Int'l Homeless Animal Day on Aug 30 Can't Post

Hi all,

August 30th is the International Homeless Animal Day to increase public awareness of the millions of dogs and cats killed in shelters each year due to lack of homes and to emphasize the importance of neutering/spaying. It is also a day to remember all these animals that were put to sleep due to overpopulation, and a day of hope that now is the time to make some positive changes for unwanted animals.

Anyone who wishes to join in this International Homeless Animal Day Candlelight Vigil can buy a vigil candle for RM1 at SPCA Selangor in Ampang.
There will also be a candlelight vigil on the same day (please see below for more info.)

Could you please spare some of your time and heart for all these creatures who should deserve and unfortunately, should have deserved, more?

Thank you

International Homeless Animal Day Candlelight Vigil

Date: August 30, 2003
Venue: Rahsia Bistro No.13 Jalan Damai, KL
Ticket: RM 15

Please call SPCA at 03-4253 5179/016-688 1514

Hi,

the candlelight vigil starts at 5:30 pm on August 30, but you have to buy tickets beforehand at SPCA.
I looked up the map and this Jalan Damai is a loooong street. I will go to SPCA pretty soon and get tickets & hopefully get a map to the place.

Hi,

Since it's going to be held at a restaurant (I think), I doubt that we can bring our own doggies.....
But I am going to SPCA on Wednesday to buy tickets and candles, so I'll ask them and find out.

Just a reminder, you have to buy tickets first at SPCA and not at the venue apparently.

I meant that the event is held in memory of the dogs AND cats that were put to sleep, and what I heard from SPCA is that I cannot bring dogs to the venue because there may be people who do not like dogs... and I don't think you can bring cats along either....
Still, it's best to check with SPCA at 4253-5179.

Did anyone go? I was there but have no idea how to look for u guys! Crazy anyway, the speech caused tears in my eyes. especially the part about the story of a dog, on how he was adopted, then back in SPCA, and lastly was put to sleep. it is sad to know that millions of dogs in the world suffer the same fate every year. Frown i have not read the story myself, but would look for it when i am in SPCA tomorrow.

Hi Paulynn,

u wouldn't believe how many such cases have happened before. my newly adopted dog, Sookie, was also adopted AND sent back to SPCA by her previous owner coz the dog has a bladder stone! luckily Sookie found me and she would go for an operation next week to remove the stone. Angelic

aih, what to do? some people adopt or buy dogs just for the sake of having a dog. when there are problems, they don't want 'ma fan'. so give the dog away lor. and next thing u know they r looking for another dog! to them it's as easy as that. but they never think about the dog's feeling! aih... Hi

We were there, but also didn't know how to look for anyone. (We were the "lonely" couple sitting at the back of the restaurant.)
It was so depressing to see all these candles as each one of them represented the poor creatures who had deserved a lot more. Well, the only thing we can do now is to remember them and to help stop any more dog or cat from following the same fate.

By the way, we have this jinx in which every time my hubby visits SPCA, we end up adoping a doggie and guess what, we went there on Friday and adoped another doggie, "Utama" the rottie. He even got a new name for him, which is "Faust".
We are going to see him this afternoon and hopefully see someone from this forum out there...

You know those ppl who did it should experience the life of an adopted dog who got adopted AND send back to dog pound. We should have a program to let them know and feel how dogs' feel too. These people are plain dumb. You know why?Dogs are just like human being, they are living things which means they too go thru the cycle of life so if their dogs fall sick or have cancer is pretty common...Just that their head is too empty i guess. If having a sick dog is so troublesome, what about living with a human being who has the same sickness like the dog(eg bladder stone)..Worse if it's their parents who are having it.They might just put their parents in old folks home...

You know, that's why i always write this down in my bachelor's list : ONLY CHOOSE GUYS WHO ARE DOG LOVERS LoL LaughLaughLaughAngelic

Well, many people actually FAIL to realise that dogs (or any animals for that matter) are living beings with feelings and needs too! it's a sad sad fact! and yes, i believe these are the same people who would send their parents to old folks home... Mad

u know, today in SPCA, a lady brought in her two dogs to leave them there. i forgot what reason she gave. but anyway, both her dogs are so skinny, u can see their ribs! when asked if the dogs are not eating, the owner said that they are very well fed! my *ss!!! Mad so in the evening when we were feeding all the dogs, guess what happened? both the dogs were eating like they've never eaten before! like there's no tomorrow! they could eat ur hands! they were so hungry that we had to feed them 3 bowls of rice! and they are only medium size dogs! it's so pitiful seeing them like that! and i can say they are better off without the owner! MadMadMad

oh... the bachelor list... haha... i will remember that... dog lovers only! got it! Laugh

Hi,

Utama has yet to gor for an operation, which they told us would take place sometime this week, so we should be able to take him home in the middle of this month. We were told that he may be a bit fussy with small dogs, so we'll have to watch him carefuly for the first few days as we have 2 little dogs.
He will bring our dog count to 7!!! Since we got our no.3 dog, we've been saying "this will be the last dog..."CrazyCrazyCrazy
Wish us luck, hahaha...

We have been pretty lucky so far... we live in a bungalow at the end of a dead-end street, so we've only have 3 immediate neighbors. Plus one is an emplty house, our next door also has a dog and over the fense on the other side is somekind of a squatter area where I hear dozens of dogs.
In fact, the entire neighborhood has got dogs (some houses have 4 or 5) and the only house without a doggie that I know of among, say, 20-30 houses in the area is the one in front of our house. (even the kindergarten at the end of the road has got a doggie!)

Our dogs would of course back whenever people or dogs come to our front gate, but we trained them to go back to the kitchen when so told. (credit to my hubby) And since our next door doggie is quite old, our dogs work as their watchdogs and as "doorbells" because the next door doesn't have a doorbellTongue
In fact, they come out and check when our dogs back, and they are quite impressed that our dogs caught an intruder in our premises a while ago.

Now that we'ge got a rottie coming soon, we will have to once again train him real good and try not to cuase any inconvenience to the neighbors. I guess that's the only way to keep DBKL away.
Hope things will be settled in a good way with your neighbor aunty's dogs....

you are sooo luckyCool BTW, did you n hubby visit Utama today?? I was in SPCA with my girl and I saw this couple with Reve taking out a rottie. He is a handsome one but I am somehow wary of big dogs. Was chased by a GSD when I was young. Was with my brother in a neighhour's place and they have this huge one which is kept in the backyard. It somehow managed to get into the house, and I ran towards the main gate leaving my younger bro behind. Smile Even shut the gate behind me!! And there my brother was screaming blue murder! Nothing happened, of course but yours' truly kena canning from my dad. That was a bad bad experience for me and it took me a long long time to overcome my fear of dogs. Sly

yep, that was us... if you saw a couple of long-haired guy and short-haired woman... too bad we didn't meet up face to face. We wanted to see Utama and also brought 100kg of rice which we got (for 50 bucks only!) from a friend who works at a wholesale market.
My friend, who also adopted 2 doggies from SPCA, always buys a couple of bags of rice whenever there's a good deal and takes them to SPCA. We can't keep adopting doggies forever unfortunately, but at least we try to do a little here and there to make sure these doggies do go hungry there...

I was also chased by a dog when I was a kid. My monster was just a shetland sheepdog, but I still remember running through the trees like crazy thining that I was gonna die while my friend (the owner) kept telling me to stop so that the dog would also stop.
Strange, 20 years later, I'm the mother of 7 doggies (and the grandma of 13 rabbits). Wink

Hah??Heh i consider very *outdated* (if u compare me to heavy clubbers) cos some even at the tender age of 14 starts clubbing. When i was 14 i still mong cha cha.lol. Yeah money doesn't come easy for me too cos i'm using parents' so i know my limits and yes keeping the money for our lovely furkids are way better than visiting the clubs every fri & sat like my other friends!!

Imagine normal C.Charge is Rm30,one month they spend approx RM300...enough to feed some dogs at SPCA...sigh.

wai sek kow no use cos eats halfway and leaves the other for ants to attack.Food ah tolong..costs money as well!!Then when i'm eating human food he comes sitting infront and drooling..Very greedy.Dog food makan halfway but see human food he'll look at me as if i've never fed him!

maybe he has digestion problems or he doesn't like what u're giving him?Check with a doctor already? What about his pee poo?

Nola !! my dog despise insects especially flys!!Can u believe that he'll snap at them when they're flying around his place??He doesn't really like ants either...My furkid is at home..probably in the living hall.3/4 of his day are spent inside the house cos weather too hot.ican't stand seeing him outside. He's only outside at night while everyone's sleeping. My latest furkid which will be arriving tomorrow will stay indoor atm since she's still a young pup SlySly

Hopefully wai sek kau won't get jealous.Blush

its ok..at first she just not familiar with the new environment..in fact as a new owner of puppy..I suggest you to ask the owner ..where does she sleep usually? by her mother side?? if yes..get something (cloth, toy etc) with her mother smell and put it to her "bed"..at least to make her feel comfortable...after all she still very small rite?..young pup just like a baby..need time and lots of effort..enjoy ya..

Frown SIgh you're right.Need lots and lots of attention and caring..just like to a human baby that sort of attention. Not easy job being an owner to a very young pup. Finally know how tough it is.Didn't know much cos when i adopted my first furkid he was already 1 year old and there was nothing much to do.if u get what i mean.Even now before she sleeps i try to coax her and rub her tummy..(she loves it so much) and play with her in the evenings...I don't know bout her mom or history cos the lady who gave me the dog found her in Equine park being mistreated by some stupid Ms i guess (M as in the...you know la )Pirate

not too worry about the cost of keeping the giant..the owner only give him one meal a day.. and he eat ricemixed with vege and eggs..(frankly speaking I'm very surprise to hear that from him)..anyway the oter owner only give his SB two cup full of doggie biscuit twice a day..so its not too costlyWinkWink

Heh atm 2 is more than enough to handle. Not easy handling a mad puppy Josie and a quiet male dog.Create havoc esp when both are influence by each other's habit and such.Josie learnt how to make a huge mess on my dad's garden.Nash did the same thing before too.hopefully he won't teach her on how to bite our sandals Tongue
