a waterfall near Kuala Kubu Baru... poor baby.

Wah....!! You can bring your furkid to the office ah? So nice! Must be very nice, having a companion that never talks behind your back with you during a hard day's work. (^_^)

Doggies : Will work for belly scratches and occasional treats.

As for Chelsea, I'm not sure. I guess it's motion sickness; the road is pretty 'curvy'. She never had problems during car rides, only during that time.

Re: [mackmack] highland vacation for pets [In reply to] Can't Post

reservations were made by a sporean friend from spore itself.

the truth is they never mentioned that dogs were coming (and the management never expected the spore civil servants to bring their dogs either as dogs would have to be quarantine before they can come into msia).

anyhow, we stayed at richmond bungalow for the first night (they have a shih tzu too by the name of max) and the 2nd at spore bungalow.

shalom was with me at all times...she roamed the garden. did her peepoo...under supervision and of course we cleaned up the garden each time after her poo. she slept with us in the room...and none of the caretakers complained.

they did mention that dogs were not allowed...but since we were there liao..and shalom was quiet (no barks), they played along with us.

AND shalom also went with us to bukit tinggi. walked her at colmar. brought her to the hotel lobby as well (mummy needed a pit stop). no one complained!

i reckon it was because it was not the peak season then...but we had attracted quite a crwod with her. some folks wanted to carry and pet her.

then we were also at genting highlands. borught her in to eat at the lake view restaurant. i heard it is halal...but the chinese waitress said nothing and escorted us to our table and even asked questions about shalom.

walked the theme park (indoor) with her in my arms. sat at starbucks (first world)...not insidelah. the kind staff said inside cannot as some customers might mind...no prob...she liked it ouseide anyway. ordered our drinks and shalom had her kibbles and water while we yumcha and talked nonsense.

she's been a good dog for travelling. either she is sleeping or chewing her winnie the pooh...never mind the fact that we were zipping the hills..(actually the trip up to the 3 highlands was meant for my husband and his friend to cream some hills). at first i was worried that she might be mabuk...but she turned out to be so good...I AM A PROUD MUMMY!!!!

she stayed the same during our drive back to kluang as well. so i reckon she is travelling doggie. Laugh. so next place would be penang.

you may want to consider giving either motion sickness medication?

shalom was in my arms or even on the floor during teh journeys...and we have also taken her familiar belongings along eg her winnie and her kain busuk(s). so maybe those helped at all times. even when we go for short drives in town...her winnie will always be taken along. some days she holds winnie in her mouth even when we are taking the lift down. i leave it to herlah...she seems to sayang winnie a lot...so if she opts to turn back and bring winnie along...i'll just let her do so. otherwise...it'll be daddy who'll be carrying winnie on her behalf.

Re: [lisachew] highland vacation for pets [In reply to] Can't Post

just open up for discussion ok..

i m just wonder, (even I would like to go for a drink with my dogs), sometimes i saw ppl bring their dogs (mostly breeded) go for the chinese food stalls. they will sit their dog on beside them (on the chair).

ok .. this is what they will do.. if the dog trying to jump off the chair or run around : they will shout : NO, STAY.

If the dog bark on ppl passby, then they will shout : NO, QUIET/ SHUT UP.

in this case.. what's the point we bring out the dogs? they are just suffer. i m sure they feel more happy if they can run free and left in the house.

on the other hand, i feel upset malaysia is a muslim country and most hotel they dont allow dogs/pet. anyway, we can't do anything about it, we need to respect others i think? imagine we curi curi bring in our dog, how are we going to enjoy our vacation? we have to hide them in the room, or hide together with them, if this is the case, we better bring them to kota kemuning park and can let them run free, swim deep .. think they will feel more happy. some more imagine we cant be so selfish and the room is not owe by us, after we check out, may be the next customer is a muslim, we shouldn't let them stay in a room that a dog stay before even they don't know about this? this is very rude and very irresponsible to others. correct me if i m wrong.

Hi, being in the hotel business myself, i may have the answer to why animals are not welcome in food outlets.

first of all, as you said because of the "special" people that we have to respect, it's a special country.

second and most important, HYGIENE. it is by the law forbidden to have an animal in a food and beverage outlet. the authorities (jabatan kesihatan)are allowed to close the place if they find that the degree of hygiene is not respected, including having pets in the outlet.

Hope that it will help people to understand and not blame the outlet nor the SPECIAL people for that.

Thank you

what pple think dogs are unhygenic? must be because dogs sniff butts (in greeting), sniff faeces (sometimes eat them), males spray their perfume on every vertical post, and the drooling doesn't help their image either.

Where else, cats clean themselves. What pple don't realized is that cats do carry ticks, fleas and mites too.

Re: [sun-arrow] highland vacation for pets [In reply to] Can't Post

That's why it's all animals including cats. The reason why stray cats are not removed from the premises is because they're very good at avoiding traps and can be quite costly to relocate and the management may not bother to cough up the money to remove them. So, they leave it to their staff or restaurant patrons to shoo them away.As a matter of fact, in my opinion, I think cats are more dangerous as they can transmit diseases to pregnant women that affects the amniotic sac surrounding the baby.

In the previous postings someone took their furkid to Bukit Tinggi. Actually they do not welcome pets but the horse stable are okay with dogs. There is a German Shepherd X there from SPCA named Kailie. Me and my husband built the little house for her as we felt sorry that she had to sleep on the cold cement floor all night. If you visit there, please bring a treat or two for her. She is very gentle and good with horses but beware if your furkids get too close to the horses because some are a bit nervous and may accidentally kick your furkids and the result may be disasterous. And when at the rabbit park there, do not bring your furkids. Rabbits can tranfer disease to dogs and the rabbits there are not that healthy.
