Hello, any good advise how should I help my Gordon (6months old GR)....he has been scratching and biting his skin all over his body since I bought him

early April , I am so sad seeing him non stop scratching /biting, he is like very suffering ler....first, I thought every puppy might have minor skin problem, he took Eukanuba as the pet shop asked me to fed this brand. because of the itchiness, I brought Gordon to vet, vet gave some medicine to cure itchy,and recommended to change to science diet (lamb n rice)...then the situation got better for a while, lately he started scratching/biting his body very seriously again, and I bought him to vet again, then the dr gave medicine again and some shampoo.....but the situation still same. Then , I started to switch to other brand dog food (Blackwood -5000, no wheat no corn etc)....his skin condition doesn't improve....what happen? How should I do, sometime i really pity him, he must be very itchy.....his loses hairs around his tummy and the skin color became darker and rough, then around his sholder, there's serious red spot....

There's definitely no flea and ticks ....

Your Gordon has very similiar problem as my Rossi.. till now he is biting and scratching .. until his skin turn red and after awhile turn to black spot.. been to vet 3 times.. took 3 different medication still no cure.. and changed his food too.. also no cure.. even give him Primrose oil for skin n fur.. also no cure.. hmm.. now am scratching my head now..

DO let me know if you have any cure for Gordon... thanks ya!

Try bath your dog using cold water (direct from pipe) when you have their weekly bathing.

It will help reduce your dog icthing. You see the different after few weeks.

Hi Chris.. need advice again.. am actually bath my Rossi using cold water from pipe .. nothing improve.. even after shampoo.. or sometimes tried with only plain water.. he still smell.. now worst.. cause i think because of his skin..

Rossi won't let me blow dry him.. even towel dry him.. after awhile.. he will smell.. mayb because he go bite n lick again and leave his saliva that smell? How to cure this?..

Most probably because you didn't blow dry your dog

Maybe you can try blow dry your dog and see how the result.

Don't think bite & licking will cause your dog smell. My dogs do bite & lick but didn't experience skin problem.

Same thing happened to my dog also Yippy. A golden retriever,.. she has been having this skin problem for 2 years! from reddish to black spots... and now comes again. I'd been ssending her to the vet for countless times and 4 different doctors when result couldn't be cured. The medication given can prevent the itchiness for a while only and when the course completed, the reddish starts again. I'm broke sending her to see doctor many times! She been using Masalab for bathing, and currently eating the Eukanuba (white packet) for skin which cost RM58 for a packet.

Is there any effective dog food recommendation for skin?

Now i just bought Petroleum jelly (as i read one of the forums) hope to stop the reddish from spreading. Sigh!!!Unsure

If I not mistaken your dog currently consuming the Eukanuba Response Formula FP. Is good for dog with hypersensitive skin

Or you can try out California Natural Adult, simple formula and its work for most food allergy dogs

Note: Always allow a min period 3months to see the effectiveness of the dog food your dog response to it. Continue using the medicated shampoo - One week once. After finish using Malased try ask your vet for this medicated shampoo call "Sebazole-from Virbac".

Hi, Kien...I remembered u mentioned Rossi tried Canidae before? Does it help...I've been sendingGordon to vet many times, itchyness pill doesn't help....I bath Gordon once a week, using pipe water too, no cure...in fact, I noticed that he will scratch more after bath, after bath I will sun bath him for a while, then blow dry him...no use oso, I used Malaseb too, and I've tried dermocil (medicated shampoo) given by vet....same la....so, I thought may be his skin is too dry causing itchy, so I tried conditioning after shampoo...but he still scratching again,,...I just bathed him yesterday,....today I saw a big red spot again under his neck and armpit....oh....I really really scratching my head....sometimes u comb him nice nice, then he start licking and biting again...hairs start dropping, skin turned black dry color...aiyoh....susah la....I bought one small packet Canidae to him yesterday....but he doesn't want to eat the Canidae ler...he eat a little bit then vomit....this is first time i see him vomit after taking dog food...ur rossi has this problem??

Chris....banyak banyak method sudah try...still no help..is this something to do with Gene?? I think tonight onward, I m going to try cooking oil la....all my mix breed dogs (last time) like cooking oil....and their coat really nice after taking cooking oil....so this time I don't care so much la...treat GORDON as "pa lia dog"....may be it will be better....hehe...:P

Hi Cheekai.. hmm.. guess both of us is scratching our head till bald already .. hahahaa...

Nope.. Rossi skin doesn't improve when he took Canidae Chicken n Rice.. i thought it will improve for him cause for the first 2 weeks.. his skin turn to be ok... then later.. still the same.. And then i changed it to Canidae Lamb n Rice.. worst.. Rossi dun like it either.. he dun eat it.. then i mixed it with something.. he took it but later he got diarhoea... so i stop giving him... now i changed it to Nutro L&R.. mayb later shall change it to California Nat Herring
& potato if his skin persist unchanged... oh.. am having a discussion on Rossi skin too in different post.. go to natural herb remedy for canines http://www.puppy.com.my/...;;page=unread#unread

Hi, Kien...exactly...I m feeding Gordon with Canidae Lamb and rice....comparing to other lamb & rice..canidae seems tasteless la , I guess....coz when we opened the packet, it doesn't have strong smell like science diet or whatsoever...tonight I feed him again with Canidae, he doesn't want to...then I added cooking oil...he finished it..but can see he is forcing himself to take it lor...coz he like makan makan then go away...then come back again and continue.....he then slowly finished all...hehe...such a good boy....but now he pengsan again (i m not too sure he is too tire or the dog food make him not comfortable)...lets see if he diarhoea later...:P

Yes, I fed Gordon treats, chris....vet did asked me to stop the treats and try to rule out this possibility...but somehow, without treats, it difficult to train this little boy...so I was thinking to rule out dog food first..hehe...

My Rossi now the skin is turning to dark colour.. and i guess is healing now.. just hope that those red spot won't come back again...

Hi, kien...gordon now seems not so itchy...but his private part still got red spot lor...I m feeding him egle pack now (but i m feeding adult dog food) because the pet shop owner said, adult less protein than puppy food, so may help on skin problem...i oso dun know whether true or not la...i scare less protein will cause malnutrition and affect his growing...u know la...he six month baru 17kg...ur rossi 5.5month oledi 20 kgwoh....

I oso reduce treat lor...u really tried the chinese medication for ur rossi...n his skin turning better??? if yes...do share with me ur recepi lor...

Hi,

I was reading through the thread and I realised that your dog could be suffering from a food allergy. These problems are getting more common among dogs these days for a number of reasons. Namely the quality of pet food that are in the market. I'm sorry to have to be frank and to burst your bubble. I personally would not feed my dog Eukanuba because of the quality of the protein that is found in the food. On top of that, Eukanuba Response Formula contains a preservative called Etoxoquin. Which is a highly poisonous substance when given in higher dosage. Common sense would tell you how could feeding your dog a classified poison be safe for your dog even at low doses? On top of that, your dog could be suffering from a meat intolerance. If that were the case, then he or she should be on an exclusion diet free of all forms of meat protein until he recovers. A good holistic inclined vet would be able to advise you on a proper, long termed and effective way to treat your condition.

Also, I would'nt use any of the shampoos that were recommended. Anything that has the word "seb" in it usually means it has a drying agent. Remember, that your dog's skin is way more sensitive than a human's. If you have been to a country with dry weather, you will notice that the first sensation you get on your skin is itchyness. Now back to your dog and please apply common sense here, If your dog's skin is already itchy, won't a drying agent make it worst? In fact, you should be using an extra mild, moisturizing shampoo and some form of a lotion that contains healing properties such as aloe vera to treat his itchiness.

Food allergies are a much more serious problem than you think they are and they could plague your dog for the rest of its life. Be very careful what you feed. Be aware of what is on the labels and what they actually mean. Some foods can actually kill. Why don't you log on to this website and find out for yourself www.iamskills.com

Sorry if I've offended anyone. Just trying to do what is the best for your dog. Do your own research. Usually, its the best advise. What ever people tell you are just opinions. Even doctors. Their diagnosis is based on opinions. In the end, it is the truth and your opinion that matters.

hm...hi there..i need some advise too...my JRT also have been scratching and licking his body and sometimes ears all the while..i have been cleaning his ear anyhow...do not knw why he still keep scratching ..sometimes biting his tail as well..i check..no fleas no thicks...all clean....

he is taking blackwood for his puppy food..he is only 3 months plus and sometimes i do feed him nutri stats and glucosine...thats all i feed him...

i might turn to bill jack or back to basic after finish blackwood..any advise on his skin and the food i feeding him now..thanks

Hi there, I think is not only my clifford suffering from food allergies and cause skin problem. Cifford suffer from skin problem since he was 8th months old and now he is 1 year 2 months. I been changing to so many type of food. from Nutro Lamb & Rice for puppy to Evovle and now I'm feeding him Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb & Rice. His skin doesn't improve, and same condition like yours his skin turn black and the hair doesn't grow back. Everytime I bring him to vet and after few medication the same problem come back again. I'm using malaseb shampoo also, before that I'm using oatmeal shampoo for more conditioning but it doesn't help as well. I also fed him the Novacote Plus for about 1 month but does not show improvement.

Now he started scratching and bite and loosing alot fur, i really dont know what i can do to help him to get back his healthy and shiny coat. Do you think I should change Vet? or should i fed him the real meat or fish or chicken? Do deworm will cause the problem? I think he did not deworm since Jan till now.

Please..help if anyone can help of food allergies.......

hey..got one solutions..maybe he is teething as he only 3 months plus..

but i will go pet shop buy socks...so that he wont bite his own leg till got biting mark and red spot...hehe...meanswhle i check n o kutu also...hm..

but i do clean his cage every week with dettol..change his comforter every 3 days...hm...wipe his leg after he come back from outside jogging...ialso duno how come he is like tat..dun always see vet cuz vet always give antibiotic...some things can be solve without antibiotic...right?..else his immune system spoil since small..not good..haha..shit..sound like i am the vet jor..

Is the skin smelly or feels oily???? How are the ears??? Smelly and oily as well???? could be malassezia which is usually secondary to a primary skin allergy. skin allergy is not easy to treat. it requires a lot of discipline from the owner. Then... and only then will you see improvements.

Currently what food and shampoo u using??? Any treats being given???

I usually tell all my skin patients to be on only fish based diets or hydrolysed protein diet.Wink seems to help reduce the itch quite a bit.

currently i feeding him blackwood mix with bill jack puppy food cuz i intend to swith to bill jack when the blackwood finish...

well...its good to hear that yer dog is not itchin so much. what's the name of the shampoo???

hmmm.... no comments on the food.... though...like i said previously.... u want to put yer doggie on fish based or hydrolysed protein diets... that is if it is food hypersensitivity.

also...u wanna avoid beef, milk and wheat from the diets.... things like bread, cake, human biscuits and certain animal treats that may contain the offending irritant.

Shit its getting worse the back leg suddenly red spot and rash like injured and got some brown things duno wat..this few days I did bring him out for walk..hm…tonite gonna rush him to vet…gonna change to a new vet at taman megah…yeoh vet duno is good or not…..

I am not an expert but maybe I can share my experience. I have a Chi and when I bought her, she has simply a beautiful fur. After being with me for 2 weeks, I gave her Jerhigh bacon treats. That was the biggest mistake - she was allergic to it and she begin to shed fur and she itch so much that she was red and like a shaved monkey. I begin to trouble shoot and only to find out the treats was the cause. Immediately stopped and used a yellow medicine to apply on the skin and fur. It is called Sulf...... something. It is oily when you apply but when it dry, it is ok. Smells a little pungent but very effective. Most pets shop sells it and it costs about RM23.00 per bottle. My Chi is now growing its fur again and its looking nice. Also mixed Megacoat fish oil supplement to her kibbles to enhance healthy fur growth.

Nett nett - check your treat if you're giving your furkid. or else, check the food you are giving. Maybe your furkid may not be suitable with the kibble you're giving. It could be your main factor. Get a vet to check but honestly, Yeoh is not a very good vet. been there and the young chap don't really seem to know what he's doing. the lady vet is worst. she can leave a 2 month old pup on the examination table and walk away not fearing that the pup may jump down and break their leg. very negligent. that deter me from going back. And price is not cheap. Just to see doctor and get 1 kind of medicine cost me RM85.00. And the medicine was Eukanuba energy drink which i can easily buy from petshop for less than RM20. Be careful lah.

I have no choice I woking in kl by the time I reach pj is 7 30 plus most of the vet in pj close at 7 pm I had try to call up some.I am living in pj. Let it be the first time and see how it goes..wil update u..if the things that you mention she giving me..maybe I can get in pet shops opposite…thanks mate for your advise…

hm..well...i see the vet already in taman megah..i think it is quite expensive but he gave advise..better than the wan in DJ..only think is food allegy but he is not..my junior he has a worm call 'mike'. the vet in taman megah take his blood and do scanning for me.....meanwhile the vet in DJ only clear his stomach and give antibiotic......it takes two weeks to claer..haha..he cant go to BU central park..i build up his body first...his antivirus body..

i think he mix with one big black lab dog..my neigbour dog.....that might be one of the reasons he kena....aiks....

dowk... can you specific give me the name of that yellow medicine ar? i really need it for my mom toy pooddle. but is it ok if the dog to lick? most of the skin are already dried but still some spots that she keep biting and pulling the hair off. Crazy

Sorry for late reply. I jsut checked and it is Sulfodene. Good for the skin though oily at first but once dried, it's ok. I put it for about 10 days and my CHi is growing its fur again. Very nice. I also put in Mega-coat into her meals. Very fishy smell but good for her.

thanks for the info i found it at ikea pets worlds. i have read the label and call up my vet. she said my poodle cannot use it coz due to her skin is a yeas and fungus infection. the sulfodene is too hursh for her. any way thanks for your info.

oh i also gave her omega-coat which is good.

My toy poodle also got this issue .. some time the skin will turn red sometime become normal skin color. when turn red my dog will itchy.



Now try on

1) medic shampoo for once a week

2) groom it everyday for better air flow in side for the better skin condition

3) reduce can food

4) giving supplement of omega 3 & 6 for skin develop



Well will update ur during the progress
