Yes..i do believe that too Smile The latest dog I'm training loves to please and is smart (duh..all dogs are Smile). Didn't hv any formal training and no treats whatsoever..just praise..was really surprised with that coz all my dogs so far..expect treats (partly due to my training lar of course..realized that mistake). But to teach him to do that..that's really cute Smile how'd he do that?

now working on teaching the dogs "hold"

Sparkle can shake both paws, high 5, sit, down, heel, stay, leaves treats/food along when I put it in front of him and say "Leave It" and take it only when I say "Take it" or when I snap my fingers, fetch, looks for his toy when I ask "Where's your toy", jump, understands up stairs & downstairs.....

They surely have amind of their own. Sometimes he's good, sometimes, they pretend to be deaf!!Smile Unless there is any snacks involved...

Hmm... actually I think it's still possible to ask them to do tricks without offering treats.

Sometimes Mocha does tricks when I ask her to, even when without treats ! Maybe it's because she's in a good mood and without much distraction. Smile Practice ! Practice ! Practice !

Re: [mochacappucino] How many tricks does your dog know?! [In reply to] Can't Post

hello

it is actually possible asking the dogs to do without tricks :)

if your dog has already know all the commands, slowly reduce the treats given (sometimes give, sometimes don't) and later u do it with praise only, but without treats.

soon ur dog will do everything u want without treats! oh, sometimes mood is also a factor. make sure ur dog is in an upbeat mood :)

and yes, practice makes perfect.

ps : are u a star trek fan? LIVE LONG and PROSPER. lol.

hunter

Re: [mochacappucino] How many tricks does your dog know?! [In reply to] Can't Post

heheeh didn't actually "train" him to understand

U see, when my dad's not home, I'll sneak him into my room or the family hall upstairs. So I'll just snap my fingers at him and whisper "Upstairs". He'll immediately get up and quietly climb the stairs. when he reaches the top, he'll survey first. If no one there, he'll make a fast dash to my room and will keep quiet in there. ahahah like he knows it's forbidden!! Tongue

Once I open my door and say downstairs he'll run down the stairs immediately. But he'll also look see look see first....if no one then he makes the dash.

Funny fella la...I think he knows it's an adventure. ahahah

Hmm.... I sometimes pretend throwing "something" and Mocha still goes and look for "it"... Tongue Well, I guess you just need practice. Or probably some dogs enjoy catch more than others. Smile I know Mocha enjoys it. She will usually go look for hte ball and tuck her nose to ask me play ball.

Re: [nancy] How many tricks does your dog know?! [In reply to] Can't Post

For me...Tyson was a barker. Barks non-stop when he's happy. So whenever he braked. I said "speak". and gv a treat. Everytime he's excited, he would bark and I would say speak, then gv a treat.

He soon realized that barking whenever i said speak would mean he'd get a treat. So voila~ Wink

How bout kiss? Dogs naturally lick their owners mouth most of the time. So that's an easy one.

How bout "Stop" or "Let go"...very useful =)
