Hi Serene,

Since you're experience in this GSD field, I would like to ask a question? Any food to feed GSD to make their ears stand. MY GSD already 5 months plus and the ears still not standing yet. Any ideas?

Dear Khoo,

I dun think there's any food tat can make the ear stand coz, their ears will stand naturally..Wink but tis is just my opinion, maybe its not true lahh.. i could't help u on tis coz, when i got my gal on 3.5 months, her ears is aldy standing.. anyway, i do read a book b4 tat said their ears will only stand when they r 6 months old. hmm.. maybe others GSD experts here could help u out on tis issue..

 Normally food doesn't help on cropped or hanging ears, the vet will always recommend vitamin C if u wanted to try but might cause diarrhea. Most of the (GSD sifu) are using the tape to hold it at erect position which will increase the ears blood circulation .For a 6 months GSD ,it could be teething that affect many areas of her daily life,from the shape of muzzle and head,to how she eats and the ears proportion.

Standing ear or not is all about genetics....calcium pil simply put ur belove pup at risk of ED/HD.



If u love your pup STOP the calcium now....hope it is not too late.

Feeding calcium will cause this ED/HD. How will this happen? I have a few firends having GSD. Their advise is for 1st year feed lots of protein & calcium. Hope you can clarify.

a quick and brief of what u asked...

too much calcium & protein will promote the growing rate of the large breed puppies and will result the intensity or firmness of the bone development.

More over this will affect the structural or skeleton of the puppy over all. Also it can strip away nutrients and cause the cartalige to actually get weeker if overused. Sometimes kidney stones in older dogs.

If you feed a good natural diet here's a little info.

Eggshells and Bone matter is about 30%-40% calcium. Salmon is a great choice too for calcium and omega fatty acids.

I just feed raw and add one human Multivitamin and one human Glucosamine/chondroitin

Boon,

Thanks for the info. Newbie like me must learn from you guys. Anyway, am I to feed egg shells/bone matter to my GSD to replace the calcium tablets. Really getting different info from different people. Eg : My vet ask me not to feed raw eggs as they might contain virus. Other GSD owners tell me different story...??? confuselah man...One ask me not to feed any bones matter. another ask me to feed chicken neck. another tell me chicken neck a lot of chemicals.

go read up some info and do some research before u follow blindly....don ask around and get urself confused.

It's been interesting to follow these threads... Hi All...

Thanks for the warm welcome... Yes, I'm a Malay girl with a GSD. Always loved dogs since young, especially GSDs because my father had kept one when I was much younger. I've been looking at the training forums, but there isn't much that I could apply to my GSD, as she's incredibly smart and she learns the basics of obedience in a matter of days, so I was wondering where else I could go for training and game ideas for my Stella??

there's a few good books around that can help you. I bought a book from MPH recently. can remember the title. something like ACB of Dog Training. Very useful as it teaches you the correct way to teach the dog to sit,stay, down,paw,etc. Look around. GSD are generally smart dogs so teaching him is quite easy...
