Hey! Fanny & George looks like a very 'matching' couple! I mean their spots are quite evenly spread, i wonder why Dal-Dal's spots are not so many.... and her size is quite tiny too compare to other Dals....

Here's Dal-Dal pix to share with you (=6.^=)

Cheers....

Re: [stellavslai] Dalmatian list.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi All

Just found out abt this forum abt Dalmations. I'm not a dog owner yet, but am looking for one currently for companionship as well as alerting us against suspicious strangers. I'm keen on both Labrador Retrievers & Dals as both breeds are intelligent & friendly. My only reservation for the Labs is that they may be overly ppl friendly.

I have a few questions abt Dals: 1) Is this breed easy to care for, ie maintenance, trainability? I'll be a first-time dog owner & this is definitely a plus point if they are. 2) Any pointers/useful advice in particular from existing Dal owners re Dals? 3) Where can I find a trustworthy Dal breeder in the Klang Valley? I'm not keen on getting one from the pet shop.

Many thanks!

Re: [bryank] Dalmatian list.... [In reply to] Can't Post

hi there:

if you really interested in keep dalmation, few thing you have to consider before you buy the dog.

1) do you have enough place for them for exercise? dal is a very hyper active dog, they are not suitable for keep in door, even in terrace house, you have to bring them out for walk everyday at least 30mins - 1 hrs, otherwise you have a trouble, they will be busy walking around at your carporch.

2) most of them are very friendly to human, but for other dog is difference story, is depend on the enviroment they grown up. my dal have problem to mix with other dog. they like to fight with other.

3) do you have kid at home? dal is so friendly to human, when puppy stage should be ok, but when adult, you have to careful them with your kids, they are very rash when playing with people, sometimes i also cant tahan them.

But if you really like dal, of cause dal is also very cute fella, they are easy to trained, and was a very good guard dog as well. they so hard working. i put my dal at my farm, they like to help me to catch TUPAI.Laugh

but some dal have a ear problem, they are easy to become deaf, you have to becareful of this. other than that, dal maintanance is not so hard, they are shot coats, and easy to maintain, but they lost fur a lot.

To choose a good dal as your pets, you can go to search and type dalmation, there are a lot of dal infomation for how to train, how to choose and what is their character. but for what i know, choosing dal the importing as below:

the standard dalmation is 19-24 inches tall, has a shot coat, and is well-muscled.His state of mind is also geared to long working days, for he craves activity and if denied, can become neurotic and destructive.

the dal should be black and white or liver and white spots distributed evenly over its body. Patches of colour and spots in other colour are not permitted in the show ring.Spots should be round and range from dime-size to half dollar size. they can overlap. dals are born white and with perhaps a patch colour on the ears.

Black spot dal must have a black nose and eyelids, liver spot must have liver nose and eyelids. eyes can be blue or brown. with black spotted dog having darker eyes than liver spotted dog.

for more information: www.thedca.org, www.dalsavers.com.

if you really interested to buy this dog, can email me, i can recommand you some breeder. the price is so cheap now. about RM400-800 with cert.

Re: [stellavslai] Dalmatian list.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Many thanks for your detailed advice. The websites you recommended are also abundant of useful info re Dals.

I live in a terrace house in KL. Like many other KLites, I spend most of my day in the office. However, my father is retired & he's an enthusiast of light exercise, taking a walk to & in the park almost on daily basis. Don't foresee a major issue in getting the dog to drain its energy everyday. I have no kids at home, so not a problem even if the dog is overly-affectionate with the people at home.

Having read a fair bit on Dals, my only concern now is the hearing problem among some Dals. I read that even Dal puppies can be born totally deaf, & the dog can be potentially very dangerous when it grows up. I know this is a genetic problem among Dals, but any advice on how to ensure that a Dal puppy has no hearing problem before purchasing it?

I will email you separately for more details on your recommended breeder. Till then, many thanks for your advice again.

Would have loved to give him to a dal lover but I am also happy with his new home. My potboy also not much spots but he is big and handsome.. Attached his pic here.. Yes it's very important to find a real dog lover and would be able to give the furkid a good home with great care and companion. Owners needs to spend time with their furkids, communicate with them and give them some simple obidience training, "educate" them like your own kids. Else, for me it's a kind of "living abusement" by only feeding them but leave them alone all-time...

My Dal-Dal passed away on the evening of 3rd Nov... me and my fiance were with her b4 she toke her last breath... she got poisoned by stranger when she spent her time at the car-pouch at night. But it was too late when we discover she was in serious condition... we missed to celebrate her 4yrs-old birthday on the 11th... Anyhow eventhough this is trully a sad thing to us but we learnt and promised not to let it happen again. We still have her only son with us - Murphy and we'll take more great care of him.

Murphy is a friendly and outgoing boy in 1+yrs-old. He's playful but in well behave and very appealing to camera!! Here are a few pics to share...

Hi... glad to hear you're planning to have a dal as your first furkid. Dals are very friendly breed with pretty well-behave attitude. From my experience, of cos they'll be very playful during their grow-up stage but when they reach about 2-3yrs old, you'll found them being more stablelize and likes to hear your saying and very alert to do's & don'ts which you commanded / warned.

Giv them some basic obedience training is important as this is how to keep them behave and understands each other. Have fun!

Yes, glad to have Hugo (my male Dal). Bought him in 2005 & he's now 2.5 yrs old. He was quite destructive during his puppy years (plants, lawn, & even cars) but he is now a very disciplined dog. He won praises from neighbours (even passerby's) for his smart intelligent look. However, he lacks socialising skills with other dogs - either super excited or panicky when he sees other dogs. If you ever invite him to play, he's gentleness will disappear right away. What you get is a crazy rough dog! Otherwise, he is usually very calm. Wanted to get him a companion to overcome his loneliness but the thought of going through another phase of puppy years again is quite scary. Attached is a photo of him.
